According to Freud et al., there are two basic instinctual drives, Thanatos and Eros, love of life (biophilia) and love of death (necrophilia); and these two primordial drives are forever warring with one another, i.e., as oppositionally contending, clashing forces, eternally seeking reconciliation, creative, integrative rapprochement. And at this point in our historical process it behooves us, more than ever before, to come to terms with life-and-with-death or else we surely die. To be or not to be! is truly the existential quest. In our struggles toward self-actualization it is essential to experientially tap into Essence or Presence - in esse - as we gradually move from our false persona or egoic self (mask, illusory self) which basically is in posse (possibility) & needs to be awakened, transformed, integrally, dynamically. When Essence or Presence is tapped into it can be progressively integrated and unified, as synthesis, in order to evolve in our levels of development or being/consciousness from unhealthy thru "average or normal" - which too often is simply a "pathology of normalcy" - till optimal health, full-functioning humanness is finally attained. In group/individual therapy sessions this therapist deals w/ Personality testing, MMPI, MBTI, Enneagram, as well as giving an overview of Projective/Intelligence tests, Rorschach, TAT, WAIS (Weschler Adult Intelligence Scale)...w/ clients whom are at the unhealthy end (self-destructive of self & others) of the continuum/spectrum, suffering from AODs (alcohol-&-other drugs), often coexisting/comorbid w/ mood/conduct disorders. There are even extreme cases, for instance, that disclose how they had been dabbling in death-orientation, such as necrophilia, fantasies, self-mutilation, bleeding, sadomas relations, drinking blood, however, everything dramatically changes when their whole perspective suddenly & miraculously evolves spiritually & they become substance-abuse/dependence free, liberated, the desideratum; toward developing a biophilic, generative orientation in becoming self-actualized, healthy, fully functioning... The goal, therefore, is to move positively in the direction of recovery, and meaningful unfolding of one's optimum Self, as one integrates & unifies one's self, constructively - holistically - productively thru hope & healing...
