Contrasting the spiritual and physical life suggests a dualism I think, we should avoid. Dear Edda, Thank you for pointing to a thought that also crossed my mind when I found the quote by Tolstoy (in a collection of aphorisms which he called "Wise Thoughts for Every Day" and considered his "most important single contribution to humanity"). It was the poetic image of a bird flying which I was attracted to and which I consider an excellent metaphor for living a life of faith. He would probably express his thoughts in a different way if he were still alive today... With love, Juliana

Two thoughts went through my mind. Firstly that we can use our inner spiritual being to 'fly' with grace through our problems, and secondly, maybe we could 'fly' above the 'problem' and see it for what it really is. Jude

Thought For Today ‘We live in a culture of suspicion. The opposite of suspicion is trust. Trust is at the heart of things. There is no lasting relationship without it. Where it is weakened, relationships suffer. Where it is lost, relationships are broken, often beyond repair.’ ~Michael Duffy Trust is at the heart of everything in life. At the moment though, we are suspicious of all institutions including the banks, political parties, church leadership, property developers and so on. For many people they have been hurt and let down. It will take a while to build up such trust again. But it is the only way forward. Without trust we flounder and struggle. In our Gospels everything Jesus did was building up peoples trust. He encouraged them to let go of unhelpful and negative outlooks on life. He helped each person believe that there is always a new way and a better way. But for that to happen, each person must take a step forward and believe that it can happen. It comes down to trust. You must trust yourself first of all before anything can happen.

Thank you for the quote, dear Sparrow! This one is today´s Gratefulness Word for the day: The unthankful heart...discovers no mercies; but let the thankful heart sweep through the day and, as the magnet finds the iron, so it will find, in every hour, some heavenly blessings! Henry Ward Beecher Juliana

Thank you Juliana . . . This is so true . . . and so simple. Anyone who has taken the 'trouble' to be thankful can attest to this with love and gratitude . . . sparrow

Easily said, ever so much more difficult to make it come true. Something to aspire to maybe......make it an affirmation for each day. It's the intention that counts.

Thank you dear Jude, for sharing this . . . and reminding me of this gentle soul. It does take the burden off, Juliana, to know that what we can do is indeed good enough with love . . . sparrow

You simply will not be the same person two months from now after consciously giving thanks each day for the abundance that exists in your life. And you will have set in motion an ancient spiritual law: the more you have and are grateful for, the more will be given you. Sarah Ban Breathnach Simple Abundance

Thank you, Sandra and Sparrow, for two great quotes! There may be collectors of stamps, of coins, of owls (like my mother), of elephants, of I don´t know what --- but maybe collectors of quotes are the most passionate of all! Juliana
