There's a certain kind of knowing that comes only from doing. If you live gratefully, recognizing the good when you have a cup of tea or a comfortable seat or a friendly conversation or an opportunity to help someone, then you can learn what it means to enjoy life. When something difficult comes along, you will then more easily be able to find your orientation: to turn fear into courageous trust, agitation into stillness, isolation into a sense of belonging, and irrational reaction into common sense. The creative imagination of gratefulness will suggest to you how to live well no matter what your circumstances.
