Life is Stranger than Fiction - 7/8/2008 8:05 AM ( #1 )
It's ten years ago. Laurie, a forty-two year old mother of two was killed in a head-on collision with a pick up truck after spending three hours in a local pub and driving home on the wrong side of highway 96C.  Her funeral was held in a church on the main thoroughfare in the small town of Sicamous in the Interior of British Columbia. I shall never forget the look on the pastor's face as a member of the immediate family strode up the aisle to the front of the church, cranked up the sound on a CD Player and made the unscheduled announcement that we would be listening to Laurie's favourite song. And, I often wonder what folks imagined as they passed by the church that day hearing the haunting strains of "Oh Lord won't you buy me a Mer-cedes Benz !! "

Richard, I am reminded of a time recently when I sent a 'catch-up-on my-news' email to a friend I haven't seen for a while. Her reply that the stories in my email beat all the soaps on T.V. made me laugh out loud.

Who needs soaps?
