I'm a beginner - 7/3/2009 2:33 PM ( #1 )
Hallo, I'm Margot.
That's my very first visit in a forum and I'm not used to the english language. Please be clement.
After a dessertation from Br. David at TV I visited your web-site last week (also first time) and was very glad to find a place where I've the feeling of peace and luck. There I'm able to learn more to be.
In finding words for my own about wonderful and mysterious incidents I notice how wonderful they really are and they get more reality. In telling someone and listening to someone something marvellous happens to me. If the story is wonderful, the wonder increases.
I believe the same happens with worse storys, but it's my own choice to see the bad. Live is often exhausting enough.
Greetings to all,
Margot

Welcome to the forum, Margot!

I am glad you found us! Yes, it is wonderful to have a place where you can share your experiences, both those of awe and wonder, and also the troubling ones.
Don't worry about your English! There are others here for whom it is not their native tongue!

Like Buba I would encourage you to visit often so that we can get to know you, and you us.

With every good wish and love,
Edda
Peace and joy!

Welcome from me, too, Margot! My native tongue isn´t English, either, but people here are extremely tolerant. It is a good place to be. If you happen to speak German, you may also go to "GGG", a thread in German, on the Forum of "Gratefulness Groups in your Community".

Looking forward to reading more from you,
Juliana

Hi Margot,
welcome here.  We all were beginners once here. I so much like what you wrote.
In telling someone and listening to someone something marvellous happens to me. If the story is wonderful, the wonder increases.
I believe the same happens with worse storys, but it's my own choice to see the bad.

how true it is.

Many people here do speak different languages.  I know that you will be appreciated here.  And I am glad to meet you.  I hope to read your words often. With love, liliwings

Dear Juliana,
thank you for telling me about GGG. How can I find it? In the moment I translate all of the textes here (not very fast). And thanks for the possibility to look for german forum sites. I'll look after!
But I also see, the most spoken language here is english. To speak with most people I'll have to increase my english. The apprehension I have is to be misunderstood. But perhaps it is not so important.
Thanks
Margot

Dear Margot,

To find GGG click on "All Forums". You will find a list of four forums. The bottom one is called
"Gratefulness Groups in Your Community". To the right you will usually find the latest post in GGG. Just click on it and it will take you there.
Should something else happen to be there then click on the forum and you will get a list that includes GGG. You can post there by clicking on "Reply to message".

You are doing very well with English, and it is worth the trouble learning more! Several of us post in both languages. Don't worry about being misunderstood. People here are very understanding!

Viel Glueck! Und Auf Wiedersehen in GGG!

Love,
Edda

Dear Margot,

you have sent me the same message as your post as a PM, and I sent you one in German in return. But I do not know whether German really is your mother-tongue!? Please let us know, then it will be easier to communicate.

Edda is so right: everyone here is full of understanding.

Juliana

PS: I have just noticed that you live in Bavaria! So you do speak German!

Hallo to all of you!
I'm deeply mooved by all your answers. Thank you all!
To share something is a gift!

I sometimes wondered about the phrase: Love is the only thing which increases by wasting. I think not only love increases. Gratefulness also does. And joy. It's the same way, right?
Thank You!

Re:I'm a beginner - 7/7/2009 1:07 PM ( #12 )
Margot, Welcome to our Gratefulness Family.  From what I "read" on the GGG where you live outside Salsburg with your son and husband, must be truly beautiful, though I can see why your son Florian might get bored.  It is so good to "read" that the area you are living in once again is being returned to its former beauty.  PLEASE, do not allow language to become a barrier to your posting.  There are so many good translation sites on the internet other than Babelfish.  The one that I found does live online translations for businesses, teaches the languages, and also has a free service.  None of us are perfect in any language.  As far as possible misunderstandings, in the States, often the same word has a totally different meaning here, depending on which part of the country in which you live.

Margo, we all were "beginners at one time and as Juliana told you, several months ago, we all had to learn how to use the new upgraded software program on the site so we all became beginners once more.

Anyone who works as a nurse with the elderly truly must be a tremendously loving patient person.  Please be patient with all of us and if there is something you do not understand, do not hesitate to ask.

In the States, we have a short quote for your saying--"Joy shared is multiplied.  Sorrow shared is divided.'
(The Joy seems to increase by sharing and the sorrow seems to decrease by sharing).

I, personally look forward to learn much from one who has the patience and love to work in nursing for
the elderly.

Blessings on you and your family,

Yesterday is gone forever.Tomorrow may not come. Live Fully each moment today. Look for Good Things that Happen to you Every Day.

Re:I'm a beginner - 7/7/2009 4:01 PM ( #13 )
Dear I'menuff,
hallo again,
I have to say, I'm not tremendously loving patient. I'm a learner. Very human and learnd a lot of this old and sometimes also young or moribund People. The one I had to learn hard was, that it's a equal level, the nurse and the person concerned. Now I can say, I'm very grateful to all I've accompanied a time.

Now I'm not nursing any more. Only look after the residents of a residential home (not a nursing home), there the most elderly people are living alone ore with their husband, self-determined. It's a newer form of living because the old form of family living is breaking apart.
Naturally there are very fragile ones, but there is coming a home-nursing-service (I was a home-nurse, too).
What's my today question:
In this house there lives a lady about 95 years old and she went blind a few years ago. Now she's also almost deaf and sitting in a wheel-chair but her spirit and mind is fully awake. I love her. But she wants to die. Live got boring, she is not able to read her most beloved books anymore. Everytime I visit her she says "god forgot myself". Now I want to translate the article of Br. David: "Learning to die" and read for her. She likes artikles like that I know, because I spoke with her about. How am I doing with this unmanageable computer?

You see, I'm not afraid asking, but if there is no possibility to teach me I try translating myself. It's a lot of work - because I read some of Br. Davids articles which I want to share with this lady. I think this lot of work increases my english!

Thank you for your nice answer!

By, Margot

Margot, I think you are doing very well, both with the computer and with the English language! I have had no trouble understanding you.

I also congratulate you on your work. Some of the elderly can really test your patience.

Blessings,
Jude

Hi Margot,
Welcome!
It is wonderful to meet you and I am glad to get to know you.
Do they have tapes of books there?
I know they do here and in our librairy's.
That might help her find some relief from boredom.

Peace, Love and Joy,
Diane
Grateful to be here!

Dear Margot . . .
My own mother is over 89 years old,
and has also grown blind and deaf.
She continues to walk with a rolling walker,
and always tells me that she is ready and waiting . . .
sometimes wondering why she is still here.
I tell her
that there must still be work for her to do,
even though we might not be able to see the bigger picture.

I have a book called 'Graceful Passages...
a Companion for Living and Dying'
that has a CD with it to listen to.
I do not know if it is available in German
but it is very thoughtfully written.
Perhaps you can help your friend to be present . . .
by being there to listen,
and to be responsive to her needs
during this time of profound transformation.
You can help her to view the future
with a deeper vision
just by your presence with her presence
with love . . .

Bless you dear Margot

Dear Lilsparrow,
thank you for telling me about your life,
it's a really gift to me.
Sometimes I think we learn the most about the way one is telling about living his life, sharing his wisdom with us. Those peaces are like jewelrys to us.
This web-site is full of wisdom. One can choose this that fits. The most fits.
Yesterday all the lady needs was the presence of a friend. Tomorrow may be a poem. Lets have a look, I've a lot of ideas now and at the same time am able to let go.
Sometimes I think it's so hard to find the right words and then it must be without words.

Thank you and may god bless you too!

Margot

PS. Could you please tell me the author of your book?

Dear Margot, I am so sorry for taking so long to respond to your post.  This has been a very busy time.  I may be able to get some help for you in translating some of
Br. David’s articles and the one you mentioned.

After reading Sparrow’s Post,  I did some checking and found quite a bit of information on German Language books on tape (Audio books).  Since it is rather lengthy,
I would like to explain PM (Private Message) and then forward it to you in that manner.

If you have a private message, a little box will pop up when you first log on.
If you click on that little box, it will take you to your private message page.
You will see a box in the center that will show the title of the message and
Who sent it . On the right side it will show when it was sent.  Click on the
title of the message and it will open the message.  I will wait until tomorrow
to send you the lengthy message about where you can get books on tape
in German and what is available.

As caring and loving as you are with these individuals and this lady in particular
I am sure God will help us find a way to make it a little easier for you to help her.

Blessings on you for all your love and care for those who sometimes are the
most forgotten.

I think dear Margot,
that you are doing just the right thing already,
and I think that your friend is very fortunate
to have a friend such as you
with kindness and thoughtfulness.

The book and CD I mention
is written by Michael Stillwater and Gary Malkin
Music composed, conducted and produced by Gary Malkin
with spoken messages from leading speakers of the world.
It is published by New World Library in Novato, California USA
I believe I purchased mine through amazon.

that someone far away,
across the sea
is thinking of her too
