Hello there. I got some emails from RJ's wife Lou Ellen. Here is some information she said I could share with the forum.

She tells me that he had a a port put it for ease of transferring the IV's. They will do another PET scan in a few more weeks to see how the treatment is going. He has his radiation therapy down to a breeze, takes about 15 minutes from the time they take him back until he returns for trip home. Of course on Mondays, he goes directly to the lab for the chemo and that takes a number of hours. It will be much better tomorrow though since he now has the port in the shoulder so they don't have to struggle with his veins. he has had none of the nausea usually associated with chemo and he is generally eating fairly well. he is having good days and bad days. continued prayer would be much appreciated....

Lou Ellen herself could use some prayers too. she is having a biopsy of the artery running through her temple today, they think she has what is known as Giant Cell Arteritis. She is not afraid since they have already started treatment, unfortunately it requires long term (at least six months) use of Prednisone and she doesn't look forward to the increase weight gain. She has no problems so far with her sight which is a major risk, but the doctors believe they have caught it in time to prevent any further damage.

If I find out any more about the situation I will keep you informed.

[color="#000099" size="3"]Karen, I'm so sorry to hear about your friends' illnesses. I have lit a candle for both. It seems that Robert is having a good start with his radiation and chemo, and I know that more people than ever are surviving lung cancer today.

I will keep them both in my prayers.

Dear friends, thanks for all the candles and prayers and thoughts. The warmth I feel here for my friends and me is indescribably beautiful!

The following is an update from RJ's wife Lou Ellen. Robert J slept through the entire night without a pain pill.....God does love us !!!!! OOOPs- just learned that he woke at 2:00 and had to take the pill, but that is a good start....LE

Robert J went to bed tonight without a pain pill (first time). He had a good visit with the Radiologist and the Oncologist today. Probably within the next two weeks they will do some re-evaluation on his treatment and this is what they think; He will go from the chemo/radiation combo to a concentrated chemo treatment every three weeks. I was not totally aware of the fact that the chemo these past few weeks was to help his body accept the radiation. The Oncologist says he is very pleased with the progress and does expect a full recovery (just don't know how long it will take). Good News !!!! my biopsy came back -no Arteritis------Bad News-- more checking to see what is causing my blood sed-rate to rise and what is causing the problem.....I am happy since I don't have to continue worrying about the loss of eyesight for now anyway. I had the eyes checked today and there is no problem there. Actually I did not really think so, but I became a little paranoid just thinking that if I should lose my sight, who would take care of Robert J????. Tomorrow I will go for further lab work to see if they can determine why I am fighting the anemia again after a reprieve of nearly thirty years. My doctor is very determined and I feel confident that she will find the answer. I do not react normally to routine medications for anemia so I do anticipate a bit of a struggle.I thank you all so much for your prayers and good wishes for Robert J and for me. I love you all God Bless
