another thought that has occurred to me--perhaps if she could excel at something that challenges her creatively, intellectually...something that would not be inhibited by her physical disabilities (art, music, writing perhaps)?
The truth, dear Sarah, is that most of us are not able to achieve many of our dreams...part of the challenge of living for all of us is to be as good as we can be, make the best of what has been given us, and take pride in the accomplishments that we are able to make.
A tall order for all of us,
but especially for a child . . .

Thank you all for your kind thoughts. I have ordered Velveteen Rabbit book thankyou for letting me know of that one. We have tried sports with Sophie she has played wheelchair foot ball and ice skating in her power chair but it is never enough and she gets very down after which can last for weeks. I wish I could make every thing better for her and give her what her heart dreams of. Thankyou for your support it means so much.

I just wanted to write to thankyou all for your support. It means so much to me. Sophie is 8 on christmas eve and although I am so pleased watching her grow up deep inside of me I am scared that, that is another year gone with her. And I fear what is to come next year will this be the year I have to watch helplessly as she becomes dependent on her wheelchair? Very sad way to look at things I know, I guess its the fear of not knowing when this disablity will take over even more.

I hope you all had a lovely christmas. Ours was. We recived a letter from Great Ormond Strret Hospital on Christmas eve as they want to see Sophie this. Its a little frigtening. I pray this year brings us closer to a cure for Sophie.

Hi to all.
Sophie has been having a lot of pains just recently in her legs and has wanted to spend most of her day in her powerchair. The physio is concerned she may never walk again if she doesnt try soon.
She cant have to strong pain killers as they contain muscle relaxtion and this will make her floppyer and effect her heart and lungs.
She is seeing someone on thursday as a councellor. Hope it helps her and me for that matter. Feel so low at the moment. I just want to hold her forever.

My thoughts are with you and little Sophie right now.No one wants to see anyone in pain and when it's your own child it is heart breaking.
 
Sarah I have a good friend who is a child counsellor and she works wonders on all children  she really does.I am sure in many ways couselling will help both Sophie and her Mummy.

Hi all and thankyou for your thoughts. Sophie is still struggling with pains and trying to get comfortable. We are thinking of trying to raise funds for a specialist chair, that we hope will offer her some comfort. Also this week my 2 year old son has been diagnosed with Autism. So feel a bit stressed at the moment there is a lot of support that both my children need. Just hoping I am a good enough mum to give it to them both.

I'm sorry to hear of your son's diagnosis.  In addition to your daughter's health issues, this is a time you need to reach out for support.  You can't do this alone.  We are here for you so keep sharing and venting.  Also, I wonder if there is a support group online or at a local hospital, etc., to help you with all this.
