Re:I smiled today because...... - 11/30/2009 9:05 AM
I smiled today reading this poem got in e-mail from on-line friend:

Cleaning Poem
I asked the Lord to tell me
Why my house is such a mess.
He asked if I'd been 'computering',
And I had to answer 'yes.'

He told me to get off my fanny,
And tidy up the house.
And so I started cleaning up...
The smudges off my mouse.

I wiped and shined the topside.
That really did the trick....
I was just admiring my good work.

I didn't mean to 'click.'
But click, I did, and oops - I found
A real absorbing site
That I got SO way into it -

I was into it all night.

Nothing's changed except my mouse.
It's very, very shiny.
I guess my house will stay a mess....
While I sit here on my hiney.

Re:I smiled today because...... - 12/15/2009 6:16 PM
I smiled tonight when I found out  (Rudolph) came from   and  beloved Chicago...it's actually true look!!!

                                                                    Where Did Rudolph Come From?

Robert May's story of Rudolf

Here's the story of how the reindeer with the bright red nose first came to life... The year was 1939. A young man named Robert May was working as a copywriter for a department store in Chicago. One day, his boss asked him to write a Christmas story that could be given away to customers' children. Robert set to work on the project, but he found it hard to keep his mind on his writing. His wife was ill with cancer, and he was filled with grief. He thought of his four-year-old daughter, Barbara. She didn't understand why her mother couldn't play or go places with her. Robert also thought of his own childhood. In school he had skipped two grades ahead. Tall and thin, the youngest in his class, he didn't always fit in. The other children made fun of him. He decided to write a story to comfort Barbara and other children who felt different and left out. His boss said the story should be about an animal. Robert thought that "for Christmas, there was only one animal ...a reindeer." The reindeer would be different, as Robert had been as a child. But the story would have a happy ending. Whatever made the reindeer different would make him a hero. Santa would need a reindeer that was strong, fast, and able to fly in dark, snowy weather. What would make him different? Could he see in the dark? No, that was silly. "Then, " said Robert, "I had it! A nose...to shine in the dark and light the way, a big, red, shiny nose." What could he name the reindeer? Rollo? Too happy for a lonely reindeer. Reginald? Too formal. What about Rudolph? That was it! Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer! Robert read the finished story to Barbara and her friends. They loved it! It began. "Twas the day before Christmas, and all through the hills, the reindeer were playing ...enjoying the spills of skating and coasting, and climbing the willows...and hop-scotch and leap-frog (protected by pillows)." The department store published Robert May's book and gave free copies to two million children during the 1939 Christmas season. After World War II, over three million more copies were given away. So Robert's story was a great success-but there was more to come. In 1949, Robert's brother-in-law, Johnny Marks wrote the song, "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, " based on Robert's book. Gene Autry recorded the song and by 1950 it was the most popular Christmas song on the radio. Even today, millions of children and adults still sing it. The story of the kind-hearted little reindeer still brings us special cheer at Christmas-and all because Robert May remembered how it felt to be different. Story of Rudolph adapted from an article in Highlights for Children written by Catherine R. Joyce; December, 1994.

Thank you for posting this.  As I read it, it reminded me of the whole concept of "Advent"--faith that we are going toward/being open to a new, deeper relationship with the Divine, no matter what the circumstances "feel" like now .
Reading the events surrounding Rudolph's "birth", reminded me that no matter
how bleak things can seem at the moment, it is always a miracle to see how the
Divine can use that darkness given by life and turn it into light for so many.
Yesterday is gone forever.Tomorrow may not come. Live Fully each moment today. Look for Good Things that Happen to you Every Day.

I think this is true for me and I would like to think for many more people...

the way circumstances 'feel' is not always the true test,
is it?

Dear Isabella . . .
Perhaps it is in the small things rather than the big,
where we can find what is really important?

Dearest,Dearest Buba, do you have any idea of what a PURE GIFT you are to all of us????  Ijust popped in to change the video and move it back up.  Needed to sit for a minute since my "Ireland Knee" came back last Tuesday in all it's full blown Glory and out of towners will be here by tonight until after christmas.

Dearest Buba, This is hilarious

I just sat and laughed out loud.  Do you have any idea of what a special gift you have
for taking the ordinary simple things of life and giving us all a really good laugh when we
really need it.  I am being very honest when I say this--have you ever thought of doing a
cartoon for a newspaper--not draw the pictures but just do what you do here?? you have
a very special gift for doing it and Sandra is totally right when she tells you you have.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR A GOOD GOOD LAUGH.  I REALLY NEEDED IT.

Hugs and prayers,
Betty
P.S. Sandra, Dear, I didn't mean to slight you.  You SHOULD BE VERY PROUD that you put a new seat on your loo.  I know many many men who wouldn't even try to do it.

To all--If you see that the videos are not moved, it is because Marvin, his wife, the kids and all the relatives have taken up residence here and are now living in the warmth of my computer.  Everything on my computer is covered with line box grids and sometimes so are
my emails.  So far, this isn't.  Can't get it fixed til possibly Monday. At least I know he isn't visiting any of you.
Hugs and prayers for a peace filled weekend and many blessings on the new week.

Dear Betty, I agree, this toilet seat is hilarious! Buba does have a special gift!
As to installing a new one, it is really not all that difficult. Not so long ago I replaced two of them with padded ones for Leon's comfort. The challenge is to figure out the instructions! Drawings are often confusing, and "instruction English" tends to be incomprehensible!

I hope your knee gets better!

Edda

Betty, take care of your knee

Jude . . . just because you are you,

are you sure you are not using Leon as an excuse for the comfy seat?
