Dear Sparrow and Barbara, I too have strong memories of Simon & Garfunkle's 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' when it first came out. I was having a holiday near here with my cousins after having a sort of break-down..I think it was belated grief from my Father leaving home and all the various traumas associated with him. I was 18. The memories are of being totally cossetted, strawberries every day from the garden and time spent painting the fabulous view. The dear people who looked after me so lovingly are both gone now, and very much missed, as are the holidays spent with them. It was on that holiday that I just had to buy the album which had that song on it. Jude

Jude, Dear,Now I really do feel like the ancient one if you were only 18 in 1970. Lord have mercy. No wonder my bones creak so much!!! Bridge over Troubled Waters has long been a favorite of mine. There were so many times back then that God was the very last person I would have considered my bridge over troubled waters, but somehow there was always humankind who were so willing to become a "Bridge" for me. It sounds like you had a very special bridge also during some very difficult times. Have you ever gone back to your painting? Sparrow, dear,I didn't realize ours were so close. Bridge came out about 2 years after Tim died and my neighbor who had a revolving front door, was not married, etc., had a healthy little boy. Blessings on you for posting the ink for Morning Has Broken. Long a favorite, especially with all the floral pictures. You just blessed me with a few moments of being at one with the wonders of creation and gave me pause to come to quiet. May "morning break for you in all its glorious splendor. Thank you for those blessed moments of being before getting back to what needs doing.
Yesterday is gone forever.Tomorrow may not come. Live Fully each moment today. Look for Good Things that Happen to you Every Day.

Dear Betty... trouble ye not!!!!!!!!!!! I'm dreaming No, I wasn't 18 in 1970 and I didn't buy that album when I said I did. My memory playing tricks again. I can't remember now what it was I bought. I've just looked at the album I thought I bought at that time and it's marked 1972. Oh..never mind. I did paint for a while, on and off, but making cards on computer seems to have taken over that slot for the moment. I may go back to it one day. Morning Has Broken has been a favourite of mine since infant school days, and I was delighted when Cat Stevens brought out a record of it as I could have 2 favourites in one. Jude

Dear Betty . . . It seems that "Bridge over Troubled Waters" has spoken to so many of us . . . all living our lives unbeknownst to each other. Back in 1970 we were all who we were then, living our own lives, suffering our own losses, seeing our dreams die young, not even giving a thought that others might be in pain . . . It is a gift beyond measure that someone could write a song that has reached into the hearts of so many offering solace and comfort. Can you imagine the feeling it would be to offer such a gift? Thank you for reviving "Morning Has Broken" . . . It has indeed made my morning 'break in all its glorious splendour' . . . warm and grey--perfect for a little raking in the garden to see what lies underneath all those dead leaves. I might be surprised with love . . . sparrow ♥

Searching my vinyl collection I have found the purchase I really DID make at that time. It was "I'm Alive" by a group called The Hollies, and seems appropriate considering I was recovering from a breakdown. Jude

Today the music that speaks to me also touches on the topic of giving and the Hollies I the child of the sixties fell madly in love with the lyrics of this song....I had begun all kinds of plans to be a missionary, join peace corp etc......I also love the statement giving and receiving are the same thing how true...when I give of myself I receive too...enjoy the music and lyrics still move me deeply Thanks Jude for bringing this wonderful memory to me..... Oh PS I am a dog pwerson who also had cats but my Lady was so special no other dog was allowed in after her I dont have a pic to share she was so wonderful tho when I had my tumor and vertigo she walked beside me everywhere laid on my bed etc she reminded me of the NANA dog in Peter Pan really human in so many ways her expressions of her eyes etc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svLqFtM6l8g Namaste Barbara
God I gratefully await and accept your miracles for me that I may be a witness to your wonder

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IpaBQPspLXg When I think back on these times And the dreams we left behind I'll be glad 'cause I was blessed to get to have you in my life When I look back on these days I look and see your face You were right there for me In my dreams I'll always see you soar above the sky In my heart there'll always be a place for you for all my life I'll keep a part of you with me And everywhere I am, there you'll be And everywhere I am, there you'll be You know you showed me how it feels To feel the sky within my reach And I always will remember all the strength you gave to me Your love made me make it through Oh, I owe so much to you You were right there for me In my dreams I'll always see you soar above the sky In my heart there'll always be a place for you for all my life I'll keep a part of you with me And everywhere I am there you'll be 'Cause I always saw in you my light my strength And I want to thank you now for all the ways You were right there for me, you were right there for me always In my dreams I'll always see you soar above the sky In my heart there'll always be a place for you for all my life I'll keep a part of you with me And everywhere I am, there you'll be And everywhere I am, there you'll be

Thank you to everybody who has posted so far. There are many songs which I recognise here, and others which I have yet to hear. (Of course, there are more still which are of the sort which make me well up- I have to be very selective about female vocalists, because so many of them can reduce me to tears.) However, when it comes to inspiration, which is what I interpreted the title of this thread to mean, there is one individual's music which stands head and shoulders above the rest. For me, George Harrison is one of the most inspiring musicians I've ever heard. A 1997 acoustic version of "All Things Must Pass". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-l1y0gnSnI&feature=related

Only Time . . . Just listen, or watch the flower array . . . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0NoHN1TU5I Only Time lyrics Who can say where the road goes where the day flows only time And who can say if your love grows as your heart chose only time Who can say why your heart sighs as your love flies only time And who can say why your heart cries when your love lies only time Who can say when the roads meet that love might be in your heart And who can say when the day sleeps if the night keeps all your heart Night keeps all your heart Who can say if your love grows as your heart chose only time And who can say where the road goes where the day flows only time Who knows - only time Who knows - only time a peaceful day in spirit ♥

Do you know well you don't but I would like to share this with you. Today I was singing these lyrics not because I heard them on the radio ,because they came to me for a very special reason ♥ When I die and they lay me to rest Gonna go to the place that's the best When I lay me down to die Goin' up to the spirit in the sky Goin' up to the spirit in the sky That's where I'm gonna go when I die When I die and they lay me to rest Gonna go to the place that's the best Prepare yourself you know it's a must Gotta have a friend in Jesus So you know that when you die He's gonna recommend you To the spirit in the sky Gonna recommend you To the spirit in the sky That's where you're gonna go when you die When you die and they lay you to rest You're gonna go to the place that's the best Never been a sinner I never sinned I got a friend in Jesus So you know that when I die He's gonna set me up with The spirit in the sky Oh set me up with the spirit in the sky That's where I'm gonna go when I die When I die and they lay me to rest I'm gonna go to the place that's the best Go to the place that's the best I have heard this song many times, and each time I heard it playing I just brushed past the words not knowing what they meant. In fact if I am honest they really meant nothing at all to me until today. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9bplEcbzjME

Ah dear Sandra . . . I haven't listened to this song in years . . . funny how you can hear a piece of music and then later hear it again, and get something completely new out of it? This happens to me with art and literature as well. Thank you for this musical treat with love . . . sparrow ♥

I recently bought a cd of Billy McLaughlin's 'Guitar Mediations', not knowing that he has a serious health problem that should have destroyed his career. I had never heard of him until I bought the cd. I love the guitar in all its forms and the cd remains a great favourite. This video shows his fight back. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPzdkwZySos&feature=related
