Thinking about the subject "Music to be happy to" I stumbled on this, one of my very best favourites. At one time I just had to play the whole album at least once a day!! It never failed to uplift me and make me feel happy as I danced around the kitchen and sang along to it. This is just a small clip of the live concert from Edinburgh castle. If I had to use one word to describe the whole concert, it would be 'Joy' expecially at the end when the Scottish bagpipes and everything, including fireworks get involved. Pity that isn't on this clip. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-c4SSJnvCZE Jude

i am a fan of the edinburgh tattoo. i always get a shivery sensation down my back when the lone piper plays right at the top of the castle. there are plenty of pieces of music that help me get calm or feeling feelings that i have managed to try hide until now. i like fingels cave. and the moonlight sonata, as well as things like beautiful by christina aguilera.

If any of you have browsed around on YouTube you will understand how I arrived at this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAU1tXGMNvw after visiting Jude's link to Mike Oldfield . . . not a lively type of happy song, but a heartbreakingly beautiful expression of love . . . part of it is because it brings back memories both painful and lovely from the years I lived in Maine . . . part of it a sense of 'masks-off' simplicity . . . it invokes dancing, but a different sort of dance, which in the end, gives to me joy, sense of grace and opens my heart to more with love and tears . . . sparrow

I found some Goon Shows on YouTube today where I found this.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nebe1zuEtbc&feature=related The Goon Show brings back happy memories of the highlight of our week on the radio (before we had a TV) in the 1950s. My poor Mother never did understand why were all so helpless with laughter every week!!

Dear Eleanor, You aren't "thick" just too young to know about the Goon Show. It was a comedy radio program in the U.K. in the late 1950s with Spike Milligan, (who wrote the scripts) Harry Secombe, Peter Sellers and others. They were completely different to any comedians ever seen or heard before, and inspired many modern comedians like The Monty Python Show (which you may also be too young to know about) Basically, they got together each week with their script, and made each other laugh, as well as their audiences. Here is one of their programs. The other two parts are also on YouTube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pd0ONww0rrw&feature=related Jude

My poor Mother never did understand why were all so helpless with laughter every week!! I didn't realise that you were in my family! The memory of listening to the Goons each week is one of the few really good memories I have. Thanks for the links.

I don't think they do. It's a long time since I heard one on the radio, and I think that was something like a 40 years anniversary type of thing. All the people in the show are now dead. Jude
