"Don't go through life so fast that someone has to throw a brick at you to get your attention!" God whispers in our souls and speaks to our hearts. Sometimes when we don't have time to listen, He has to throw a brick at us. It's our choice to listen or not. sandra, thanks for posting this. i believe i've been just hit by a big brick...i have chosen to listen...i am sure things will get better...

Welcome to the forum, Felina! I have just searched this thread for the two quotes that you are referring to, but can´t find them. Perhaps you can tell me/us about them, as well as what you´d like to share about yourself. Juliana

Dear Felina, I, too, would like to welcome you to the forum! Yes, at times things happen that make us pay attention! If a gentle nudge won't do it, a brick may be needed, and as Jude says, it may not be to our liking! I hope you will return often and tell us more about yourself, if you wish. With every good wish and love, Edda

For those who celebrate Advent, this being the third Sunday called Gaudete = Rejoice, I would like to quote the second reading, since it is one of my favorite passages from the letters of St. Paul (Philippians 4:4-7): " Rejoice in the Lord always, I shall say it again: rejoice! Your kindness should be known to all. The Lord is near. Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus." Edda

thanks, lilsparrow. i have actually gone from pages 1 thru the end of the grateful living practice forum and the forum on gratitude-challenged (or is it gratefulness-challenged). i have also checked all pages of joe's forum. i am preparing for january 2010, and i pray it'll never arrive. my husband has recently been diagnosed with a major depressive disorder, and he has been having terrible mood swings, most commonly alternating rage episodes and sobbing episodes. he left his job in april (he is a graphics designer), and he's been like that since. he tried therapy and meds september to october, then stopped, saying there's nothing wrong with him. his childhood wasn't okay, and there is much anger against his family, his so-called friends, his employers, and against me. his main issues are issues of trust and neglect. lately, it seems like all the anger has been channeled solely towards me. there is no physical violence during the rage episodes, but there is so much verbal assault and insults during those times. i get so hurt! i just try to soften these blows by remembering he is sick. during sobbing episodes, he has suicidal ideation, and has twice attempted to take his own life. he feels that thru all these years together (since 1991), i have prioritized my patients more than him. and because of this "neglect", he now doesn't feel the same for me. (truth is, my clinic hours and hospital times are less than my colleagues because i try to spend time with him as much as i can; i have also waived all rights at the affiliated hospitals for decking of walk-in patients) he has packed and unpacked all his stuff all these months; this time he said he will just spend the holidays with me, then leave first week of january. when i ask him where he'd go and what he'd do, he still doesn't know, and that gets me worried. just thinking of january makes my heart hurt literally...and i cry. crying has helped me release the sadness all these months...and prayer, lots of prayer, even if at times i don't feel God's presence. sometimes i feel He's mad at me. like others, i ask "what did i do wrong?" i am glad i discovered you guys, that's why i have been copying/pasting your words of comfort and wisdom so i can read and re-read and re-read them in january when he leaves... i am still trying to understand why all this is happening, but then we'll never know the answer till later, right? i have learned to truly take life one day at a time, and now understand the importance of living today. hopefully, 2010 won't be as bad as i envision it to be. thank you all for being there. i need prayer warriors like you. felina

Dearest Felina . . . I am sorry that you are going through this difficult time. I wonder if the one thing harder than suffering such terrible depression, might be living with someone who is. I have been on both sides of this and know the hopeless and helpless way you must feel. Perhaps, given the dramatic mood swings, your husband may change his mind about leaving before the time comes. Is there some way that he can be brought back to treatment? A new therapist? A different clinic? It is a lot for you to be handling this alone, and I pray that you have support for you. I will light a candle for you and for your husband that peace and reason might be restored with love . . . sparrow
