All VICTIMS OF FOOD
-
11/5/2006 1:35 AM
Dear Lord in Heaven; Hear my prayer. Lord, I have become a victim of my own self indulgence - FOOD! When I sit down to eat a meal, it's always too much. I am ashamed to look at myself. I need your hand upon my mouth, to shut it when I feel the slightest fullness. Help me to stop over-eating. To consentrate on small portions, eating the right foods. Asking for your blessing before each meal/snack. To guide me to a more perfect body. Better eating habits and to encourge others to feel better about themselves; encouraging strength through prayer. I thank you Lord Jesus for all that I have; please help myself and others who truly want to lose this excess weight; Sweet Jesus, help "T" @ my office. She is trying very hard to lose the lbs. I want to see her succeed. Give her strength to fight all temptation. "T" is a beautiful person; Help us all to live a healther life; this gift of life that You have given each one of us, teach us not to abuse it. Lord hear my prayer; in Jesus name, Amen.

You are struggling with a difficult problem and a very common one. Innumerable books have been written and diets recommended. What I have extracted from all this are a few points, and some questions to ask: Why am I overeating? Often it is a case of comforting oneself when under stress. Under what circumstances? Some snack while watching TV. Perhaps knitting or needle work might help since this can't be done with sticky fingers. What is in my refrigerator and pantry? Get rid of unhealthy choices and don't buy them to begin with. How active am I? Almost everyone agrees that physical activity is essential for weight loss. Some join a gym, but walking is cheap and effective. A physician may need to tell what is safe considering what is appropriate for a particular individual. Joining a support group like Weight Watchers is very helpful to many. Some are used to cook for a large family. As the family shrinks the quantities become too large. Perhaps it helps to divide a dish into portions and freeze the extra since cooking small quantities seems inefficient, at least to me. I agree with Dr. Phil that weight control is not a matter of diet but life style. He also stresses that will power alone does not work, which is not what many have been made to believe. I have no weight problem at this time, but years ago I discovered I ate because I was tired; what I really needed was sleep. I also noticed that if I did not eat some snacks I really liked for some time that I lost my taste for them. Keep on praying for the Lord to help you, but the Lord wants us to use our resources to help make prayers come true. These are just a few suggestions. Perhaps some are helpful. Edda
