I have appreciated for some time the opportunity to light candles on line but today as I looked through the candles for Senator Hilar Clinton I was saddened to see that the tone of some of the messages was far from encouraging and supportive. I am concerned that there is no administrative monitoring of these posts.

Welcome to the forum Judith!
Thank you for your concern! I am sorry that you have found candles that offend you. You can contact administration by clicking on Pat or Margaret who can remove truly offensive candles. They would have to have more information such as the group or the signature on these candles. However, if you look at the number of candles lit, which goes into the thousands, you can see how difficult it would be for them to check every message. I am sure they appreciate the help of concerned people like you.

I hope you will visit often and share with us your insights and wisdom.

Wishing you everything good,
Edda

I too have noticed with concern and dismay the number of hateful and otherwise inappropriate messages in the hrc group, and I've written to Margaret about it.  I understand that not all candles can be monitored, but it is clearly this particular group, due to it's "political" nature, that attracts what are probably just a few angry persons who feel the need to abuse this space.  Margaret is apparently out of town but said she will look at this situation when she gets back.  Meanwhile, my suggestion would be for all who feel saddened by these angry messages to go and lighten up that forum with messages of love and peace for ALL!

Welcome to the forum, Beverin! I really appreciate your helpful information including the name of the candle group. Thank you for notifying Margaret. You are right, there are ever so often people who find some satisfaction in posting hateful or otherwise inappropriate messages. They must be very unhappy people!

Your suggestion to post messages of peace is a good one.

I hope you will visit often and continue to share with us your experience and wisdom.

Wishing you everything good,
Edda

That is a good idea Beverin. The candle-lighters in question are obviously VERY young and unenlightened. We should not get angry with them as they are more to be pitied for their ignorance and lack of concern for others.

No, but it makes me a little sick to see the mess of hate messages which this particular group has disintegrated into (at last viewing.) I really do hope someone gets around to cleaning it up SOON!  This is a terrible example of the abuse of a open forum that is meant for prayer and support.  It's a quite disheartening.

I agree Beverin, but don't be disheartened. To give the abusers too much attention will maybe make them worse! They want to shock...that is why they do it.
And that is also what happens when people express political opinions. Politics and politicians go over my head these days as all they do is quarrell and 'sling mud' at each other. We don't have to join in. They will get fed up with being ignored.

Take heart from all the other genuine and loving candle sites.

Jude, you are right, but we don't know how many people see these hateful, insulting messages and wonder why they remain. I just sent a PM to Pat to see what can be done. It is sad to see such abuse of a candle site. Political opinions may differ but that does not justify name-calling ANYWHERE.
