RE: TODAY, I AM GRATEFUL FOR - 8/7/2007 8:45 PM ( #41 )
Some days, like today, it really hits me how grateful I am for the gift of music.  Today I was dreading a particularly tedious task, and decided to play some music while I did it.  It transformed the whole experience.  I was actually able to feel joy, reverence, silliness, all while I performed this tedious work.  At times I felt like dancing, and in this way reconnected myself with my body, after a day of pretty much ignoring it.  And I think sometimes of how many moments of feeling really connected spiritually were accompanied by music.  It's truly a vehicle of inspiration for me.

Today I am grateful for my car. It's gone to the mechanic's for a couple of days, and I'm missing it.

Yes, Artemis, I understand you perfectly - I´m always grateful for music! Living in the country of Mozart, Haydn, Schubert... I´m used to surrounding myself with their wonderful sounds. I feel they go directly to my soul.
Today I´m grateful for a "cyber" friend from Germany who is coming to visit with her daughter. This is the first time I´ll meet them. Guess how we started our correspondence? By reading each other´s messages on the "Gratefulness" website !

Namaste!

Today I am most grateful for all of you, Solomon, Artemis, Zenmember, J1937, your recent posts and all who have posted regularly under this topic. Each time I read your new posts, they help to remind me of ALL that I have to be grateful, much of which I had once again forgotten--Solomon, you reminded me that I too, need to commit to a diet, that I have cold water, a car, days off, loved ones--all to be grateful for. Artemis and J1937 you have reminded me of how much music has gifted my life. J1937-- How very special that this "cyber" site has brought about a new friendship for you. May the time spent with you and your new friends truly be blessed. Artemis, thank you for reminding me that all my "garbage" tasks can be made a little easier with music. Zen, I could almost hear the sounds of your raindrops.

You all are truly gift.[;)

Today, I am also grateful for being moderator of this forum. It brings me back here several times a day and helps me stay focused on gratitude. I am also grateful, in the midst of a horrible summer cold, for all those mornings that I woke up without all those nasty cold symptoms and never gave it a second thought.

With the heat well over 100, I am so grateful this evening that we have air conditioning and pray for those who don't.

Today I'm grateful for the wonderful fruits and vegetables of summer.  And I guess along with that, I'm grateful for the resilience of nature.  We had flooding rains, followed by relentless heat.  You wouldn't think anything could produce fruit in this climate this year!

Today I am grateful for good friends, beautiful weather, buzzard calls, the fact that I have a home and am about to get into my comfy bed with a cat to keep me company.

Solomon, may I borrow your impetus for change??? Right now I really could use it.

Artemis, you are right about the fruits and vegetables of summer, all the different berries, tomotoes picked fresh off the vine with salt shaker in hand and munching away in the middle of the tomato patch.

Richard, I am pleased you like this topic. I think I put it up because I so often need to be reminded of all that I have to be grateful for. Today, I feel more like the "mean little kid" who wants to stomp her foot and throw a fit rather than being the grateful adult

J, I am pleased you all finally have beauatiful weather. Every time I read about your Buzzards, I cringe--probably the whole mid-western American concept that the buzzards come after the "road kill" for lunch or dinner. I will need to learn an appreciation of their beauty from you.

Of course. The secret of getting things done is to do them NOW. Waiting another half minute while you finish your cup of coffee is another 30 seconds you haven't got time to do it in!

Today I am grateful that I have a lift to work.

Betty,
I do understand your reaction to the Buzzards. I don't know if you also see eagles, or what you think of them? I love eagles too, but I'm glad my 'little eagles' aren't real ones as I probably wouldn't have any cats left!

But my cats kill plenty of smaller birds and mice, which I also like, as do buzzards and other birds of prey.

J,

Just hearing it's very name, I am sure the humble dung beetle is truly indispensible. I hope you did not take offense at my comment about buzzards. While I understand the whole food chain of nature, whether they be eagle or buzzard or any other predatory animal for that matter, I am always grateful if I don't have to watch how they get their dinner. I have a very dear neighbor who gets ecstatic about all of nature's critters and creatures and just can't wait to bring her latest find over to show me. That's just one area where I am not sure I will ever grow enough to be comfortable with it. Thank you for trying to help me understand.

Solomon,

Thank you for your words of wisdom this morning! Today I am very gateful for them. Having a rotten cold just gave me another excuse to procrastinate until I read your post and decided I could finish that cup of coffee in the car while running all the errands that needed to be taken care of. Thank you!

I hope you're taking care of yourself, too, and not just errands!  Get some rest for that cold!

Good point! If you make yourself ill you'll be no use to anyone.

Today I am grateful that I get my car back.

Dear Betty,
No offence taken whatever. I don't see 'my' buzzards getting their food and wouldn't want to!! I get joy out of watching them soaring together in the sky above my house, and listening to their beautiful voices calling to each other.

If my cats bring their prey indoors (sometimes alive!!) I put them out straight away, and try to rescue any live victims. Many is the little mouse who has been popped into a shoe box and taken back into the field by my son. They are so beautiful - and my cats don't need to eat them, but it's nature.

Humans are very irrational aren't they? If my cats dared to catch a song bird I would get very cross, but if they bring me a rat I praise them!! So I try not to get cross with them nowadays. After all, I eat chickens and turkeys. I suppose I should be willing to kill them if I'm willing to eat them. Ho hum!!

Today I am grateful for yet more sunshine, and the fact that I am well.
Love J

I'm grateful that I got to play golf today!  I waited though all the dark and icy days of winter, just holding on until spring so I could play golf.  Then it rained.  And rained, and rained, and rained, and flooded, etc.  Now I don't even care that it's over 100 degrees.  Any day I can play golf is a good day!

Namaste Lori and Solomon,

Thank you for your concern. You reminded me of some very wise words that one of my former spiritual directors once told me-- We are told to love our neighbor AS ourselves; NOT BETTER THAN. He went on to explain how he so often sees women take care of everyone but themselves and how that can give a total imbalance to our own spirituality.

Thank you for your concern! It is much appreciated. Thank you also for the gentle reminder.

Solomon, I am glad you got your car back. May it serve you for many miles without the need for more repairs.

Lori, I hope you have many more days of golf before the ice and snow come back. It sounds like it truly feeds your spirit. With our heat index supposedly hitting between 105 and 110 today, ice and snow seem almost unbelievable.

May you have a blessed and restful Sunday.
