Nokota horses are the featured breed and on the cover Nokota stallion Chief of Washington.  This is a well written article, a must read for Nokota lovers and supporters.  Many more photos inside magazine.

Thank you Hildegard, these horses have been endangered by the very people who were given the position of caring for them, the National Park Service.  They would all be scattered or gone by now if not for the efforts of 2 brothers Leo and Frank Kuntz.  The Nokota Horse Conservancy www.nokotahorse.org is doing it's best with whatever available funds they have in order to preserve these horses.

The Nokota benefit Breyer model horse is available to order.   Please check the gift store at www.nokotahorse.org or send them an email and inquire about how you can purchase a signed model as a collectable.  They are a limited edition model and only the ones purchased from the Nokota Horse Conservancy will be signed.  They will help the Nokota Horse Conservancy even more than ones purchased in a store.

PLEASE FORWARD AND CROSS POST

Greetings Nokota Horse supporters -    We have recently introduced a bill to the ND legislators regarding funding for a proposed Nokota horse sanctuary and living history museum.  It is Senate Bill #2272 and reads as follows:  A BILL for an Act to provide an appropriation for a Nokota horse living history museum and sanctuary.  BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF NORTH DAKOTA:  SECTION 1.  APPROPRIATION.  There is appropriated out of any moneys in the general fund in the state treasury, not otherwise appropriated, the sum of $50,000, or so much of the sum as may be necessary, to the department of commerce division of tourism for the purpose of supporting the creation of a living history museum and sanctuary for the honorary equine of North Dakota, for the biennium beginning July 1, 2007, and ending June 30, 2009.    The first hearing on this bill has been scheduled for Friday, January 26 at 10:00 AM.  We are asking for your assistance with this monumental task by sending an email to each of the senators listed below in support of Senate Bill 2272.  We would like to provide these committee members with factual and personal information about how these horses have affected this state and its population as well as the lives of you, our supporters.  These horses have made great impacts - historically mostly, but also personally, emotionally, therapeutically, etc, and they deserve this recognition.  The economic impact to ND has also been more than significant and we need these senators to know how many visitors have come here to ND specifically to see the Nokotas, how many times (if more than once), how much time and money (approximately) they've spent locally (motels, restaurants, car rentals, groceries, misc.), if they'll be returning and perhaps if it will become a regular visit, etc.  Anything you can think of to help us persuade the legislators that the creation of a Nokota horse living history museum and sanctuary is a GREAT idea!!     We know we can count on your support and thank you in advance for all your help with this HUGE endeavor!! Sincerely, Frank Kuntz Bill Sponsors:Senator Robert Erbele, Bill Sponsor - rerbele@nd.govSenator Tracy Potter, Bill Supporter - tpotter@nd.gov Committee Members:Senator Dick Dever, Chairman - ddever@nd.govSenator Dave Oehlke, Vice Chairman - doehlke@nd.govSenator Robert Horne - rhorne@nd.govSenator Judy Lee - jlee@nd.govSenator Richard Marcellais - rmarcellais@nd.govSenator Carolyn Nelson - cnelson@nd.gov

The bill to fund the Nokota Horse Conservancy did not pass.  They were refused a mere $50,000 which they did give to Cowboy Hall of Fame to display their memorabelia.  I guess they prefer to preserve things rather than living and breathing flesh and blood.  I think they need their priorities corrected. URGENT-HAY NEEDED NOW FOR NOKOTA HORSES IN NORTH DAKOTA-PLEASE HELP.
