Sublimation - 5/25/2009 8:26 PM ( #1 )
An interesting psychological concept is that of sublimation, i.e., the channeling or redirecting of one's energy, life force, in a constructive, productive manner in lieu of misdirecting, dissipating, prostituting inner-resources in wasteful, destructive, devious ways... For instance, there are those who instead of mobilizing their resources in useful, helpful to others kind of way, they lead a highly selfish, misguided lifestyle which does so much damage & havoc to others; &, usually, ironically, their own lives as well, because of a boomerang-effect, 'what goes around comes around type of karmic-determinant.'

Thus, in a paradoxical process of self-denial in lieu of one of genuine self-interest, one’s energy or life force is wasted, squandered… in paradoxical, Eastern logic ‘A’ is not always ‘A’, but, indeed, may actually be ‘B’ because unlike Aristotelian thought, oppositional, clashing forces may, in fact, be seeking unitive closure, harmony & peace in the midst of forces that are vying for deeper meaning & purpose out of an egocentric form of consciousness to a  revolutionary, new Cosmo-centric outlook…

“Crime is contagious. If the government becomes a lawbreaker, it breeds contempt for the law; it invites every man to become a law unto himself … To declare that the government may commit crimes to secure the conviction of a private criminal – would bring terrible retribution.” – Justice Louis Brandeis, Olmstead v. United States, 1928 - (Jane Mayer, The Dark Side [The Inside Story of How the War on Terror Turned into a War on American Ideals])

‘In the course of inner self-development an individual may one day attain a sudden cataclysmic spiritual experience. It is the intuitive awareness of the eternal in man, of the timeless dimension of existence. It seems to involve a complete break with the past. It is the experience of being reborn in an entirely new world… the integral yogi experiences the identity of the world of space-time as the ever-expanding field of manifestation of the eternal. Integration of personality lays the foundation for an integrated outlook on life.’ - (Haridas Chaudhuri, Integral Yoga [The Concept of Harmonious and Creative Living])
If healing is to genuinely take hold, the body-mind-spirit (onto-psychosomatic) entity or continuum, must evolve holistically, nondually, meaningfully, transformatively ad infinitum, not perseverating ad nauseam. Amen.

Hi Bernie,

I think it is quite relevant in today's (past as well) world...all of what you write about here. So much is written on character deficiency in psychology today. I guess to me it is often a dignity issue...respect and courtesy...which often baffles my heart and mind...as I have lived...it seems like something I have felt since I was very young. This paradoxical nature of so much in life.
And even within books from masters on "true evolution"...spiritual and humanities unchangeable and unevolved condition. It seems ever rare "still" this ever-expanding field of manifestation of the eternal. Sometimes the abstract comes forth in some way which is hard to explain that seems more reliable for me.

Thanks again for your thought provoking work here!

Peace, Love and Joy,
Diane
