We are not human beings having a spiritual experience.
We are spiritual beings having a human experience.
- Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

Rosemary Altea, a gifted, uncommon clairvoyant, in her riveting autobiography, The Eagle and the Rose, she conveys a remarkably soul-stirring story:

One of my aims, working as a medium, is to teach you, all of you who would come to learn, in the same way that I too have been taught, to give you a greater understanding that life is an adventure, a learning experience that, if embraced, will help us grow. In that growing we can discover the spirit self and truly know who we are. Death is a door that we all must walk through, and it is that spirit self that, discarding the physical body, will take us on to continue our lives, learning and growing as we go.

I am fortunate that I was born with, and have recognized, the awareness of the spirit world. I am of the universe even as I live my life on the earth plane, and with that knowledge I have been able through time to face my fears and to deal with them. Consequently my life has become more and more fulfilled and fulfilling. Truthfully I cannot say if, at the moment of my death, I will race through that door willingly, for even now the thought of leaving behind friends and family, particularly my daughter, saddens me. I feel sure that I will be apprehensive about the journey to come, but I know it will take but a moment before I see the light that will show me the path that is mine to follow. I know too that I am, even on the earth, walking a path that is also lit if I care to look. This makes me unafraid of life.

"Thank God for the gift to heal."

How can I explain how healing works? When I talk of energy, universal ... God ... energy, that healing energy which a healer can "plug" into in the same way we might use electricity, I liken it to that same electric power, unseen and intangible, but nevertheless just as real and much more powerful. A healer will, using mind ... thought ... energy, project a thought out to the universe. The universe receives this thought, this pulse of energy, which is then transmitted back to the healer and then on through to the patient. As far as the patient and the healer are concerned, this is, even though so powerful, still a gentle art... The patient will inevitably relax, often going into a gentle sleep state, and will wake feeling calm, settled, and at peace. Although the healer will have concentrated on the physical body, he/she will also, and again using in a constructive way the energy that has been created, have been aware of and given healing to the spirit self, the light of the soul.

In the same way, using mind energy connected with universal, God energy, we can give absent or distant healing. Projecting our thoughts forward and by concentrating our healing thoughts out toward a patient, those thoughts that are pure energy, healing energy, will travel through time and space to reach the person to whom it is directed. Healing, healing energy, knows no bounds. No distance is too far...

Thank you Bernie for both these extracts. They describe their subjects perfectly.
When ever someone asks me to describe Healing, I'm usually at a loss for words and struggle somewhat! If only I could give them Rosemary Altea's description!!

There are many who would suppose that to give healing is to attempt to cure a physical ailment, which of course it is. But first and foremost, healing is given to the spirit of the patient, the spirit self, which is the light of the soul. We try to give energy and power to feed that light to make it brighter.

Mick (a healer) gave his energy. He gave his love, and when I talk of love in this way, I talk of the love that God inspires, that God force that is deep within us, which some recognize and grow from. Many races, many creeds, will have a different name for it, but call it God or Allah or any other name, it does not make a difference. What we are talking of here is that universal force, that great power that is goodness and that, if used wisely, will bring about peace, harmony, and that word again ... love.

As I progressed with my work, my mediumship, I began giving spiritual self-awareness classes every Friday evening. More and more people were coming to me wanting to learn about the psychic world, and I felt that perhaps I could help them in this way, maybe teaching them to grow in their understanding of themselves and of their spiritual selves, of the light within them.

Ibid., ch:"Rosemary the Healer"

In the spirit world, just being is enough. We don't need the fancy car, the big house, the prestigious job, or the right friends to boost our ego and make us feel better about ourselves. We discover that simply being, existing, is everything. That through our own self-growth we become more of who we are, who we want to be.

It is a fact that we are all spiritual beings having a human experience, and it is our human behavior that often holds us back, blinds us to who and what we really are. Therefore we should try to train our mind to work in the way we want it to work, and not in the way it has been conditioned to work.

Look again at the positive factors in your personality and makeup. List these positives, and for a few minutes each day state them, out loud and positively. I am gentle, I am caring, I am a sensitive person. Then state again positively. This is what I want to be. This is what I want to be more of. This is what and who I am.

This is how you can learn to control your thought processes in a positive and constructive way.

Whatever mantra you decide to choose for yourself, remember, the power that comes with it is yours.

Thank you Bernie for this affirmation . . .
this, to me, is what 'sitting' or meditating is all about.
By living in the very present moment as much as possible,
all of this becomes more powerful,
and the fluff and flutter of life more trivial in the grand scheme . . .

While I do not consider myself anywhere near the intellectual capacity of Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, these statements almost seem to be a return to a degree of the ancient heresies of Apolinarianism, Monophysitism and Docetism and the whole dualistic approach that "body" is something we need to rise above and "spirit" is what is really important. We really are not "body" but "spirit" I apologize if I am misunderstanding these quotes.

Teilhard, Jesuit philos./scientist, very much exemplifies a nondual approach in philos., i.e., w/o a radical change of heart, of inner consciousness, no matter how perfect the mechanism may be, things cannot radically change...a thoroughly integrated consciousness, Teilhard's 'Omega point', is the profoundest potential of man, i.e., Christ consciousness... Thus, the human personality is a body-mind-spirit continuum, a nature-spirit whole ad infinitum.

Dear Betty . . .
I see the quote as this . . .
We are spiritual beings who have been given these lovely physical bodies as vehicles to carry us through our lives here.
Our bodies are our temples.
I don't see it all as a conflict between our spiritual selves and our physical selves . . .
I see it more as a 'conflict' for the lack of a better word, between our true selves and our egos.
Our egos generally "run the show", and this is where problems occur.
Our spiritual selves know what is right and good,
but our egos' only concern is to satisfy itself.
On this journey I am trying to learn that my wants and desires are not me, and I not them.
Neither am I my suffering . . .
not so identified with it that it becomes 'who I am'.

I could be all wrong of course, and I feel that the more I try to write about it, the more obscure it might sound, so I will stop here.
I feel like I have been rather clumsy in trying to translate from inside to outside . . .
Does it make any sense to you?
with love . . .

Dear Sparrow,
You make perfect sense to me!

I've always had a conflict with some 'spiritual' teachers who say the body, or the physical experience is not important, and is even an impediment to the spiritual life. They go to great lengths to suppress their natural physical identities, some even believing they need to flaggelate themsleves in order to do so. Why would we have a physical body if it wasn't important, and a beautiful part of creation? God made us physical beings (or, if you don't believe in God, we chose to be born into a physical body) with all the wonders attached to it. As Sparrow says, it is our temple, and plays a huge part in our spiritual experience.
