My friend Mary's husband has been ill and undergoing many tests.  We are praying that it is not cancer of his liver.  Yesterday Mary had to rush him in to the hospital with severe pain and tomorrow they are going to do a biopsy of his liver.  It is showing a mass there but they do not know if it is coming out of the liver or surrounding the liver.  Please pray for Jerry and Mary also.  She is a DAV and I know she can use the support that only all of you know how to do.

Stayed at the hospital for a few hours with Mary and Jerry.  Called her about 1:30 ext and she told me that they were going to take Jerry to the OR at 2 pm est and not do the Special Procedure that was scheduled she will let me know what is going on later and I will post when I find out.

Mary Just called.  They did not have to take Jerry to the OR but decided to try the needle biopsy in Special Procedures which was a success.  He is in a lot of pain and his daughter is with him.  Mary is heading back to the hospital.  She will either update me tonight or I will see him tomorrow when I go to work.

It was not good news on Monday.  Jerry has cancer of the liver and Mary told me they gave him 6 months.  I hope that is wrong.  He saw the Oncologist yesterday and will start chemotherapy treatment on Monday.  Now I guess it is another wait and see if the chemo is going to work.  Mary seems to be holding up well and will talk to her later this evening.

Mary just called me to ask me if they put a stent in for David.  I told her no she then told me that on Monday Jerry will have a stent inserted.  Will post more when I find out more information

Jerry is in the hospital and has been given a week.  He has been put into a drug induced coma.  He became very combative and tried to strangle his daughter.  I just left the hospital and Mary, two of his daughters, his sister and brother in law were there with him.   Jerry is comatose but I believe they can hear you, Wednesday he was very restless and yelling out.  I just talked to him and rubbed his arm telling him to relax and everthing was was going to be okay, today was very quiet, maybe hey found the right combination of drugs to keep him calm and pain free.
 
His wife is staying as much as possible with him and I wish she would go home and try and get some rest.  To cheer her up I bought her an orchid plant on Wednesday and I do believe I did..

I am so sorry to read this dear Beryl.Once again you are faced with death.I also believe people can hear you when they are in a coma.My Uncle was in a coma and he turned his head towards his sister when she was talking about the things they use to do as children.

Thank you Sandra.  I have told Mary and his daughters that Jerry has a special place here.  Right now Jerry is kept in a coma type state with drugs due to  his combative problems now.  I do talk to him when I go visit but make my visits short, there were too many people there today.  Two daughters, a sister, a brother in law and of course his wife Mary.  I only stayed about 10 minutes after work but stopped in when this morning for a short visit.

It is so hard seeing how much pain the family is in as I have been there.  The nursing staff that is taking care of Jerry also took care of my Big Blue Eyed Bear.  The all remember me and some of them do give me hugs.  It is hard to go back up to that floor but what is a friend to do?

Mary told Jerry's relatives that were there yesterday that Jerry loved me and my Big Blue Eyed Bear.  I think it was because of our relationship with Mary.  I could talk to him and we cracked a few jokes together.  He also cut some greyhounds out of wood for me.  They are all at his house now so when things quiet down I will have to get them back off of Mary and try and work with them.  I am thinking of trying to make some Christmas Ornaments.
 
I am going try and go back to the hospital again today  even if it is only for a couple of minutes I have to see what my schedule will be like here at home first

Mary is putting up a good front but I can see the pain and know what she is going through.  I only hope that Jerry's family gives her support when she needs it I will try and do all I can to help her through this difficult time.  I just pull some Amazing Grace Fleece Wall Panel/Throw which I will serge and take over to the hospital later today or tomorrow.

I had gone over to the hospital and saw his bed empty so I knew before Mary called me.  I had just finished serging Amazing Grace that I had with me to give to Mary.  I will still give it to her and let her decided what she wants done with it.  I am going to make a donation in Jerry's memory to Fast Friends Greyhound Rescue where I think it will be more useful that flowers for only one day.

Just back from seeing Mary, I called to check up on her and she said she had not gone to the store to get milk.  Asked her if she wanted me to get some for her and she said yes and would I also pick up a Sunday Paper for her.  Made sure she ate so we went to Clancys which is very close to her house.  At least I know she ate something, said she is going to get some rest as she only had about 1 hour sleep last night.  I will check up on her in the am.  Funeral is Monday, viewing 2 to 4 and 7 to 9, Services on Tuesday at 11 am.  He will be cremated and then the interment at a later date

i am so sorry about Jerrys illness' i pray that his wife and family, and you of course, may recieve comfort for this sad time.  and i pray for strength to get through this time.  i just wanted to say that Gerry and Mary havr a good friend to have in you being for there for them.
