Happy memory songs from childhood - 10/26/2009 1:09 PM ( #1 )
As suggested by Joeharmony.

My first "happy memory song from childhood" must surely be Lily Marlene. My Mother told me she sang me to sleep with it.

The next is undoubtedly "Music, music, music" although I'm not sure if it was this version as it was pre 1950. I learned to play it with one finger on the piano at age 3

One I so very well remember with great fondness, sitting on my Mother's lap in the rocking chair, after listening to "Listen With Mother" on the radio. This was the theme tune and my Mother sang "Mummy's little darling" along to the tune as we rocked.
Gabriel Faure 'Dolly Suite'

I would have included the Beverly sisters singing "The Mama Doll Song" but I couldn't find it on YouTube. I received this 78 record along with a very old wind-up gramaphone for my 7th birthday.

Nice thread well done Joe & Jude

I have a confession I don't remember any of these songs

Thursday and Sunday night were the best nights in our home because Top of the pops and the charts were on  I use to dance behind the sofa and sing away

Here are a couple  songs from my youth..

Dear Sandra,
It's not surprising you don't remember songs form the 40s !!

Thank you for the Wombles. Mike Batt wrote their songs and I LOVE Mike Batt.

Here is my favourite Mike Batt song, (perhaps apart from Barbara Dickson's 'Caravan') Obviously not from my childhood, but I was quite young.

Phew that's a relief!! I was not born until the 60's(late)

It's lovely to hear these songs though as you can never get enough 'ear candy'..

Some of the happiest music I remember from childhood are some of the hymns I sang at Primary school.

Here are my 2 top favourites from that time.

John Rutter has put a most beautiful new arrangement to  this one

and Eleanor Farjeon's beautiful poem sung here by Cat Stevens.

Last but not least...Crimond that I had sung at my wedding, where I very bravely sang the descant....all by myself, and I want this sung at my rememberance service

I also love 'Brother Jams' Air' which I sang solo at age 14.

I'd better stop now..

It does make you stop and think how important music is though.

I agree so much,
dear Jude . . .
music has so very much power . . .
it is one of my true, true loves.

To soften rocks, or bend a knotted oak."

I know this is not a song but it's 'music to my tummy'.
