Candle Group: Child

Fabulous thread, Crystal! This is a wonderful place for every child who needs a candle lit for them. Every mom and dad who would like candles lit for their own kids would do well to post in this tread, as I have the feeling it will be going on for a while!

Much love to you!

Crystal, I wrote this some years ago. I don't know what became of her. There are children like these nobody knows about.

WILL YOU HOLD ME?

She came into my office
around lunch time,
a slender, blond girl
of about five or six.
I had seen her a
few times before.
"May I stay with you
for a while?" she asked.
I had things to do, but
she was not looking
to be entertained.
She sat and asked a
a question now and then.
After a silence she
had another question,
"Will you hold me?"
She found a place
on my lap, her head
against my shoulder,
my arms around her.
She closed her eyes
and didn't talk.
I was touched by
her need and her trust.
She was fed and dressed,
but her heart was hungry.
At least, she knew to ask
for what she needed.
I hoped she would place
her trust wisely.
After a while she was
satisfied, got up
and left quietly.

Edda
Peace and joy!

Dearest Edda,
Your words touch my heart, and as long as there are loving people like you to give the lonely and needy a hug or hold them when they need it then that gives me hope. Hope that there are more like you that work with children and are truly receptive to them. May you be blessed always by Gods loving touch, my prayers are with you. Much love and God bless.

Edda: That was a very touching piece you wrote. There are so many lonely and unwanted children and elderly people in our wolrd -- not to mention all those in between.

Your encounter with this little girl reminds me of an eight or nine year-old boy I met about twenty years ago. We were in a group and I could tell his mother liked me, but she was very, very drunk and I ended up taking a short walk by the water near Galveston Bay with him. It seemed he wanted to talk.

He told me his father didn't care for him because he never visited. I told him maybe his father had some problems and that his absence shouldn't be taken as lack of love, that maybe he would come around one day. Later he told me his mother was always picking up men and taking them home. All I could do is show him I wouldn't be one of those men. I gave them a ride home, made sure they were OK, and left -- although, sadly, his mother was trying to usher me into her room in front of him.

I still think of that little boy who is a grown man now. And I hope somehow I made a difference in his life, if only for a day. He was a great kid, and had he been my son, I would have been very proud of the way he carried himself.

I don't know, for some reason that little boy has never faded from my memory.

Just had to get it out.

Dear Crystal: Thanks for the link. I just visited it. Sometimes sick children such as these have an amazing perspective on life and can teach us much.

I pray these children heal, through Jesus Christ.

With love,
Emil

Emil, thank you for your story! These are those chance encounters we hope made a little difference in the lives of those we met. Somehow, we don't forget them, do they?
