J1937 -> RE: Today, I'm grateful for imagination... (2/29/2008 10:38:43 PM)

Thankful Once, at a quick glance the first two I found out were "once in a life time" and "the aftermath". (That´s funny - the only two of the first lot you didn´t find, Edda. It just goes to show that teamwork is best [;)]).

I have to go back to bed, though - a scratching woke me, which came from a strange cat that must have found its way into my house when I had the window open last night. It´s too early to be up [:D].

And, scrolling back, "Jack-in-the box" jumped at me...[:D]

Thankful one, I am still on the squares. There are a few more guesses;

Crossed eyes
age before beauty
eggs over easy
Mother Goose
step by step
fox in the socks
Upside-down cake
Peas in a pod
shot in the dark

I better stop before I imitate Juliana being up late!

Are the holes on the inside or outside?

Which horizontal line is longer?

Hold a ruler up to the screen and you will be surprised to discover that the lines are the same length. The illusion is achieved because the overall length of the drawing on the right is longer which fools the eye. Also, the circles in the figure on the left interrupt the line which distracts the eye.

When you move your eyes in a circular motion around this image, you will see what appears to be spokes moving around with your eyes.

Thanks Juliana and Edda,

You got several that had stumped me. I'm still working on some still though.

Thankful one

Look at lines A and B. Which one is bigger? They are actually the same size. This is because the size of objects is sometimes distorted based on the context in which they are seen.

The Peace Family are sitting at a round table ready to enjoy their Christmas dinner.

CLARE is two along from ERIC, who is sitting next to DAVID.
OLIVER is also sitting two along from ERIC.
Next to OLIVER is TANYA.
CLARE has TANYA on one side and STEPHEN on the other.

Where is everyone sitting?

No sunshine

On Christmas Eve, in the middle of the night, a woman woke up to find that it was snowing.
"I'm not surprised," she said to her husband.
"Well it is Winter," said the husband. "But I can confidently say that in 24 hours time, there will still be no sign of sunshine."

How can he be so sure?

That one is easy! It will be night again!

I love these sort of things.  Thanks for posting them Thankful one.  My guess at the squares are , Rock around the clock tonight, 2 thumbs up, broken heart, seeing red, i before e except after C, a shot in the dark, upside down cake, green eggs and ham, kneel and 2 peas in a pod.

Is the answer to where people are sitting at the table  IN A CHAIR? Makes sense to me. LOL

Thankful one -> RE: Today, I'm grateful for imagination... (2/29/2008 11:44:10 PM)

I know Marie has probably posted some of these.

What is so fragile that when you say its name you break it?

I have a tail, and I have a head, but i have no body. I am NOT a snake.

What has 4 wheels and flies?

What does an Island and the letter T have in common?

What falls, but does not break, and what breaks but does not fall?

What, when you take away the whole, you still have some left over?

What gets wetter and wetter the more it dries?

Give me food, and I will live; give me water, and I will die. What am I?

The man who invented it doesn't want it. The man who bought it doesn't need it. The man who needs it doesn't know it. What is it?

I run over fields and woods all day. Under the bed at night I sit not alone. My tongue hangs out, up and to the rear, awaiting to be filled in the morning. What am I?

Throw it off the highest building, and I'll not break. But put me in the ocean, and I will. What am I?

What can run but never walks, has a mouth but never talks, has a head but never weeps, has a bed but never sleeps?

A certain crime is punishable if attempted but not punishable if committed. What is it?

You use a knife to slice my head and weep beside me when I am dead. What am I?

I'm the part of the bird that's not in the sky. I can swim in the ocean and yet remain dry. What am I?

I am mother and father, but never birth or nurse. I'm rarely still, but I never wander. What am I?

I went into the woods and got it. I sat down to seek it. I brought it home with me because I couldn't find it. What am I?

I am weightless, but you can see me. Put me in a bucket, and I'll make it lighter. What am I?

I never was, am always to be,
No one ever saw me, nor ever will,
And yet I am the confidence of all
To live and breathe on this terrestrial ball.
What am I?

I'm light as a feather, yet the strongest man can't hold me for much more than a minute. What am I?

I am the black child of a white father, a wingless bird, flying even to the clouds of heaven. I give birth to tears of mourning in pupils that meet me, even though there is no cause for grief, and at once on my birth I am dissolved into air. What am I?

Pronounced as one letter,
And written with three,
Two letters there are,
And two only in me.
I'm double, I'm single,
I'm black, blue, and gray,
I'm read from both ends,
And the same either way.
What am I?

Thankful one -> RE: Today, I'm grateful for imagination... (2/29/2008 11:56:18 PM)

All of you have solved answers to the brain teasers that I was not able to figure out.

When someone tells you what they mean, I go, "Oh, yeah, now I get it."

I still have ones that continue to stump me so maybe someone else will help me with those.

Thankful one

Fill in the missing number.

Thankful one -> RE: Today, I'm grateful for imagination... (3/1/2008 12:36:05 AM)

Here’s a slightly modified version of an old brain teaser:
James: "Do you know, when the Jacksons married 18 years ago, Mr. Jackson was three times as old as his wife, and today he is just twice as old as she?"
Shirley: "Then how old was Mrs. Jackson on the wedding day?"

Missing number answer 592.
I dare the risk of being wrong. LOL

Thankful one -> RE: Today, I'm grateful for imagination... (3/1/2008 7:53:01 AM)

Marie,
I think you are right. The formula appears to be times four then plus four.

I think the answer to the one above is d. I think so because each horizontal row has one solid, one striped and one empty space.

I'm glad to hear that these puzzles have been fun for you all.

This math problem was hard until I just thought about it.

When asked how many nuts he had in his basket, a boy replied that when he counted them over 2 by 2, 3 by 3, 4 by 4, 5 by 5, or 6 by 6, there was 1 remaining; when he counted them by 7s there was no remainder. How many had he?

There are more than one answers to this question.

Thankful one

I finally found the seven dolphins in this picture.
