My name is Helen and I have been using this beautiful site for a while now to light candles in memory of my big brother Andrew who we lost to cancer in May last year. I have recently been told that my boyfriend Peters deployment to Iraq has been brought forward from June 07 to 4/5/07 (tomorrow). He will be out there for 6 months. I haven't been away from him for that long before and I'm not sure how I am going to cope. The first anniversary of Andrews death is 26th May and I've got to get through that now without the man I love beside me. I am trying to be brave for Peter and not let him know I'm struggling but it's so hard. He has been there for me and supported me (and put up with me) throughout the past year, and I worry about how I'll cope without him. And I love him and I dont want him to be in danger! But I have no choice. He has 2 brothers (Michael and James), and a nephew (John) who will be out there as from Friday 4th May as well. His mother is worrying herself sick, but who wouldn't?

I have started a candle group called Peter and I would like to invite anybody to light a candle on it.

Or maybe we could start a group for anybody who has loved ones out there?
I will light a candle every in support of all our troops to keep them safe

Dear Helen, I am so sorry that you now will have to manage without your boyfriend at your side. I'll be glad to light candles for him. I also will light candles there to include all others in harm's  way as I have been doing for Joel who is also leaving for Iraq leaving behind Shannon and their three children. This is such a difficult time for so many!
Wishing you strength and hope,
Love, Edda

Hello Helen and Edda,

My son is in the United States Air Force.   He served in Iraq in late 2003 and into 2004.   His wife Dana who is also AF left yesterday for Iraq.    I started a candle group USAF - but also dedicate it to all who are serving.   May God watch over your loved ones and all who are away from their loved ones.

Debbie, thankyou for your support and candles, I have been lighting one for Joel whenever i'm online. What a great way of supporting each other? I am getting a bit confused about who's who though, so, if I'm lighting one for Joel, is it a group called 'Joel'?
I know there is another group called USAF and that is for a woman named Dana and I have been lighting them on there for all of our troops.
If anyone else has family out in Iraq and wants candles lit for them, please post the group name on here and I would be more than happy to light a candle for them when I'm online.
Thankyou to all who have been lighting candles for Peter x

Helen, I just noticed your post. The group "Joel" has been going for quite some time. It is for Debbie's son Joel. The other groups I know of are yours "Peter" and "USAF". I have been lighting candles on all of them including everyone else in harm's way.
Thank you for your thoughtfulness,
Edda

dearest helen,

today is my first day on this website and your thread was the first to catch my attention. i am the proud daughter of an operation iraqi freedom veteran.  my dad volunteered to go to iraq in febuary of last year. his tour of duty lasted about three months, which i know isn't very long considering the time some of our troops remain overseas (but, trust me, it's long enough!!). everyday, i lived in fear and nightmares plagued my dreams at night.  he returned safe and sound four days before my 28th birthday, the best birthday present i have ever gotten.  i will be more then happy to light a candle for peter and all of the troops who are currently serving overseas. and when you are able to talk to him again, whether by phone or e-mail, please tell him i said thank you for serving his country so proudly. i know my dad is proud and would gladly go over again if needed.

my thoughts and prayers are with you, peter, and your families,
dawn

Dear Dawn,
Thankyou for your post. It is indeed unbearable to have a loved one so far away and in a hostile place, our minds do play tricks on us. I have been having the dreams etc you mentioned, but I try to push them out and carry on as normal as that is what I promised Peter I would do. I am keeping busy while he is away and I have enrolled on a summer college course to occupy the mind. Thank you for your kind words, it is encouraging to know you were going through last year, what I'm going through now and there is light at the end of the tunnel. I'm glad your Dad came back safe and well as I'm sure Peter and his brothers will. I will be sure to pass on your thankyou to Peter when I speak to him on Friday, and please, pass my regards on to your Dad who I'm sure you are very proud of. Take care x

God's speed to Peter & all our troops.

As I arise today, may the strength of God pilot me, the power of God uphold me, the wisdom of God guide me. May the eye of God look before me, the ear of God hear me, the word of God speak for me. May the hand of God protect me, the way of God lie before me, the shield of God defend me, the host of God save me. May Christ shield me today... Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me, Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ on my right, Christ on my left, Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit, Christ when I stand, Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of me, Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me, Christ in every eye that sees me, Christ in every ear that hears me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Hi, my name is Joy.  I recently had my son (my hero) deploy to Iraq with the 82nd Airborne Division.  I find myself struggling to face the reality of his presence there but he says this is what he was born to do.  His grandfathers were military and he chose to carry out this family "tradition"?  I'm so proud of all of our men, women and yes...children in the military.  They chose to put themselves in harms way to protect us.  I guess I'm still unsure of this whole sitiuation our country is in but as long as our guys are there I support them with prayer everyday.  May God Bless them and return them to us safely!

My daughter Helen started this thread for her boyfriend Peter, his brothers Mick and James, and his nephew John who were all deployed to Iraq in the same week in May.  During that same week, Debbie's son Joel, was also deployed.  Please light candles for these young men, and for all of our loved ones serving overseas, that they may be returned home safe and sound to their loving families.

Thank you Marie.  I truly appreciate your including my Joel.  I think of Peter his brothers; nephew & of course Helen everyday.  What a hardship on all of us.  I pray they'll all be home soon.
Peace be w/you & your family.

I am also new to this board but yesterday I came across another candle group name "iraq" that had only 1 candle lite. I started lighting candles as fast as I could and let a couple of other people in my area know about the site.
Now that I know of these sites I will keep a candle burning for all on these new sites.
Thank you so much for all that your loved ones are doing for us.

God Bless you.

Hi, this weekend 200+ of our Green Mountain Boys from Burlington,Vermont were deployed again for the 2nd time to Iraq. Would you be so kind as to add them to your Iraq list? I will continue to light candles for the names listed and Joy I will continue to light a candle for your son.
Thank you so much.
