Good question Joe;  But, let's remember, Jesus and Sidhartha were ordinary folk like you and I.  We are each of us Manifestations of God.  As such, we each have the power and responsibility to develop our resources and right the wrongs we see. "Be the change you want to see in the world"; a close approximation of Ghandi's quote.

And George, don't take any of this personally, I don't !!  I just wanted to emphasize that each and every person living on this planet longs for connection with the devine, not just those who are organized into sects or religions.

And Edda; good point.  We all need to balance our priorities at the same time.

gassho to all, rj

Hi Joe,
I have the same dilemma really, but like Edda I strongly believe we need beauty in our lives - even (or more especially) the poor. In fact in history, the poor have given more of their money than the rich to build or restore buildings like cathedrals. It does seem unethical to us in some ways, but our lives would be less rich without beautiful buildings, either to look at or worship in or live in.

I also think of the craftsmen who used their skills to build such buildings, often risking or losing their lives. Mankind needs art.

I do have problems with some churches who hang on to their money rather than using it to help people.

Not an easy one.

Jude
