Dear Deanna . . . Thank you for coming back and letting us know how things are going. I can add nothing wiser than Edda, Jude and Joya's helpful advice. I can only chime in and agree that a nursing home should probably be a last, last option. I worked in nursing homes for many years and all four of them, in three different parts of the country were mind-numbing life-denying places. I finally had to stop doing it because it was painful not to be able to adequately fill the needs of residents, due to both staffing issues and the unspoken philosophies of the the people who ran them. Your family seems very willing and eager to help, which is of great advantage, as many families are not like this. Amazing things can happen through good, loving therapy. As a sidebar, I don't know if you have heard of Jill Bolte Taylor, a woman who had a massive stroke, and not only survived and recovered, but became a much better person. She has written a book published this year called My Stroke of Insight. There is also a wonderful, inspiring talk given by her on the TED website. Here is the url if you are interested . . . www.ted.com/index.php/speakers/jill_bolte_taylor.html I will keep a candle burning for you, your father, and your family, praying for strength and courage . . . with much love . . . sparrow

Hi Deanna, I am glad that your dad is doing so well and I am sorry that you are having to deal with others'rigidity and inflexibility about what the future care of your dad. Praying that Love and common sense prevails and that as a family, you will be able to care for your dad the way that he and you wish and that he continues to improve. Namaste Glenys x

Dear deanna I am sorry to her about your dads stroke but I am pleased to hear that he is improving. I have to agree about nursing homes been the last resort. I have worked in two nursing homes and I could write a book about the lack of care that goes on in those places too few staff and staff that just didn't care about the residents. I'm probably biased as I had a very bad experience at one nursing home I worked at which is too horrific to put down on here. Basically a woman died who should not have died if the home had been kept up to standard and had more staff. I witnessed a sight that will affect me for the rest of my life even writing it here is bringing tears to my eyes of how bad it really was. I have to say that there must be nursing home where the owners and staff care about there residents but sadly I didn't find it in the two I worked at. love sharon
