There isn't any planned events that Team Nokota is holding except for Frank and Shelly coming from North Dakota to PA with horses, a casual and fun time. It's really fun when they bring horses and we watch them be released. A lot of us go to the person's house where the horses arrive and we watch them be unloaded after the long 33 hour non stop ride. Sometimes they stop a few hours into the trip in MN unless they are in a hurry like this time. The people are exhausted, the horses have had enough of the trailer and yet they load again without problem. Next stop, MA for the Equine Affaire Equine Affaire MA. If anyone is near MA you must go and meet them and there is supposed to be a Nokota horse there this year named Heart River. My forum Nokota Horse World has the Heart River story posted by his Mom. It's a journey to trust through love and determination. You can read about Megan's frustration with this wild young horse and the joy of winning him over. I will tell you, this is a typical though not easy Nokota story. The Nokota is eager to be friends but must know he can trust you. I have 3 of them, they are very interesting horses, not like domestic horses in so many ways, more intensely cautious, weary, but loyal, friendly, with a strong desire to bond and trust and then they blossom. Without the trust you have a disaster, we've seen that too and there are people that hate them. One trainer hates Nokotas, she started telling me why, but I hated to tell her it's her, not the horse, she's not suited to own one. At the same time she can't train him, a little girl in her barn rides him all the time and he wonderful, perfect for her and the owner who competes and teaches can't get him to do anything. I hear this kind of problem often enough while I've seen some people tell me how the horse has a heart of gold and will do ANYTHING they ask. It's night and day, all depending on how you treat them and if they like you. There are some individual horses that would fit this bill, not usually so extremely, and I would make this a blanket statement for Nokota horses. They want snuggly, respectful people and they know who loves them, without a doubt, then you can have your way with them. If you're anywhere nearby email me at nokotahorse4me@aol.com and let me know, maybe you can join us.
