Good morning everyone,

when I checked my email this morning I got the following message supposedly coming from a member of this community:

Greetings,

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ the Prince of peace and the KING of kings.

I am Benete Adela a 25 years old christian girl, I don't have a computer of my own, a missionary from France allowed me to use her computer since she can't help me in any other way.

I am a Victim of war in (COTE D'IVOIRE) Africa, I do have a small shop before the war where I make my daily bread but unfortunately the REBELS came and destroyed all my things and set fire on houses including my shop, I lost my shop.

I am writing you this mail to request your prayers and help in any way the Lord lay in your heart, to feed and clothe myself and if possible to re-start my little poultry farm again again and I know that the Lord shall bless you in return for doing this, If you can't help me financially I will be glad if you can help me in any other way that seems good to you.

I am recently living with my pastor where we are about 9 people living in a single room. Anything that the Lord lay in your heart for me will really be of a great HELP at this point in time as I am seriously going hunger,Please kindly let me know the help you can be able to render me so that I can send you where to send it.

I will be expecting your response. May the Lord bless you abundantly and grant you success in all your dealings.

NB: If you have doubts I will send you my PHOTOGRAPH and the contacts of my pastor for you to contact him and confirm things from him directly.

It sounds like the usual scam and it angers me to no end.

I do a lot of charity, but I want to be the one to choose whom and how.

I know this forum to be a serious and caring one, so the best option I can think of is that someone among us got a virus of sorts or that there is a hole in the security of email addresses registered on it.

I am not accusing anyone, mind you, I just thought I'd let you know unless of course you are already aware of this.

Dear Chiara,
A few weeks ago I had a similar email from Africa. I alerted the moderators and they barred the person from logging on.

It's a shame that this site is used for these scams, but I'm sure everything possible is done to avoid them. Anyone, anywhere in the world, can log on to Gratefulness and send members an email.

I'm sure that, as soon as they realize they are recognised for what they are, they will not try again. We just need to stay vigilant.

Dear Chiara, I, too, received this e-mail and others have as well. I just contacted Margaret to see if this person can be blocked from abusing her(?) membership. Members don't get our actual e-mail addresses unless they e-mail us first (rather than send a PM) and we respond directly by e-mail. Actually, her first e-mail to me landed in the spam folder. Yes, it is sad that these things happen and I wonder what drives people to do these things.
