A Son's Letter to His Father

Dear Dad,

It is with a heavy heart that I write this letter.

I decided to elope with my new girlfriend Tamara.  We wanted to avoid a scene with you and Mum.

I've found real passion with Tamara and she is so lovely - even with her nose piercing, tattoos, and her tight motorcycle clothes.

But it's not only the joy Dad, she's pregnant and Tamara said that we will be very happy.

Even though you won't care for her as she is so much older than me, she already owns a trailer in the woods and has a stack of firewood for the whole winter.

She wants to have many more children with me and that's now one of my dreams, too.

Tamara taught me that marijuana doesn't really hurt anyone, and we'll be growing it for us and trading it with her friends for all the cocaine and ecstasy we want.

In the meantime, we'll pray that science will find a cure for HIV so that Tamara can get better; she sure deserves it!

Don't worry Dad, I'm 15 years old now and I know how to take care of myself.

Someday I'm sure we'll be back to visit, so you can get to know your grandchildren.

Your ever loving son,

Eddie

P.S. Don't worry Dad, none of the above is true. I'm over at the next door neighbor's house. I just wanted to remind you that there are worse things in life than my end of year school report which is in the centre drawer of my desk. I love you!

Call when it is safe for me to come home.

Today is the Best Day of My Life
Today, when I awoke, I suddenly realized that this is the best day of my life, ever!
There were times when I wondered if I would make it to today; but I did!
And because I did I’m going to celebrate!
Today, I’m going to celebrate what an unbelievable life I have had so far: the accomplishments, the many blessings, and, yes, even the hardships because they have served to make me stronger.
I will go through this day with my head held high, and a happy heart.
I will marvel at nature’s seemingly simple gifts: the morning dew, the sun, the clouds, the trees, the flowers, the birds.

Today, none of these miraculous creations will escape my notice.

Today, I will share my excitement for life with other people. I’ll make someone smile.

I’ll go out of my way to perform an unexpected act of kindness for someone I don’t even know.
Today, I’ll give a sincere compliment to someone who seems down.
I’ll tell a child how special he is, and I’ll tell someone I love just how deeply I care for them and how much they mean to me.
Today is the day I quit worrying about what I don’t have and start being grateful for all the wonderful things God has already given me.
I’ll remember that to worry is just a waste of time because my faith in God and his Divine Plan ensures everything will be just fine.
And tonight, before I go to bed, I’ll go outside and raise my eyes to the heavens.
I will stand in awe at the beauty of the stars and the moon, and I will praise nature for these magnificent treasures.
As the day ends and I lay my head down on my pillow, I will thank the Almighty for the best day of my life.
And I will sleep the sleep of a contented child, excited with expectation because I know tomorrow is going to be the best day of my life, ever!

Sometimes we wish our path would be straight and easy to predict but the most beautiful trees sometimes are the ones that grow in their own unique way.

LORD, PROP US UP
Every time I am asked to pray, I think of the old deacon who always prayed--

Lord, prop us up on our leanin' side.

After hearing him pray that prayer many times, someone asked him why he prayed that prayer so fervently.
He answered, 'Well sir, you see, it's like this...I got an old barn out back.
It's been there a long time, it's withstood a lot of weather, it's gone through a lot of storms, and it's stood for many years.

It's still standing. But one day I noticed it was leaning to one side a bit.
So I went and got some pine poles and propped it up on its leaning side so it wouldn't fall.

Then I got to thinking about that and how much I was like that old barn. I've been around a long time.

I've withstood a lot of life's storms. I've withstood a lot of bad weather in life, I've withstood a lot of hard times,
and I'm still standing too. But I find myself leaning to one side from time to time, so I like to ask the
Lord to prop us up on our leaning side, cause I figure a lot of us get to leaning, at times.

Sometime we get to leaning toward anger, leaning toward bitterness, leaning toward hatred, leaning toward cussing, leaning toward a lot of things that we shouldn't.

So we need to pray,

'Lord, prop us up on
our leaning side, so we will stand straight and tall to glorify the Lord.

When I say... 'I am a Christian' I'm not shouting 'I'm clean livin''
I'm whispering 'I was lost, Now I'm found and forgiven.'

When I say... 'I am a Christian' I don't speak of this with pride.
I'm confessing that I stumble and need Christ to be my guide.

When I say... 'I am a Christian' I'm not trying to be strong.
I'm professing that I'm weak and need His strength to carry on.

When I say.. 'I am a Christian' I'm not bragging of success.
I'm admitting I have failed and need God to clean my mess.

When I say... 'I am a Christian' I'm not claiming to be perfect,
My flaws are far too visible but, God believes I am worth it.

When I say... 'I am a Christian' I still feel the sting of pain..
I have my share of heartaches, so I call upon His name.

When I say... 'I am a Christian' I'm not holier than thou,
I'm just a simple sinner Who received God's good grace, somehow!

I recieved this in an email and wanted to share it here.  Hope you enjoy it. I thought it was a very powerful message. Hope you enjoy it.  Jessica

The Fern and the Bamboo.....

One day I decided to quit....
I quit my job, my relationship,
my Spirituality..
I wanted to quit my life.
I went to the woods to have
One last talk with God.

'God', I said.
'Can You give me one good reason
not to quit?'

His answer surprised me...

'Look around', He said.
'Do you see the fern and the bamboo?'

'Yes', I replied.

'When I planted the fern and
the bamboo seeds, I took very good
care of them. I gave them light.
I gave them water.
The fern quickly grew from the earth.
Its brilliant green covered the floor.

Nothing came from the bamboo seed.
But I did not quit on the bamboo.

In the second year the Fern grew more vibrant and plentiful.

And again, nothing came from the bamboo seed.
But I did not quit on the bamboo'.

He said. 'In the third year, there was still nothing from
the bamboo seed.
But I would not quit.

In the fourth year, again, there was nothing from
the bamboo seed.
But I would not quit.

He said. 'Then in the fifth year a tiny sprout emerged from the earth. Compared to the fern it was seemingly small and insignificant.

But just 6 months later the bamboo rose to over 100 feet tall.
It had spent the five years growing roots.
Those roots made it strong and gave it what it needed to survive.

I would not give any of My creations a challenge it could not handle.'

He said to me. 'Did you know, My child, that all this time
you have been struggling, you have actually been growing roots?
I would not quit on The bamboo.
I will never quit on you.
Don't compare yourself to others.'

He said. 'The bamboo had a different purpose than the fern, yet, they both make the forest beautiful.'

'Your time will come', God said to me. ' You will rise high!'

'How high should I rise?' I asked.

'How high will the bamboo rise?'
He asked in return.

'As high as it can?' I questioned.

'Yes.' He said, 'Give Me glory by rising as high as you can.'

I left the forest and brought back this story.
I hope these words can help you see
that God will never give up on you........

Never regret a day in your life.
Good days give you Happiness.
Bad days give you Experiences.
Both are essential to life.
Keep going...
Happiness keeps you Sweet,
Trials keep you Strong,
Sorrows keep you Human,
Failures keep you Humble,
Success keeps You Glowing,
But Only God keeps You Going!

Have a great day!
The Son is shining!!

God is so big He can cover the whole world with His Love, and so small He can curl up inside your heart!

Thank you, Jessica! This IS a powerful message for times, when it seems that we are not growing. A lot happens even when we are not aware of it!

Have a great Sunday,

Hello everyone,

For me, God is The Essence of my being. God is the Energy Source that animates my physical body. When I look into the eyes of my brothers and sisters, I see and sense The Essence of God. The soul of my being, and every being, is the temple which houses God.... I feel that God does not reside outside of us, God resides in our hearts. I believe that every person is an expression of The Source that unites us together as one family,The Family of God.

Love to all xo....

Garbage Trucks
By David J. Pollay

How often do you let other people's nonsense change your mood?

Do you let a bad driver, rude waiter, curt boss, or an insensitive colleague ruin your day?

Unless you're a robot, you are bound to blow your top off.

However, the mark of a successful person is how quickly he or she can get back his or her focus on what's important.

Sixteen years ago, I learned this lesson. I learn it in the back of a New York City taxi cab. Here's what happened.

I hopped in a taxi, and we took off for Grand Central Station. We were driving in the right lane when, all of a sudden, a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his brakes, skidded, and missed the other car's back end by just inches!

The driver of the other car, the guy who almost caused a big accident, whipped his head around and he started yelling bad words at us.

My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean he was really friendly. So, I said, "Why did you do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!"

And this is when my taxi driver told me what I now called, 'The Law of the Garbage Truck'.

Many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it. If they happen to dump it on you, don't take it personally.

You just smile, wave, wish them well, and moved on. You'll be happier if you did that rather than fight them.

So this was it: 'The Law of the Garbage Truck'.

I started thinking, how often do I let garbage trucks run right over me?

And how often do I take the litter garbage and spread it to other people: at work, at home, on the street? It was that day I said, "I'm not going to do it anymore." I see garbage trucks everywhere and everyday. I see the load they're carrying. I see them coming to drop it off. And like my taxi driver, I don't make it a personal thing; I just smile, wave, wish them well, and I move on.

Good leaders know they have to be ready for their next meeting. Good parents know they have to welcome their kids' home from school with hugs and kisses. Teachers and parents know that they have to be fully present and at their best for the people they care about.

The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day.

What about you?

What would happen in your life, starting today,if you let more garbage trucks pass you by?

Here's my bet. You'll be happier.

Imenuff, Re: Garbage Trucks, "How true, how true". I find that when I encounter someone in this state and I remain calm, gentle, and have a smile, it makes them take a second look. Perhaps counteracting this way makes them think about their behavior. Thank you for posting.

God Bless

Betty, This is an excellent story, bringing the message across perfectly. Thank you for it! The reaction recommended is exactly the same which Marshall Rosenberg suggests and which he calls "listening with giraffe ears" instead of with "wolf ears", the giraffe being the animal with the biggest heart.
We can connect empathically with people who attack us, leaving the problem with them instead of taking an insult personally.

He tells a story of his son, then a teenager. When he went to a public highschool for the first time, his father asked him about his day."It was o.k.", his son reported, "but there are some teachers..., or rather there is one... When he saw me enter the school, his comment was, "Oh, we have a girl here!" (He wore his hair long). "And how did you react?" Rosenberg asked. "Well, I remembered what you told us, and I heard this with giraffe ears. This man has a problem with hair - he is bald".

Betty, I love the story too, and Juliana, I still haven't finished the book and I still react rather than respond. Only I can change that and thank you both for reminding me.

Re: Garbage Trucks

What a great post I'menuff !!!  It reminds me of another saying that says, when one finds themselves in any taunting type situation, the wisest way to handle it is to rise way above the circumstances, so high in fact, that you find yourself totally out of reach....

Love to all of you,

Kerry (PS)  xoxo....

The Garbage Truck story had been sent to me previously. It is a great story! It reminds me of another one which I have heard in a variety of versions. A man buys his newspaper every morning at a newsstand from a very grumpy, rude man. His friend asks him why he continues buying his paper there while being treated so unpleasantly. He answers, "I am not going to let him determine what kind of day I am going to have."

ALWAYS A SUNRISE

Look out, look in. Every day has a sunrise.
Wherever you are, like a magic circle, the world is all around you.
Everything has a purpose. Every action a reaction.
All around you there are happenings.

People, places and ideas, all offering you opportunities.
Some to be touched and changed by the very nature of your uniqueness.
Others to be left alone for they are not worthy of you.
Life is a love affair. Love the people around you, love what you do.

Every day dawns with a sunrise. Always, high days and low days.
Blue skies of pleasure, there to enjoy. Celebrate.
Dark clouds of storming hurt, however black, they always pass.
Today was yesterday’s tomorrow; yesterday is gone. History.
And the wonder of yesterday is whatever we didn’t like is behind us.
Make a change. Unlimited you. Greatness from within.

There is no such thing as failure, only learning experiences.
Some things are easy to learn, others hard.
What is easy for one may be hard for another.
Lessons to be learned, not burdens to be carried.
Everyone is different. Everyone is special.
We are all creative. We are all tool makers.

Greatness and humility. Both are you.
Leader and follower. Warrior and water carrier.
Teacher and student. Champion and cheerleader. Who is to say?
One day you are one, the next day you are the other.
Pace setters tread the untrodden path.
Never give away your sunrise day of action to an excuse.

'When the time is right.' 'When I feel like it.' 'When I've enough money.'
Sometimes it’s too easy to justify not taking action.
Sometimes you have to say 'no' to your inner voice ...
when it tries to keep you too comfortably where you're at.
Always a new light. Always a new day. Each day a gift of opportunity.
There is always a sunrise even when it is far from our view.

There is always a door. We simply have to seek.
There is always a key. We simply have to persist.
And, sometimes, we just have to wait a while. Patience does have virtue.
There is always a future. The future is hope and the magic is faith.

It begins with you today. Today a new day. Always.
Today our decision to be the person we really want to be.
Today our choice of courage to accept what we cannot change.
Today our choice to rise to the challenge of changing what we must.
These are the choices of happiness.

Always an answer. You simply have to believe.
The dawn. The magic of a new day given to us.
A love affair. A love affair with today.
Today, a gift of opportunity; to laugh; to learn; to achieve;
to make someone happy, to be happy.
Always a sunrise.
