Our Mother Earth nurturing us, and the beauty of the universe - 8/20/2009 8:01 PM ( #1 )
If we look at the universe from an astronomer's eye, the scarcity of liveable planets is striking.

We humans as sentient beings are an oddity. Why are we here?

For me, the many marvels of the universe, the sheer size of the galaxies is a constant source of wonder.

And yet He/She (Ya*) took the time to create flowers and tiny living gems such a hummingbirds.

Why do birds sing? I think they sing glory to the Creator... who cares how we call Him/Her/?

"Les cieux chantent la gloire de Dieu"... the skies are singing glory to God...

 Hindu proverb : there is only one God but *** has many names.

* By definition God is not a material being so gender is irrelevant.

I won't forget Carl Sagan saying that, if we were looking for somewhere else to go....there wasn't anywhere!

This is it, this is our only home and we'd better look after it.

Thank you Line.

Yes, Carl Sagan. I liked him much.

I supposed you guessed that I care a lot about this planet. This is why I call myself Green Woman.

Humans have "dominated and submitted" our planet, they have exploited it. I think we are called to good stewardship. Waste must stop.

I believe Francis of Assisi was the first ecologist, in the respect he showed for God's creation.

P.S. I am feeling sad today, which is normal in my situation. I miss my daughter, my baby, a lot. She moved out July 5, to be with her boyfriend and closer to the institute she will go back to in September (she is studying to be a chef. Every now and then my spouse comes and kisses me. Bless him!

I am sorry, dear Line,
that you are feeling sad . . .
often an unexpected kindness
is born from sadness.
Look for the gifts

Dear Line,

This thread reminds me of one of my most favorite poems by Gerard Manley Hopkins!

GOD'S GRANDEUR

The world is charged with the grandeur of God.
It will flame out, like shining from shook foil;
It gatheres to a greatness, like the ooze of oil
Crushed. Why do men then now not reck his rod?
Generations have trod, have trod, have trod;
And all is seared with trade; bleared, smeared with toil;
And wears man's smudge and shares man's smell: the soil
Is bare now, nor can foot feel, being shod.

And, for all this, natue is never spent;
there lives the dearest freshness deep down things;
And though the last lights off the black West went
Oh, morning, at the brown brink eastwards, springs -
Because the Holy Ghost over the bent
World broods with warm breast and with ah! bright wings.

I hope your sadness passes, and you will feel comforted by the "grandeur" aound you!

Edda
Peace and joy!

on rocky mountain granduer
amd hear the birds
sing sweetly in the trees.

Then sings my soul
my saviour God to thee
How great  Thou art
