***For Brian*** - 2/29/2008 9:35 AM ( #1 )
I started the group BRIAN today.

His funeral is being held as i type this.
I suffer anxiety disorders and can not attend, i found we have no candles in the house and it distressed me somewhat.

I googled and found this wonderful place. Please join our family and light a candle for Brian, and for each person in the world to day who can not attend the last farewell for a friend and loved one.

Johanna.

Johanna

Welcome to the forum. I hope you can find some peace and comfort here. I have a favorite poem that I like to live with in the midst of loss.

Prayer for Autumn Days

God of the seasons, there is a time for everything; there is a time for dying and a time for rising. We need courage to enter into the transformation process.

God of autumn, the trees are saying goodbye to their green, letting go of what has been. We, too, have our moments of surrender, with all their insecurity and risk. Help us to let go when we need to do so.

God of fallen leaves lying in colored patterns on the ground, our lives have their own patterns. As we see the patterns of our own growth, may we learn from them.

God of misty days and harvest moon nights, there is always the dimension of mystery and wonder in our lives. We always need to recognize your power-filled presence. May we gain strength from this.

God of harvest wagons and fields of ripened grain, many gifts of growth lie within the season of our surrender. We must wait for harvest in faith and hope. Grant us patience when we do not see the blessings.

God of geese going south for another season, your wisdom enables us to know what needs to be left behind and what needs to be carried into the future. We yearn for insight and vision.

God of flowers touched with frost and windows wearing white designs, may your love keep our hearts from growing cold in the empty seasons.

God of life, you believe in us, you enrich us, you entrust us with the freedom to choose life. For all this, we are grateful.

We have to dare to be ourselves, however frightening or strange that Self may prove to be.

Dear Johannna, I, too, welcome you to this forum! I am so very sorry for your loss. I gladly light a candle for Brian.

I experienced once what it feels like not being able to attend a funeral. When I was a teenager my best friend died of an infection and we were instructed at school not to attend the funeral for fear of infection (which was really unfounded!). I sent my mother but I felt very badly about it.

You know that Brian would understand you absence. I don't know your beliefs, but I think he is very close to you. Alchemist has cited for you a beautiful prayer. I hope it gives you some comfort.

Praying for peace and comfort for you,

Much love,
Edda

Peace and joy!

I'm so sorry. I know how you feel. I have problems attending
funerals too. I get nervous when going up to view the corpse. I always have to ask someone to go up to the
casket with me. Two times I've been to a closed clasket
funeral. And those didn't bother me at all. It's the opened
casket ones that do. I will light a candle for Brian.
