Some say love it is a river
that drowns the tender reed
Some say love it is a razer
that leaves your soul to bleed

Some say love it is a hunger
an endless aching need
I say love it is a flower
and you it's only seed

It's the heart afraid of breaking
That never learns to dance
It's the dream afraid of waking
That never takes the chance
It's the one who won't be taken
Who cannot seem to give
And the soul afraid of dying
That never learns to live

When the night has been too lonely
And the road has been too long
And you think that love is only
For the lucky and the strong
Just remember in the winter
Far beneath the bitter snows
Lies the seed
That with the sun's love
In the spring
Becomes the rose
The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love~and be loved in return♥♥

You walked with me
Footprints in the sand
And helped me understand
Where I’m going
You walked with me
When I was all alone
With so much I no along the way
Then I heard you say

I promise you
I’m always there
When your heart is filled with sorrow and despair
I’ll carry you
When you need a friend
You’ll find my footprints in the sand

I see my life
Flash across the sky
So many times have I
Been so afraid ooh
And just when I
Have thought I’ve lost my way

You give me strength to carry on
That’s when I heard you say

I promise you
I’m always there
When your heart is filled with sorrow and despair
I’ll carry you
When you need a friend
You’ll find my footprints in the sand

When I’m weary
Well I no you’ll be there
And I can feel you
When you say

I promise you
I’m always there
When your heart is full of sadness and despair
I’ll carry you
When you need a friend
You’ll find my footprints in the sand
The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love~and be loved in return♥♥

It's another good-to-see-you Sunday morning
Oh, I hardly hear the words roll off my tongue
Looking in myself for signs of something
That's long gone

Oh, I stumble through a verse that says You love me
As the voices echo my thoughts drift away
And I close my eyes ashamed I'm feelin' nothing
I pray

Heal me
Heal these eyes
Heal this heart
Heal my mind
Breathe Your breath of life
Heal me
Wake my soul
From this sleep
Give me back the joy
Of when I first believed
Heal me

Oh, I lose myself to one more day's indifference
When my eyes are everywhere but fixed on You
I don't have the strength to overcome this distance
But You do
You do

I don't wanna waste another minute
Takin' all Your love for granted
I just wanna feel Your Holy Spirit
Rushing over me

Celine Dion & Andrea Bocelli - The Prayer

Pray you'll be our eyes, and watch us where we go.
And help us to be wise in times when we don't know
Let this be our prayer, when we lose our way
Lead us to the place, guide us with your grace
To a place where we'll be safe

La luce che tu hai
I pray we'll find your light
nel cuore resterà
and hold it in our hearts.
a ricordarci che
When stars go out each night,
eterna stella sei

The light you have
I pray we'll find your light
will be in the heart
and hold it in our hearts.
to remember us that
When stars go out each night,
you are eternal star
Nella mia preghiera
Let this be our prayer
quanta fede c'è
when shadows fill our day

How much faith there's
Let this be our prayer
in my prayer
when shadows fill our day
Lead us to a place, guide us with your grace
Give us faith so we'll be safe

Sognamo un mondo senza più violenza
un mondo di giustizia e di speranza
Ognuno dia la mano al suo vicino
Simbolo di pace, di fraternità

We dream a world without violence
a world of justice and faith.
Everyone gives the hand to his neighbours
Symbol of peace, of fraternity
La forza che ci dà
We ask that life be kind
è il desiderio che
and watch us from above
ognuno trovi amor
We hope each soul will find
intorno e dentro sé
another soul to love

The force his gives us
We ask that life be kind
is wish that
and watch us from above
everyone finds love
We hope each soul will find
around and inside
another soul to love
Let this be our prayer
Let this be our prayer, just like every child

Need to find a place, guide us with your grace
Give us faith so we'll be safe
Need to find a place, guide us with your grace
Give us faith so we'll be safe

È la fede che
hai acceso in noi,
sento che ci salverà

It's the faith
you light in us
I feel it will save us

Re:music that speaks to me... - 11/15/2009 7:18 AM
When I was ten, my dad took me to see Handel's Messiah (which was very strange now I think about it, because he was an atheist).  When it came to the Hallelujah Chorus, of course everyone stood up.  And I can remember as I listened thinking I would so much love to sing the chorus one day.  And I have thought that every year when I hear it again.

Well, low and behold, the choir I sing with on Tuesday evenings is going to sing the Hallelujah Chorus, and some other beautiful Christmas music, in a cathedral in Newcastle on a Sunday night close to Christmas.  So I have been very busily learning the Bass part (which is actually a Baritone part because it goes up to the E above middle C, and only down to the B an octave below middle C.

So here's a good version of the greatest expression of thanksgiving ever written.

Handel's Hallelujah Chorus

The video isn't interesting unless you want to be able to follow the music on the manuscript, but this version of the chorus is my favorite of all the ones on YouTube.

Enjoy!!

Dear Joe,
I don't think you need to believe in anything to appreciate this wonderful music, or to enjoy singing it. Naturally it makes it more meaningful if you do though.

I sang the whole of the Messiah in the school choir, together with about 20 other school choirs, when I was 14. It left an indelible mark on me too, and although my voice isn't so good I can still sing along with the sopranos!
Strangely, although I have wanted a good copy of the Messiah on tape, record or cd ever since, I only bought it for myself last Christmas, 49 years later........

Enjoy the concert,
Jude

Dear Joe,

Too bad you don't live in Chicago! Every year the Chicago Symphony hosts two
"Sing-along Messiah" performances. The tickets are free and on a first come first served basis. The audience, score in hands, is divided into four sections. I don't sing well enough to try to get a ticket, but this is a most popular event.

Also our church choir has been performing the Messiah for many years, skipping only one. It is performed by candle light with an orchestra of period instruments. Only the soloists are professionals. I have been thrilled by it several times.

I hope you'll have a wonderful experience!

Love,

Edda
Peace and joy!

I don't sing well enough to try to get a ticket

I wonder if you are another of the many people I meet who say "But I can't sing.  I can hear that I sing off key".  The reality is if you can hear that you aren't singing well then you can sing well, you just don't trust your voice.  Usually it's because someone has said they shouldn't or couldn't sing, usually when they are children.  I run workshops called "Reclaiming my Voice" where I help people who have a wish to sing, but no trust in their voice.  Of course it's a very major issue for survivors of child abuse, because without exception they have been made to keep silent about what was done to them.  Very often taking back the right to be heard can bring great healing.

In any case, if you are among a whole lot of people all singing, who is going to judge you.  Singing is a time when the left side of the brain (logical, language) and the right side (creative, feelings, music) are used together.

There is a saying that the eyes are the mirror of the soul.  Singing is giving expression of the soul to the universe.

Maybe this year you could try.

Dear Joe, the Hallelujah Chorus has always been a favorite.  I am so pleased you are getting the opportunity to finally be part of it.  Isn't it amazing what all those negatives can do to us as children.  In using art and
drawing while directing retreats, so many say they "can't" draw and are not at all creative.  It is always truly gratifying to see the art that is produced to explain feelings by those who "can't" do it because they just are not creative. The joy in your post is so spills over as this dream of yours is finally coming to fruition.
May it truly revive and strengthen your spirit.

Thank you, Joe, for your encouragement!
You have a point, since those singing loudly off key usually are not aware of it!
I am fine singing along with the congregation at church.
Unfortunately, my current circumstances don't allow me to participate in any evening events.

By the way, the Sing-Along Messiah is officially called the Do-It-Yourself Messiah!

I do this every year,

I also bring out Odetta's Christmas CD
and Carlo Menotti's 'Amahl and the Night Visitors' . . .
which I used to know by heart,
but still remember well enough to sing along with.

I pray so hard for this....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VN1ojFZqcFc

She was driving last Friday on her way to Cincinnati
On a snow white Christmas Eve
Going home to see her Mama and her Daddy
With the baby in the backseat

Fifty miles to go and she was running low
On faith and gasoline
It'd been a long hard year

She had a lot on her mind and she didn't pay attention
She was going way too fast
Before she knew it she was spinning
On a thin black sheet of glass

She saw both their lives flash before her eyes
She didn't even have time to cry
She was so scared
She threw her hands up in the air

Jesus, take the wheel
Take it from my hands
Cause I can't do this on my own

I'm letting go
So give me one more chance
To save me from this road I'm on
Jesus, take the wheel

It was still getting colder when she made it to the shoulder
And the car came to a stop
She cried when she saw that baby in the backseat
Sleeping like a rock

And for the first time in a long time
She bowed her head to pray
She said I'm sorry for the way
I've been living my life

I know I've got to change
So from now on tonight

Jesus, take the wheel
Take it from my hands
Cause I can't do this on my own

I'm letting go
So give me one more chance
To save me from this road I'm on

Oh Jesus, take the wheel
Oh, I'm letting go

So give me one more chance
Save me from this road I'm on
From this road I'm on
Jesus, take the wheel
Oh, take it, take it from me
Oh, why, ooh

STILL
music & lyrics: Gerrit Hofsink

I’ve been waiting for you
For such a long time
You’re always on my mind

And I’m lying awake
Most of the night
Waiting to hold you tight

Now that I do
And look at you
My heart is breaking
This can’t be true

Lost you before I found you
Gone before you came
But I love you just the same
Missed you before I met you
On earth we never can
But in heaven we’ll meet again

Close to my soul
Close to my heart
Right from the start

Lost in time
Lost in space
Can’t wait to see your face

Now that I do
And look at you
My heart is breaking
I know it’s true

Lost you before I found you
Gone before you came

But I love you just the same
Missed you before I met you
On earth we never can

But in heaven we’ll meet again

Sometimes I find myself wondering what to do
With this pain that I’m going through

But I know one day, God will take me away
And I’m coming home to you

And when I do
And look at you
My heart is healing
I know it’s true

Lost you before I found you
Gone before you came

But I love you just the same
Missed you before I met you
On earth we never can
But in heaven we’ll meet again
The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love~and be loved in return♥♥

I love this song so much it reminds me of when I was little. I use to sing my heart out to this song.Funny enough I did sing this song last week to a real donkey..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnPUYD2g3pY

Little donkey, little donkey on the dusty road
Got to keep on plodding onwards with your precious load
Been a long time, little donkey, through the winters night
Dont give up now, little donkey,
Bethlehems in sight

Ring out those bells tonight
Bethlehem, Bethlehem
Follow that star tonight
Bethlehem, Bethlehem

Little donkey, little donkey, had a heavy day
Little donkey, carry Mary safely on her way
Little donkey, little donkey, journey's end is near
There are wiseman waiting for a sign to bring them here

Do not falter little donkey, there's a star ahead
It will guide you, little donkey, to a cattle shed

Ring out those bells tonight
Bethlehem, Bethlehem
Follow that star tonight
Bethlehem, Bethlehem

Little donkey, little donkey, had a heavy day
Little donkey, carry Mary, safely on her way
Little donkey, carry Mary, safely on her way

Bethlehem, Bethlehem

This was the funniest bit on my tape of it. My Son started off the "Beth" with a loud and deep voice, and the "lehem" went up to a very high and wavery squeak!!

It's so difficult not to laugh at their funny little ways. I remember well how I almost had hysterics when my daughter sang ..."The kettles are lowing, the baby awakes..." I have that on tape too, together with her marvellous lip smacking "P" at the end of "sleep." Her teacher obviously taught them well. Lovely days!

I get such comfort from this song....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BOZKc8CyaaQ&feature=related

There is no problem so big God cannot solve it.  There is no mountain so tall He cannot move it.
There is no storm so dark God cannot calm it.  There is no sorrow so deep, God cannot soothe it.

If He carried the weight of the world upon His shoulders.
I know , my brother, that He will carry you.

If He carried the weight of the world upon His shoulders.
I know, my sister, that He will carry you.

I sit and wait
Does an angel contemplate my fate
And do they know
The places where we go
When we're grey and old
'cos I have been told
That salvation lets their wings unfold
So when I'm lying in my bed
Thoughts running through my head
And I feel the love is dead
I'm loving angels instead

And through it all she offers me protection
A lot of love and affection
Whether I'm right or wrong
And down the waterfall
Wherever it may take me
I know that life won't break me
When I come to call she won't forsake me
I'm loving angels instead

When I'm feeling weak
And my pain walks down a one way street
I look above
And I know I'll always be blessed with love
And as the feeling grows
She breathes flesh to my bones
And when love is dead
I'm loving angels instead

And through it all she offers me protection
A lot of love and affection
Whether I'm right or wrong
And down the waterfall
Wherever it may take me
I know that life won't break me
When I come to call she won't forsake me

For all of you who struggle this time of the year, with whatever kind of loss and grief that
brings "heart hurt", doubt or anger, may I share a song with you that helped my sister, her three young children and our family get through the sudden death, shortly before Christmas, of her husband (my brother-in-law) who was my husband's best friend.  Her husband had just had a complete physical the week before and had been told that he was in excellent health. A week later on a Saturday night, while sitting in the living room, he had a massive heart attack, and died immediately.

May this help to ease your heart hurts and sustain your faith, as it once did ours.  From what I can tell, you are free to download it from the website at no cost .

A Time Will Come for Singing

Hugs and prayers,
Betty

Lost
On a painted sky
Where the clouds are hung
For the poet's eye
You may find him
If you may find him

There
On a distant shore
By the wings of dreams
Through an open door
You may know him
If you may

Be
As a page that aches for words
Which speaks on a theme that's timeless
While the sun God will make for your day
Sing
As a song in search of a voice that is silent
And the one God will make for your way

And we dance
To a whispered voice
Overheard by the sould
Undertook by the heart
And you may know it
If you may know it

While the sand
Would become the stone
Which begat the spark
Turned to living bone
Holy, holy
Sanctus, sanctus

Be
As a page that aches for word
Which speaks on a theme that is timeless
While the sun God will make for your day
Sing
As a song in search of a voice that is silent
And the one God will make for your day.

It is not just the music, it is the immeasurable yearning, it overcome to me,
for a peacful life, or death, the unrestrained believe, that I, we,  never can find here on earth, what one could ever get, if someone tries to be in peace.

love
is.

PS:
I´ve tried to translate it, as good, as I can.

Verloren

Auf einem gemalten Himmel
Über dem die Wolken hängen
Mit dem Auge des Dichters
Kannst du ihn vielleicht finden
Und wenn du ihn finden kannst

Dort

In einem fernen Land
Mit den Flügeln deiner Träume
Wie durch eine offene Tür
Dann vielleicht erkennst du ihn

Und wenn du es kannst
Und du erkennst ihn
Wenn du nur einfach
Durch dein

Sein

Wie diese eine Seite
Die in dir sucht
Nach schmerzhaft gesprochenen
Worten
Welche über ein zeitloses
Thema gesprochen
Wird die Sonne Gottes
Für dich zum Tag

Sing

Wie das Lied auf der Suche
Nach einer Stimme
Die schweigt
Während Gott sie für dich
Zu deinem Weg machen wird

Und wir tanzen
Um diese leise Stimme
Die sich
Verpflichtete durch unser Herz

Und wie du weißt
Dass der Sand
Würde er zu Stein
Welche Funken zeugen
Sie würden z
Einer Drehscheibe lebender Knochen

Heilig, heilig
Sanctus, Sanctus

Sein

Wie diese eine Seite
Die in dir sucht
Nach schmerzhaften Worten
Welche über ein zeitloses
Thema gesprochen
Wird die Sonne Gottes
Für dich zum Tag

Sing

Wie ein Lied auf der Suche
Nach einer Stimme die schweigt
Wird Gott sie für dich
Zu deinem Weg machen.

. . . so very beautiful dear Isabella . . .
You are right.
It is not just the music,
but also the visuals
that reach down inside of me . . .
yes,
the immeasurable yearning . . .
I feel it in the tears that spring to my eyes.
It is in these moments that I find sweetness and grace
here on earth.
Let these moments guide me home
with love . . .

It was on a starry night when the hills were bright
Earth lay sleeping, sleeping calm and still.
Then in a cattle shed, in a manger bed
a boy was born, king of all the world.
And all the angels sang for him, the bells of heaven rang for him
for a boy was born, king of all the world.
Soon the shepherds came that way where the baby lay
and were kneeling, kneeling by his side.
And their hearts believed again for the peace of men,
for a boy was born, king of all the world.

Yes indeed,
dear Bright Spirit . . .
it comes through loud and clear
here,
across the pond.
These children are just darling
and so spontaneous.
Thank you for sharing it with us
with love . . .
