Oh Edda with every post as with every group I do or every person I touch or receive Gratitude or a Thank you from I give God the Glory and Gratitude as he brings me to these moments from childhood on..he also brings beautiful souls like you into my life to show me his love....my gratefulness to your spirit..am I correct in that you were once in a career of the medical background or counseling?????
No matter it just supports the feeling I have of your healing abilities. Hello to Leon and happy to hear he is getting around I look forward to mastering the scooter in my time as it will be the first vehicle I master driving so ask Leon for any tips for my future.

Dear Barbara, my "past life" is no secret. Just click on my name and you will discover that I am a retired pediatrician. Taking care of Leon at the other end of the age spectrum has been quite a learning experience! There is no special trick to learning to ride the scooter. Leon has never been injured. When he first got it, I was the one who fell flat on my face while walking along!

Today I have been wondering if it was more difficult to give medication to a child who doesn't want it or to my neighbor's ailing cat who was hiding and made me crawl around her house with a flash light trying to find him. I felt a special sense of gratitude, when I managed to get the capsules into his mouth and  him to swallow them (after him spitting them out at first!). In the past he would take them hidden in tasty pockets, but today he was not interested!

Edda

Today, I am grateful for handkerchiefs (or as I prefer, paper towels) that so willingly give their lives to sop up runny noses. I am grateful for the soothing "touch" of warm coffee and tea and for a visit with a dear friend who is so capable of assisting me in seeing how I have allowed my "wheels to get off track" without even realizing it.
Barbara, It sounds like the the evening of music, mission stories and joy were real blessing. Your post about
quote:

"talk to him freely through prayer and it is okay to do this in all honesty when Im happy or scared meaning God accepts all our feelings without judgment and can help us manage them"
reminded me of a very special book that is very cover worn from it's travels to many homes--"Feelings and Emotions in Christian Living" by Mary Michael O'Shaughnessy, a Dominican Sister. She takes each of the "living life" emotions and corresponds them to various aspects of Jesus' life in Scripture where He, too, experienced these emotions, and therefore completely understands when we experience them. Amen to Edda's statement that we all need to re-discover what we already know. The specialness of this rediscovery often is that each new time it brings greater depth to a new life experience that needs its wisdom. Blessings on "be ing" I loved the comment about prayer "being an ongoing discussion with God about anything."
Lynn, your friend's dad will be held in prayer for whatever healing is most needed. May your vacation be filled with wonder, awe, and peace filled surprises when you least expect. Blessings on your and your family.
Jude, thank you for the beautiful gift of nature you have given us in your post about the first flights of the fledgling birds. It reminded me of all the times the Holy One has been there to "catch me" in so many "first steps" that I continue to make.
Juliana, I still need to begin planning. With the use of airline miles as restricted as it is, if I don't begin soon, I will read your emails from the states.
Jessica, Lori, Glenys, Vicky, Richard, Marie and all who post(that I may have skipped) or visit, may we all continue to pray for, bless, and support each other with our love and may our journeys each day bring us closer to and more in communion with the Divine within each of us, in all of humanity, and in all of the natural world..

Edda, I chuckled at the picture of you giving the neighbour's cat it's medicine! I used to struggle, and wrapped them up in blankets and towels, while their superior strength meant they escaped every time, despite my hanging on for grim death.
Now I just get the tablet ready, approach from behind and gently hold the scruff, which forces their mouths open, and get the tablet as far down the throat as I can before they know what has happened. It works every time for me. I think though, if it was a strange cat to me, I might don leather gloves first!!!!!!!!!!
Have you seen the funny verse about giving cats their tablets? I will see if I've got it and post it.

Jude

HOW TO GIVE YOUR CAT A PILL by Peggy Althoff

function p(){window.open('http://pub42.bravenet.com/announce/show.php?usernum=3605393114&cpv=2',
'bnettaf','width=400,height=190,top=200,left=200,toolbars=no,resizable=1');}

1. Grasp cat firmly in your arms. Cradle its head on your elbow, just as if you were giving baby a bottle. Coo confidently, "Thats a nice kitty." Drop pill into its mouth.
2. Retrieve cat from top of lamp and pill from under sofa.
3. Follow same procedure as in 1, but hold cat's front paws down with left hand and back paws down with elbow of right arm. Poke pill into its mouth with right forefinger.
4. Retrieve cat from under bed. Get new pill from bottle. (Resist impulse to get new cat.)
5. Again proceed as in 1, except when you have cat firmly cradled in bottle-feeding position, sit down on edge of chair, fold your torso over cat, bring your right hand over your left elbow, open cat's mouth by lifting the upper jaw and pop the pill in - quickly. Since your head is down by your knees, you won't be able to see what you're doing. That's just as well.
6. Leave cat hanging on drapes. Leave pill in your hair.
7. If you're a woman, have a good cry. If you're a man, have a good cry.
8. Now pull yourself together. Who's the boss here anyway? Retrieve cat and pill. Assuming position 1, say sternly, "Who's the boss here, anyway?" Open cat's mouth, take pill and...Oooops!
9. This isn't working, is it? Collapse and think. Aha! Those flashing claws are causing the chaos.
10. Crawl to linen closet. Drag back large beach towel. Spread towel on floor.
11. Retrieve cat from kitchen counter and pill from potted plant.
12. Spread cat on towel near one end with its head over long edge.
13. Flatten cat's front and back legs over its stomach. (Resist impulse to flatten cat.)
14. Roll cat in towel. Work fast; time and tabbies wait for no man-or woman.
15. Resume position 1. Rotate your left hand to cat's head. Press it's mouth at the jaw hinges like opening the petals of a snapdragon.
16. Drop pill into cat's mouth and poke gently. Voila! It's done.
17. Vacuum up loose fur (cat's). Apply bandages to wounds (yours).
18. Take two aspirins and lie down.

Thank you, Jude, this is hilarious!

This morning Freddie agreed to take his capsules in the tasty pill pockets our of my outstretched hand. Of course, I was on the floor reaching under the wardrobe where he was resting (hiding?).
Freddie is my favorite neighbor's cat who knows me well, which does not mean he won't use his teeth on me. He almost got my thumb yesterday! He is an expert at clenching his jaws not matter where you press. I have to pull the lower jaw done with my finger!

Dear all,

The discussion about succeeding in giving cats their pills is truly hilarious and gave me a good laugh. I am grateful that Lily, the cat I share with the couple in my house, doesn´t need any medicine at the moment! When she was young, she did, but I gave up any attempts and waited till her "parents" returned and the two of them managed to get her to swallow it.

Tonight I am grateful for something completely different: emails from a cyber friend and a CD given to me by a friend - with most valuable spiritual input.
You are right: we need to be reminded of what we already know!

Love to all of you,
Juliana

In the spirit of funny cat stories by the way I have enjoyed all the visuals of struggles with cats and hearty respect for their independence and ingenuity base on this experience. A close friend asked to sit for her elder feline much loved and about 35 pounds in weight I was hesitant as I owned a dog and the girls were little but mostly my friend was going to be out of the country and I had concerns that if any feline emergency arose I would have to enact some decisions. Just a bit more challenging was I had a broken leg in a cast toe to thigh. Well she assured me he was quiet, reclusive and really only came out of hiding when he was to eat -a second concern was I had a small apartment where could a 35 pound cat hide???? Clifford arrived he was long haired so looked huge to me, I placed his dishes in my kitchen and let him look around  she claimed he was quiet and off he went in the house and I made the kids leave him alone ...the next morning I placed his food in his dishes no cat, the am went to pm no cat, evening no cat I was a little unnerved...the following morning no cat...and rain storms I looked all over I finally convinced myself he had escaped as the kids opened the door I began a frantic search all over the block with plastic grocery bags and tape on my cast exhausted and crying I went home called a friend with a car we proceeded to search the neighborhood as close to the scene in Moon River I was crying Clifford and finally had to give in due to dark I decided I was a terrible freind and would have to call Cliffords Mom and ruin her vacation but would wait til morning as I drifted off to sleep a strange noise was coming from the kitchen from behind and under the kitchen cabinet with about a 2 inch space from the floor Betty will appreciate this after remodeling her kitchen in utter shock and disbelief first an ear, then a front paw, a side of a head until this 35 pound fur ball emerged into the kitchen walked passively with confidence to his dish looked up at me and went meow........I almost fainted from relief. Thanks for the memories and the laughter ....I have loved each story and the moral is.....we are grateful for cats especially after we survive giving them medicine, food or shelter who better to teach us patience and ingenuity

Thank you, Barbara for ending my day with your amusing (only in retrospect, of course!) cat story. Cats do have an uncanny ability to hide in the most unlikely spaces and places. My neighbor has three other cats, two of them very shy females. I am lucky if I have a sighting of them once a day! Empty food dishes and used litter boxes attest to their continued presence!

Have a great week,
Much love, Edda

Edda your welcome I'm happy you smiled. I would ask for all here to pray and light candles on behalf of my REFF Organization as I am applying for a small grant and your support will be appreciated as the funds would help to build our programs and continue our free support, education groups, continue our newsletter, web site and Resource Help Line. My gratitude to all who support our requests through prayer.

Barbara, I lit a candle for you and all you care for just a little while ago. Your group is still REFF, at least this is where I am lighting my candles for you!

Tonight I am grateful for what turned out to be a beautiful, not too hot day that allowed Leon to sit outside. I am also grateful for all the laughter about our cat stories; it made taking care of them easier.

Edda

Today I am grateful for moving on, but not moving out yet. Things have winded down and having kept the thought that was suggested, of being easy on oneself was taken, and has made a difference. And prayers for the asking. I am grateful to be here again although I have never really left, prayers for my online family and all of their needs, and thank you dear ones for yours as well.

God bless
Marie
