Things we remember with pleasure from our childhood

I said in my other thread that it would be good to have a "Music we remember" thread, but I think it needs to be anything we can remember that made us happy when we were children. I'll start with this. It was on TV when I was seven, and only one family in my school class had a TV. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3hHQvkUhJo

I seem to be going down Memory Lane a lot lately! Must be a sign of getting older I started a "Music from childhood" thread last night because I could think of several songs straght away! We didn't have TV either until I was in my early teens, and I don't remember anything very special from it apart from when things like Pop Chart programs began!! Early on I was an ardent radio fan and remember things like 'The Goon Show', which we've already mentioned, and 'Journey into Space' also 'Life with the Lyons' which I remember with fondness. I loved Molly Weir who was in it. I suppose my fondest memories of radio are of BBC 'Children's Hour' from which I have many lovely memories. As well as being entertained with excellent drama, there were education programs too and introductions to classical music. I think it was a shame when it was axed. My favourite drama was the stories from "Jennings At School" by Anthony Buckeridge. The acting was wonderful and I was in hysterics! Something to look forward to. Here is the introduction music to Journey Into Space.... [link=http://www.originaloldradio.com/journey_into_space.html]http://www.originaloldr.../journey_into_space.html[/link] Jude

Well here's another one. I can remember singing this for the whole school in grade 1. There are lots of versions on YouTube, but I thought one with a boy soprano was appropriate. Bless This House I'm not sure if it was a good idea starting this thread. I've just found a Perry Como song I've been trying to find for years, and I'm balling my eyes out!! The good memories of my childhood got so swamped by the bad, and this is maybe the top or close to it. Perry Como - If If If they made me a king, I'd be but a slave to you . . . If I had everything, I'd still be a slave to you . . . If I ruled the night, Stars and moon so bright, Still I'd turn for light to you! If the world to me bowed, Yet humbly I'd flee to you . . . If my friends were a crowd, I'd turn in my need to you . . . If I ruled the earth, What would life be worth, If I hadn't the right to you! [ Instrumental Break ] If I ruled the night, Stars and moon so bright, Still I'd turn for light to you . . . If the world to me bowed, Yet humbly I'd flee to you . . . If my friends were a crowd, I'd turn in my need to you . . . If I ruled the earth, What would life be worth, If I hadn't the right . . . To you! I think that will do for tonight.

I'm not sure if it was a good idea starting this thread. I've just found a Perry Como song I've been trying to find for years, and I'm balling my eyes out!! Part of the reason is because you found it!! I think these things need airing Joe. There must have been a happy reason for you wanting to find this song. I still think these old 'crooners' from the 40s and 50s take a lot of beating, even if the words are a bit on the 'warm syrup' side. Warm syrup is nice and comforting. I like the song. Jude
