gracchietto -> 150 years to the day (2/11/2008 2:48:14 PM)

150 years ago, today, the Virgin Mary appeared for the first time to a young girl in the French Pyrenées.

Lourdes would never be the same again.

I dreamt of being there myself, but it wasn't meant to be, I've been told the first bookings came in years in advance, with some luck I'll be there in late spring or early summer.

I know this is no dogma, if you openly say you don't believe it no one will chase you with accusations of heresy still I know I've heard many people say they went unbelieving and came back a different person.

I've been four times myself, and yes, every time I came back it wasn't the same Chiara as before.

Last time I was there almost three years ago the last Holy Mass ending at midnight at the grotto brought me some comfort, two weeks later I met a very special person in my life.

The previous occasion brought me the strength of mind I needed to make the biggest decision of my life, the one which would bring me to Belgium from my small town in Italy.

Mirales?

No, of course not, but in my small world yes, they were prodigies.

Our Lady chose a sick, ignorant young girl, to bring forth Her message of Lovem that same Love this poor world of the third millennium needs so much.

All the candles which are daily lit virtually here seem in my mind tonight be close to the thousands which will shine in the French night.

Thank you, Chiara, for sharing your personal experience of Lourdes. Marie posted on another thread a web site that will take anyone interested there  www.lourdes-france.org . The sight of thousands of real candles burning must be quite overwhelming. I have never been there.

Wishing you everything good,
Edda

Thankful one -> RE: 150 years to the day (2/11/2008 11:40:00 PM)

Chiara,
Thanks for your post. For what it's worth, I would certainly consider your experiences miracles and a major blessing.

I had heard Lourdes and the candles was a big thing, but I didn't really know how big until you got me thinking. I researched and found this photo. Is this something like what you experienced?

Hi,

yes, the Procession aux Flambeaux, the candles procession, is indeed a big thing, as far as I know it is a daily occurrence, when the weather is too bad or too cold, yes, the Pyrénées can be glacial, it is done in the underground basilica.

The picture you sent is one of a very quiet night judging from the free space available...

Last night there was a live special on Italian television, just imagine 70,000 people in full winter, and it did look cold despite this being a mild winter, each of them holding a candle, many of them on a wheelchair or a wheeled bed, it's early morning sorry, can't find the proper word.

I will post a picture as soon as I find one.

There is a live webcam on the site Edda gave, I would not be surprised if these people spent the night, the imagfes are from this morning right after six, roughly ten minutes ago. http://www.lourdes-france.org/webcam/videos/mariale/lourdes2.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.lourdes-france.org/index.php%3Fid%3D153%26contexte%3Dit&h=480&w=640&sz=32&hl=en&start=6&um=1&tbnid=vuzhC9gObp_odM:&tbnh=103&tbnw=137&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dlourdes%2Bprocession%2Baux%2Bflambeaux%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26rlz%3D1B2GGFB_itBE230%26sa%3DN
