One GIANT leap for our friends, but please don't quit there! There are many Senators who oppose this bill; so PLEASE contact your Senators and tell them YOU VOTE and you want them to vote YES to HR503 and NO to any amendments. You can email them or even better call their office. Please urge ALL of your friends to do this, lets make our voices heard.

Thanks, Go4gin

Candles are burning low in HORSE the Candle Group to end horse slaughter. If you support ending horse slaughter call your Senator and ask them to cosponsor and vote for S 1915 and to get it on the floor right away for a vote. Please light a candle in HORSE for this issue.

Save the horses~

The HORSE candles have reached an all time low. Please help us keep them lit till all the horses are safe, the bill needs to be voted on in the Senate then signed by the president. The president has agreed to sign the bill if it gets on his desk. The NHC candles for the Nokota horses are very low too. They are in trouble this year due to the severe drought and still to not have enough hay to get them through the brutal winter months of North Dakota which can reach as low as 80 below 0 plus wind chills. Please, lets not let them down again. Nokota Horse Conservancy

Thank you for your letter regarding S. 1915, the Horse Slaughter Prevention Act. As you are well aware, S. 1915 would amend the Horse Protection Act to prohibit the shipping, transporting, moving, delivering, receiving, possessing, purchasing, selling, or donation of horses and other equines to be slaughtered for human consumption. You will be happy to know that I am a co-sponsor of S. 1915. This bill recently passes the House of Representatives, and I am hopeful it will be debated on the Senate floor soon.

Throughout my legislative career I have maintained a strong commitment to protecting the rights of animals. I am a co-sponsor of S. 304, the Sportsmanship in Hunting Act which amends the federal criminal code to prohibit knowingly transferring, transporting, or possessing a confined exotic animal for purposes of allowing the killing or injuring of that animal for entertainment or the collection of a trophy.

I was also proud to support the passage of P.L. 106-152, a law banning the interstate trade in "crush videos." Under this law, it is illegal to engage in the interstate commercial distribution of materials depicting animal cruelty, specifically the crushing of small animals by women wearing high-heeled shoes.

In recognition of my efforts on behalf animal rights, the Humane Society of the United States has awarded my voting record on animal welfare legislation a score of 100%. Although I am proud of the accomplishments made on behalf of animal rights in the 108th Congress, I am aware that there are still many animal welfare issues remaining to be addressed. Rest assured that during the 109th Congress, I remain strongly committed to protecting animal rights.

Again, thank you for contacting me. If my office can be of any assistance to you in the future, please do not hesitate to contact me again.

=this is the response i got from Senator Schumer

I got the same letter from Senator Schumer. I have been calling Senator Clinton almost every day, asking her to co-sponsor. My family has faxed, friends have called and faxed and still no decision.

I don't get it. :(
