Re:Hello - 11/7/2009 11:58 AM ( #2601 )

I hear they make 'fireplace videos' now . . .

Mmmmm.... a living fire. I remember it well (in fact it isn't too far away from me, but I never see it. )

Yes, you do risk burning the carpet, but it's worth it.

Good Morning Gratefulness,

I leave a poppy in the cafe today to remember  those who have lost their lives to war & for their loved ones who mourn them. Those who have been injured through war. Those who are still at war and for the many family and friends who are waiting for their loved ones to come home from war.....

Peace and guidance be with you all

Thank you Sandra for reminding us.

In my campaigning days I wore both a red poppy and a white poppy for a peaceful world, and it upset a lot of people, which is a shame. The white poppy was to say I wished for a world without war.

Jude that's lovely but also very sad at the same time.I had no idea you could get white poppies. Many lives were taken again today through war . I also hope for a world that will somehow find peace within...

Jude that's lovely but also very sad at the same time.I had no idea you could get white poppies. Many lives were taken again today through war . I hope for a world that will somehow find peace within...

You can get white poppies from the Peace Pledge Union which was founded in 1934
http://www.ppu.org.uk/

Yes it is sad that conflict can be caused by something designed to help bring peace in the world. In a way its understandable, because some people think white poppy wearers are against our dead and wounded, when in fact they actually want to stop them being dead and wounded in the first place!
Living in a garrison town I've decided not to wear either. I can see both points of view, but it's always seemed ironic to me that 'peacemakers' are always condemned, starting with the first one...Jesus.
Seeing the local regiment return home from Afghanistan recently was a very emotional thing.

We have had this problem here in the US as well.
There was so much ill will during and after the Vietnam war,
and then the Gulf war.
Now though,
we make clear the difference . . .
we support the troops, but not the war.
I too,
pray for peace for our little planet
with love . . .

The killing of twelve soldiers and one civilian at Fort Hood in Texas and the wounding of many more by one of their own is not only tragic but shows how violence begets more of the same. There is no way around it, war means violence no matter how justified some think it is. "Speak Peace in a World of Conflict," (M.B. Rosenberg), Juliana's motto, is more timely than ever!
