My partner Julie's dad died yesterday morning.  He was only 65, and died of hepatic encephalopathy, which is where the liver can no longer remove toxins like ammonia from the body and they build up in the brain until it finally shuts down.  A lifetime of drinking, and continuing to drink, despite being told very clearly that if he didn't stop it would kill him.  And it did, surprisingly quickly, in the end.

Julie sat with him all night, and it was extraordinary to witness the love she felt for him, to feel it flow out from her.  I'm absolutely sure it eased his journey, because when we arrived at the hospital he was very aggitated, with lots of jerking of his body, and crying out, but within an hour he had settled, and in the end his passing was as peaceful and gentle as one could hope for.

So his last hours were filled with unconditional love, and his soul was washed clean by it.

How blessed am I to have this beautiful person in my life.

Dear Joe,

My deepest sympathy to Julie on the loss of her father. Yes, you are blessed to have someone like her in your life. It must have pained her a great deal to see him continuing in behavior that shortened his life, yet she gave him her unconditional love.

Much love and warm hugs to you and Julie,
Edda

Joe,
It is inspiring to hear how Julie was able to be there in a very meaningful way with her dad.

Every human deserves a good death and it sure sounds like he had the best one available to him.

It is wonderful that Julie is that kind of person and that you are partners.

Here's a photo to bless your partnership with Julie.

Dear Joe,

I send condolences to Julie on the death of her father. What an inspiring story! Julie certainly is a special person. I'm sure her father's passing will be less painful to her in the long run because she knows in her heart she did all she could for him......with love.

Dear Joe,
I am deeply impressed by what you have told us. Feeling sorry for Julie on the loss of her father, I also think she will treasure the memory of the time she was granted to have with him when he passed. I am reminded of the passing of my aunt and of my mother. I was blessed to be with them and witness how they became calm and peaceful at the end of their lives. Finally there was such a dense atmosphere of love and peace that it cannot be described. Give my love to Julie.

Dear Joe, Please extend my deepest sympathy to Julie. Your posts about her have always mentioned what a very special person she was in your eyes. Your story about her father's final hours truly verify that. For her to be that unconditionally loving, forgiving and accepting must have eased her father's journey home tremendously. It truly sounds like you have found a very special partner. Please let her know that she and all of you will be held in love and prayer.

Gentle hugs and prayers to both of you.

We often speak of the miracle of birth and forget that death is just as much a miracle.

Take a moment to enjoy these images, rj

Thank you, Richard, for these rich iimages. I like especially the interplay between light and darkness, and, of course, the cute animal pictures!

Have a great day,
Edda

Thank you Richard, that was lovely, in spite of the inevitable hiccups due to dial-up & my slow PC.
