Hi. I just got off the phone with Joya (user name here is mamaluvskids). I had not called her during the summer, being so busy I just neglected to. I feel really bad about not keeping in touch with her.
 
She is in the hospital and is extremely ill. She has been sick over a month and lost 30 lbs in the last month. She went undiagnosed with a urinary track infection that traveled up into her kidneys and ovaries (at least one kidney I guess). She also mentioned she has e. coli and that she has been on 5 different antibiotics so far. She has bad pain in her right side. She also has pancreatitis. Her white blood cell count is really high and her potassium level was so low one of the doctors said she should have been dead with potassium that low.  She was in and out of the hospitals recently. One time they released her without checking her blood work first. Like I said, the doctors could not figure out what was wrong with her so she went undiagnosed for awhile.  She is having surgery of some kind today to go inside and look at what is going on. She was unsure of exactly what they are doing since she has been in and out of it since Friday. I am so concerned and worried. She is such a sweet and special person and has been going through so much and spreading herself so thin. What  I mean is she is worn out regarding how much is on her plate and how much she does with the kids, a dog that had puppies (alot of puppies) and her other obligations and responsibilities.
 
I will talk to her again in a few days and give you an update. I am hoping some of you will join me in prayers and lighting candles for her. I am going to use the candle group name Joya. Thanks

I just tried to call her celphone, which is what she told me to call, and only got her voicemail. I did leave her a message saying I would call again in a day or two more. I sure hope the surgery went ok and that she is alright. If I do not get in touch with her within a week from today I will call her home number and try to find out what is going on.

Thanking you Karebear for sharing:  Please tell Joya my prayers are with her, and her family.  I am glad you were able to contact her.  It upsets me that the doctors missed this and it went so far. So my prayer is that God will give the doctors the knowledge to pinpoint exactly what is going on and get her medicine so she may return to her family.

First of all I am rushing to post this, so if I missed any questions above I apologize and will try to answer them soon, when I have time to read carefully.
 
Joya is home from the hospital. She said that two cysts of hers on her right ovary have burst, explaining her pain. Also, she was told it could take up to 6 months to recover from the pancreatitis she developed, and they think it was related to the e.coli. They also think the e.coli stems from her miscarriage of the baby, that maybe they did not get everything out, or something like that. She is really weak and is only really keeping down fluids and her meds. When she eats it is coming back up most of the time. Her husband is home this week taking care of her and the children. He is trying to keep her from working this weekend, telling her she is too weak and needs to rest. I talked to her at length and tried to stress the importance of taking it easy and please not to work. But her husband said she is worried about money. He is trying to make sure she doesnt get dehydrated again. She lost 30 lbs since this started, if I have not already told you that. She has trouble urinating due to the kidney trouble and has to take potassium. she is trying to eat and drink foods and liquids with potassium in it. Her BP was really low when she showed up at the hospital, only 72/39. She is feeling like she might pass out sometimes. One doctor said she was quite a mystery case until they finally figured out what was wrong.
 
I am going to light another candle in her group Joya now. When I talk to her again I will again post an update. She said to tell you all Thank You for all your replies and she really appreciates all the prayers and candles. I read her the list of users names who have posted and I could tell she was really touched by the outpouring of caring here.
 
Well, I gotta run pick up my stepson from school in a few minutes so I have to log off soon. Please keep praying that she RESTS instead of running herself too thin like she tends to do. I know she wants to take care of everyone else and everything, but she really needs to take time for herself now. I wish I could make her understand that better, but she has a big family and I understand her feelings too. I care so much about her; I hope and pray she feels stronger soon.

Thank you for the update on Joya. I am glad she is at home but the disadvantage is that she has such a hard time looking after herself. She needs to build her strength up. I think I asked this a long time ago, but are there no services available to help her at home? Does the Social Service Department at the hospital have a list of resources or could it make a referral? I hope she is willing to accept help.

I think it's time to get really tough with her and tell her the truth. After all, things can't get much worse for her healthwise!

Well, today's phone call started with her husband and I did suggest that he could find out about temporary assistance from his county. I was talking about financial help. But when I call again I will read to her what you wrote about social services, Hildegard. I dont know if it will do any good regarding if she will seek the help. I am trying but only she and her husband can make the decisions about what to do. I will bring up the subject though through reading your post to her. If she wants me to  I will read all the posts to her, unless she feels well enough to read at the forum herself.
 
Regarding coming home she said they advised against it but she missed the kids too much and they missed her. She says she understands that she can not take care of others unless she takes care of herself, but yet she doesnt seem to put it into action, or should I say, do less action and rest more.
 
Of course I am very concerned but with being hundreds of miles away I can not help very much except to be supportive. I will encourage her to read here, that much is for sure.
 
I hope for the best and pray she gets better enough to take care of the kids, because I know how important that is to her. Her mom took last week off from work and her husband took this week off. I just wish I could help out physically too.
 
please write more about what kinds of help she can get if anyone knows regarding social services in case she decides to seek it.

I talked to Joya briefly and she and I will talk again soon. She is driving and stuff so I guess she is feeling a little bit better.

Hey there. Joya called me yesterday. She is hanging in there, but did not give me alot of details. she wanted to tell you she has been reading here some and that she REALLY appreciates all the posts and candles showing your concern. It means SO MUCH to her.

Dearest All, I have such a great family on here ! I don't know what I would do without you! Each and everyone of you meant the world to me! Thanks so much for your love, thoughts and prayers, concerns and candles. They have meant more then you will ever know.
 
I am sorry that it has taken me awhile to post on here. Even though I have not posted, I have been reading your posts. It has been a real hard battle for us since April when we lost Kelsey. I would have been due to have Kelsey in 2 weeks now or possibly had the baby by now. Please just keep us in your thoughts and prayers. Me being sick has put alot on my family. I honestly at first just thought that I had a virus. it started at the end of August. I waited a couple of weeks thinking that it would go away. (Obviously it didn't) I ended up at one of 4 hospitals. They gave me fluids, antiobiotics and pain meds, told me that I had a bad UTI and it had went into my kidneys. They sent me home and I didn't get any better. I then went to 5 specialists and in so much pain all the time that I could not do anything. My family and I thought that it might be my appendix but  they just kept saying that it was my kidney and they did find 2 cysts on my ovary. So, back to more meds of every kind and fluid and sent me home. I kept going back and forth to my doctor as well and she had me on alot of meds too hoping not to have to put me in the hospital as she was so afraid that I would get other sicknesses with my immune system being so low. When my doc could see that I was just getting worse, she called another hospital and told them to admit me, as you know they didn't and they just did what the other doc had done with meds and sending me home. That is the hopital that sent me home with my potassium so dangerously low. So... by now I have lost 30 pounds and can't move hardly, pick the kids up... nothing just lay in one spot... Finally went to the lst of 4 hopitals... that is when they found out that I had e-coli, pancriaitis, and those 2 cysts on my ovaries had ruptured. I was in so much pain. I don't remember a whole lot about my last stay as I was so out of it by then. My blood pressure was so low. My hubby thought that he would not be able to ever bring me home again. I stayed 5 days then came home (probably too soon), as my kids were a mess! They could not go to school, they were crying alot and it was just not a good thing. I knew that things were just going to get worse at home and the kids would get farther behind in school, so I came home to try to get back to a so called "normal" life. the doctors did say that it would take me over 6 months to get over the e.coli and all that I had. They aren't 100% sure what caused the e.coli as they have their different opinions. I am still going to keep in touch with 2 specialists (internist and urologists) The docs say that my gallbladder might have to come out and that it will take me awhile to get my energy back as my sickness went on so long. I am gradually getting my strength back. I don't have alot of time to rest as you all know that I have 5 kids and I keep another little boy alot for a friend of ours. Also my grandfather is really bad off right now. He has been in and out of the hopsital with double pnuemomia and congestive heart failure so, Needless to say with dance lessons for my daughter, school,taking care of the kids and my grandfather and my farm, and working the weekends there is no time for rest. My grandfather is currently in a rehab place but there is just me and my father looking after him. We have almost lost him twice and everything is touch and go with him. I am on call all the time with him as I can get him to do things no one else can do. I do think that being so busy has it's benefits as I think that it keeps my mind off of how much pain I am in physically and emotionally right now.  I do try to get rest when I can.
 
Thanks again for all of your thoughts, prayers and concerns. Please just keep us close to your heart and prayers as we need this. I keep you all close to my heart even though I have not had the chance to post like I wanted. I do hope that I will get the time and feel like posting more as i so have missed each and every one of you. But what are you made of?????????????????? With a fraction of what you've been through I would not be looking after anyone....I'd still be in bed. You amaze me and you make me feel tired just reading of all you have to do.
 
Do look after yourself as you have a lot of recuperating to do yet. Delegate some of that work!

But please, please, do take (at least some) care of yourself!!! Delegating some of your enormous load of work and responsibility is certainly necessary, and I do think you will find friends to help you out if you search for them. I have kept you in my heart, but I´m now going to light another candle for you and your family.

Joya sorry but Jude & Juliana are right you really need to take care of you first and first and foremost.Without sounding horrid you may well end up back in hospital or worse.Let others care for you it's needed so badly.Your children cried when you were in hospital this is 'normal' as I use to cry for my 'Mother' when she was away , but they would be devastated if they were to lose their Mummy.
 
Joya you are ill and it's so important for your children to have you in their lives for many many years to come.
 
Please rest and let your husband and your Mother care for you and your children.Your life is too precious to so many people but most of all to you.
 
Candles always burn for you and your loved ones.

I hope you'll take it to heart! We have a German proverb, "The jug keeps going to the well until it breaks." You wouldn't want this to happen to you! Even someone in the best of health couldn't do what you are doing! Please, look after yourself!
