Edda, your poem describes perfectly what I was thinking. Most people I know don't even know one bird from another, and I could count the number of people watching the various birds which nest on the cliffs here over the past 19 years, on one hand. On those occasions there is something which connects us, without words. We have some kind of dove flock nesting on the castle, which display every evening en masse, kestrels and ravens on the cliffs, a heronry and of course, buzzards, as well as several types of seagull together with numerous other species too numerous to mention, which visit and fly over the garden. It's a lovely spot if you like nature, and birds in particular, as it has so many different habitats, namely farmland, river and cliff, with the sea within a couple of miles. Foxes are here too and a lovely addition to the night sounds. A female mating fox frightened the life out of me the first time I heard it. I was convinced someone was being murdered. Can you wonder I don't want to move from here! Jude
