There are those days when I've overslept, and one thing after another goes wrong. It seems like “the harder I try, the ‘worser’ it gets, from getting up late, to spilling the milk, to the wet clothes that I was going to wear still being in the washer, to the gas tank reading empty, to getting stuck in traffic. Once it has begun, I just want to go back to bed and take that particular day off the calendar.

(Amazing—just to move one muscle in one part of my body to get out of bed, the message travels from my brain to that ONE muscle at a speed of about 4350 inches (363 feet) per SECOND. How many muscles do I move to get out of bed?? How many of those 363 feet per second messages does the brain have to send for me to stand, sit, walk, etc.? I can think, breathe, see, walk, talk, hug, laugh, cry, feel, smell, taste, etc. Thank you God, for I am wonderfully made.

I have a house with a bedroom and bed, milk to spill, clothes to wear, electricity to run a washer and dryer, clean water to wash clothes, a car to drive. Thank You Giver of all things, for the gift of awareness to see all that You have given me.

The more I practise Gratefulness, the more I find to be grateful for.  Grateful for all the little gifts.

Sometimes, when things go wrong for me, I find that it has been for the best in the long run, although I don't always see it in that way at the time.

It seems to me that one of the lessons I'm supposed to learn is that sometimes the lesson is in not 'trying harder,' but to allow it to be. For many, many years waking up late for work or school was overwhelming; my entire day consumed and used before I've even tried to do something positive with it. Lately though, if I'm late, I don't rush to make up the time; I just allow it to be lost. After all, it is. What I can do is put a little extra energy into something else that day because I shouldn't waste precious energy on lost time that can never be 'made up.' That's the day when I have to call that one friend I haven't spoken to in months (hey, if I truly feel a loss of time, it seems I spend the time I have more wisely ;) or pick up some trash that I pass by or donate a dollar to something worthy. It helps me feel better and it's kinda like a reminder from the Spirit to be grateful... and flexible.

Dear Imenuff,
If I did not know better I would think you have written a day in my life!!!!

But I have found i can be grateful for MURPHY'S LAW.

At the end of my Murphy day, I think about it.............. now who is to blame for this day and all that happened????? Where did all this upset and anger come from???? who started all this turmoil????? and in the end my most important question WHAT CAN "I" DO TO CHANGE IT????

And to top it off my Murphy Day ends with laughing at myself..

So I'm truly grateful for my Murphy days and for the ability to see who is to blame and how to change and most of all for the maker of laughter!!!!!

So put that day back on the calender Imenuff!!!!!!! It's a wonderful day after all.
God Bless
Your friend and Murphy's pal,
Bluemoon

Dear Bluemoon,

Welcome to the Forum. Thank you for sharing your Murphy's Law days. Over these many years, I, too, have found "those" days to be real gift. When I am willing to be open to these experiences, instead of focusing on all that is going wrong, they immediately remind me of all those "simple" little gifts that I so often forget or take no notice of--just "little" things like having a computer, access to the internet, places like this website where when we are struggling, we can obtain support, and when others are struggling, we can support them. "Those" days remind me of all the giftedness in the functions of the human body that I take so for granted, would complain horribly about if I didn't have them, and yet so seldom utter a "thank you" for their proper functioning.

I couldn't agree with you more that "Murphy's Law" days are real gift. When I allow it, they always remind me of the countless things in my life that are so freely given as "Jelly side up" and yet I neglected to be grateful for them.

May we all learn to have a good laugh at how seriously we take "those" days, and how funny they actually are when we look on them from the outside.

May we continue to be LAUGHING Murphy's Pals.

I find that most of the time, it's a matter of attitude. Fear and excitement are the same thing, biologically. It's only the name we put on them that changes how we react to them.

Solomon,

You are so correct--most of the time, it is just a matter of attitude. I know that I personally have not yet reached that point of strength of character where I am consistently able to put the correct name on something and thereby follow through with the correct attitude.

Thank you for your insights

Hi Solomon,

What kinds of goodies are you growing now to share with all your co-workers? Finally got back to this and your previous post.

"Join the club. But isn't it such fun working to get there???"

Some days, I am not sure I would call it fun!! Sometimes, I feel much more like the "mean little kid" who just wants to stomp her foot and say, "It's not Fair." I don't know about you, but there really are times when I just don't want to bother putting forth the effort to change my attitude. Thank you for reminding me though, that it is a choice that I am always free to make.

May you be blessed for all your gifts from Mother Earth that you so willingly share

Thank you all for your posts. The past week and a half has abounded in all kinds of semi-serious problems gathering speed and all landing on our doorstep almost at once. Going back and re-reading many of your posts has reminded me that "this too shall pass."

Please tuck in your prayers two relatives of a very dear friend who are each fighting very serious cancer and in the midst of real "Murphy's Law" periods in each of their lives.

Your friends are in my thoughts and prayers.

When I'm having a Murphy's Law day (or moment, because it seems like they come in moments to me instead of days), I notice that I'm really trying to do too many things at one time.  For example,  I might be carrying too many things, almost "asking for it" because I'll probably drop something.  Or trying to remember too many things on my "to do" list at once, increasing the chance that I'm going to forget something.  I've come to appreciate those, because they remind me to slow down.  It's not like it really saves me any time anyway.  I just wish I could remember more often without these "lessons."

Thank you for your prayers for my friend's relatives. Cancer is as cancer is. It seems like they barely pass one milestone on their road to recovery and another one pops up. Please continue your prayers for them.

Prayers for you friend's family, I'menuff.

As far as Murphy's Law goes, I have learned that I can start my day over anytime I want to. When I forget to take the time to say HI to God and ask for His help for the day, everything that can go wrong, does.

My life goes so much better when I make time for Him. Something else I have learned is that I can do this anywhere, the car, work, the grocery store. I can talk to God while I am driving to work or the store-the bathroom is a wonderful place if you need some privacy. It was a standing joke at one place I worked, I would announce that I was going to the bathroom, grab my meditation book and disappear for a few minutes.

Hope everyone is having a beautiful Labor Day.

Love, Lyla

Thank you Lyla for that great piece of wisdom.

There is an ancient verse from the River of God that goes:

" Know him to be enshrined  within your heart
Always. Truly there is nothing more
To know in life. Meditate and realize
The world is filled with the presence of God."

Truly, this is the highest mystical teaching.

Dear Lyla, I am so glad that you, too, found the gift of the bathroom. Sometimes it is a very special prayer place. For those who are Christians, taking a shower often reminds me of kind of a renewal of Baptism, the washing away of the yuck and beginning clean again. It has often times resulted in a powerful meditation. May you be blessed.
