Plaintive or Buoyant: Getting worse or better?

There's certainly a lot to be grateful for, esp. when there's so much unhappiness, suffering, pain & horror in our midst and around the world. For instance, it's difficult to watch the news w/o feeling enervated, depressed - only negativity, sensationalism; indeed, the worst seems to be highlighted most of the time. If we could only transcend all this, then surely much more healthy well-being could permeate and manifest itself; i.e., rather than focusing on deteriorating, degenerating, turning for the worse scenarios, instead, the best, the finest, the preeminent would be the raison d'etre - our overwhelming reason & justification for being.

Oppositional, clashing forces are forever vying for reconciliation, closure, and are struggling to be creatively, integrally, & dynamically harmonized and synchronized. As yin-yang principles & forces in the universe, this dynamic is eternally seeking resolution, closure... and as it plays out in all things, all beings, it eventually finds peace - creative harmony - well-being flourishing towards ever-increasing unification – solidarity - wholeness.

Today, on the global scene, we're truly in process or recreating ourselves, it seems, at a very critical juncture when so much is in the offing, at the crossroads, at a turning point. Sanguinely, we'll choose wisely w/ a discriminating consciousness and not succumb to any further worsening, regressing, progressing backwards in lieu of moving forward triumphantly secure in a golden age of world peace - exuberant joy - with an abundance for all those in need, esp. for those in desperate plights & straits, and not only for a select few...

Dear Bernie . . .
This is why I have chosen a path of gratitude.
Positive begets positive
Negative begets negative.
The fruits of this are more than apparent in the difference of my life today
as compared to my life when I chose consciously or unconsciously
to live in the negative.
That is all the proof I need
with love and a refreshed delight in today . . .

Bernie, despite feeling sometimes that I have my head in the sand, this is the very reason I rarely watch the news and I don't have a daily newspaper.
I think we can do without being depressed about the state of the world.
I think it's important that we keep shining our lights and doing our best to shine them brighter all the time....raising our awareness of the whole.....that we are all one.
Like Sparrow I have felt a difference in my life.

Dear Bernie,

DO you see any positives in watching the news?

This is what I think sometimes:

Information does not necassarily lead to negativity and depression.
Being aware of what is going on today via the news helps one to gain wisdom.
There are also positive news stories being viewed. It seems the news actually does try to balance with heart warming news as well.
The news also brings us notices such as recalls of foods we may of purchased.
The news also gives us reasons to pray for a catastrophe that may of happened in our world. This also can raise help for the needy in many different ways. When I have shut myself off from the news (which I have done for over a year) I am not sure it is the best for me as I am not informed on what is relevant in my community or larger community too.
The news educates us on health issues, domestic policies which effect our daily lives, etc.
I found socially when I am not in the know of currant affairs I lack wisdom.
I also feel out of touch with the reality of what is going on around me.

So I often wonder if this point of view that "the news is Negative" is really true. Aren't we as people able to discriminate a headline negative or not as a source of enlightenment via knowledge and wisdom that we gain form acceses the truth of what is happening in the world around us. I also wonder if this news has not sparked some mighty fine people  into action to help people around the world. EX. Someone sees a report on cancer...and starts a foundation or starts raising funds for research in a small way or big way.Doesn't much of the knowledge from the news help us to safe guard our own lives as well. Which in my view is quite a positive. Ex. A scam that may be happening in your neighborhood...internet, etc. Isn't This negative reporting actually a positive in disguise? It helps be aware of what we need to know for effective planning in our daily lives. Isn't it the way we interpret "the news" more important then shutting ourselves away from the worlds hot topics in any given day! Just some thoughts how viewing the news which is so often labeled "Negative" can actually be a facet of life that improves and positively effects each one of us.

PS...Here's one way a news show was a source of knowledge I was seeking.
It was on a Senior Center in my area and when you donated to it 100% of your funds went directly to those it helps. I was looking for such a charity.
It helped me find a place to give to that I could feel safe that it was reputable.

Diane,
I think you have different news programs to the ones I watch!

Apart from the obvious disaster and war etc, ours is mainly about political squabbles!

I don't believe in shutting ourselves off from the world, but a daily dose of war reporting does nothing for my mental health. I can still pray and do what I can without actually watching news programs.

Jude,

I guess we do have different news programming.
There is some political squabbling but it is short and hardly anything on the war...just some headlines of any new injuries to anyone involved there.

love,
Diane

There's innumerable ways of looking at reality, of perceiving the world... accordingly, how we see things is the way we've been conditioned and oftentimes we simply project from within. And if we're able to, notwithstanding, think or see outside the box, then, a whole new world may resplendently illuminate before us …

So long as there is meaningful cohesion – congruency - greater integration and unification from within – what’s real will not escape us; eventually, the existential & transcendental worlds will be evermore unified, and the notion of becoming will flourish… in actuality, appearing more & more real.

"The Law of Spiritual Approach, which links us with our greater 'Being,' and the Principle of Essential Divinity, the spark of God in every man, open up to us our participation in a life greater than our own. They show that there is no real gap between man and God and bring the realization that we can discover this not only through religious experience, but through recognition of our place within the 'Whole.'

Daily, through every branch of science, discovery is being made of our relationship to one great Life, and of our interdependence as parts of the whole within that encompassing Reality. Among all the wonders being opened up to us none is more revelatory and inspiring than the identical nature of microcosm and macrocosm, atom and star.

These Laws and Principles form a fundamental code for our life in the New Age. They ring out a note of our higher possibilities, and if we will work with them they can establish those conditions upon earth which will truly build a new and better world."
