Thank you, God ...

©2007 Celeste Billhartz

The blessing of showers ... that's what I am thankful for. I thank God, each time I am blessed with a hot shower, my favorite soap, shampoo, conditioner, fluffy towels, warm bathroom, comb, a barrette for my hair.

I thank God for clean clothing -- my favorite t-shirts, jeans, and the sox I love to wear with my favorite shoes.

Each day I haul my old frame into the tub, turn on the water and feel so blessed to have a hot shower I say, "Thank you, God ... thank you."

And, each time, I wonder who is blessing homeless old women with hot showers and shampoo, with soft towels and clean clothes?

I envision portable showers and donated soaps and shampoos and towels and clothing. Surely, some group or other does that for the homeless. I hope so, because there is some measure of peace and healing .. a blessing ... in showers.

If I were homeless, that's what I would appreciate most, I think -- a safe place to go for a hot shower and some clean clothes. They wouldn't have to match or be the right size; just some clean clothes ... and maybe, a barrette for my hair.
.................

I just found this site and am so happy to be here! I have been looking for a community, a tribe. I hesitated to post so early in my getting to know you all, but I felt such a connection with the spirit of your site and my entry, above. Best to you all, Celeste

I love your idea of hot showers for the homeless. It conjures up a lovely picture.

Welcome to the Forum Celeste. And I totally get what you're talking about when you talk about being grateful for showers.

Today I'm thankful for this snowstorm, although I don't look forward to driving in it. I'm thankful for it because I am going to be at our local NPR radio station, WKSU-FM, in Kent OH ... answering the telephone to take pledges for our fund drive. More people usually call during bad weather because they are home and listening to the radio, instead of outside, or otherwise occupied. So, I decided I will be thankful for the snow, although I am soooooo over winter...:) CB

Jude, thanks for the welcome ... I finally figured out how to respond to posts. I hope your daughter is finding her way to clarity and courage. I'm sure your patience with her silence was most appreciated.

Solomon, thank you for your welcome, too. CB

Dear Celeste, I apologize for not welcoming you to the forum sooner. Little by little I am getting caught up on posts that I have missed. If you have read many of the more recent posts, you know that I welcome any and all snow. We finally had a good one (12 inches) Tuesday of this week but by Wednesday, it was almost all gone. The concept of hot showers and clean clothes for the homeless sounds really special. Showers and clean clothes can be such gifted spiritual reminders and prayer time for all Christians. Again, I apologize for being so tardy in welcoming you and look forward to future posts from you.
