Marie, I love your new little friend!  My parents have had a bluebird who has been practicing similar behavior.  I'd love to know what they're thinking about!

Lynn, I admire your courage, not only to go through what you must from day to day, but to keep a sense of humor.  (I had to have a colonoscopy last year, and hated the prep for it so much, I told the doctor he'd better get a good look because I had no intention of doing this again.  I was much more of a big baby than you are!)

I'm grateful that I thought I was going to have a very expensive and inconvenient repair to an appliance, and it turned out to be quick and painless.

I'm grateful that today's forecast reflects that, if we make it through 105 degree heat today and the next 3 days, we get rewarded with 98 degrees on Thursday (HAA! But such is life in Oklahoma in August).

Lori

Marie,I am sure all of us on this forum can say to you that we, too, are grateful that you decided to get a computer. We are grateful for all those times when we felt a real heart hurt or heaviness inside that we can always go back to the many many jokes Marie has posted and rereading them will make us smile and even laugh out loud. We are grateful for all the beautiful, cute pictures you have posted and most of all, we are grateful for all your openness, honesty and wisdom that you have shared with all of us. So, yes, we too are grateful that you decided to get a computer for you have added so much to all our lives.
Lynn, Your comment
quote:

Every hug, kiss, thoughtful word, kind gesture or a smile from a passing stranger makes up for everything.
brought to mind so many times when a hug, etc., was just the most perfect experience for me at a particularly low time. As I spent time with that thought, the question arose as to whether I would have even noticed such a small gesture if not for the problems, messes, bumps. Thank you for once again sharing your special wisdom with all of us. I loved your comment "If nothing else I will have gained an up close and personal relationship with my doctors and their staff." What a wonderfully humorous way to look at life.
Juliana, your spa visits sound absolutely wonderful. Making use of something like spa visits is considered very much a luxury by most I know in this country. It sounds like real gift to be able to use whenever the need is felt. When a cactus blooms, their flowers are always very special.
Jude, now that I have seen such beautiful pictures of your buzzards, I can readily understand your enthusiasm and excitement about watching them grow.
Edda, Congratulations to your aunt who is spry enough at 92 to still go to her hairdresser and to top off her birthday by sharing a bottle of wine.
May we all recognize the importance of self-care and sharing a little "liquid refreshment" with others every now and then, especially to celebrate a very special occasion.
Barbaradon't you just "love" all those muscle groups that you had forgotten all about and by their achiness, you are now reminded of their presence?.

Today I am grateful for the gift of watching all on this forum bloom and grow in so many different ways and for the gift of each one's personal growth being a gentle invitation to continue my own journey of growth.

Today I am filled with gratitude for my Son, who is celebrating (or rather having, as he doesn´t believe in celebrating much) his birthday today. Last year, it was this event which made me join the Gratefulness Forums, after overcoming all reluctance to deal with computer difficulties - with the help of

Betty. Thank you! Also for your appreciation of all posts and commenting on them.

In the course of a year, I have learned and benefited from all of you, and I say thank you to each one of you:

Edda, for your wisdom in giving advice, and your "Lebenskunst"
Jude, for your openness and great common sense
Lynn, for your courage and refreshing sense of humor
Barbara, for your faith and your skill in dealing with adversities
Joe, for your openness and your contribution of valuable videos
Richard, for your posting memorable Zen stories and Zen wisdom
Marie, for sharing the changes in your life and a great number of amusing pictures.
T.O. for numerous beautiful pictures and teaching me to value beauty

Lori, for sharing so candidly many of your  everyday experiences as well as your worries
Alchemist, for the wisdom of the quotes you have shared

There are many others whose posts have touched me - they should feel included.

Juliana

Welcome to Suzanne, I really enjoy reading your posts.

I had my procedures done today, results were good. Not surprising, I have an ulcer, I would be surprised if I didn't have one. lol
I see him again next week for the biopsy results. I have to take 2 prilosec a day to help the ulcer pain, until he tells me otherwise.
I am very grateful for the good news and looking forward to more.
Prayers and blessings to all. And I appreciate all the good wishes. Love, Lynn xo

Dear Lynn, I am glad for your good news! It's (only?!) an ulcer but at least you know the cause of your pain. I hope with you for more good news, and also that the medication will bring you relief!

Much love and warm hugs,
Edda

Juliana, thank you for your colorful, special "Gratefulnes Litany".

For those who wonder what "Lebenskunst" is, and I am flattered to be told to have some measure of it, it means "art of living". The German word goes beyond the externals of knowing how to live well, and includes one's stance in life.

I am grateful for all the posts I find every time I come to this site, and the privilege to get to know so many wonderful members of this gratefulness family.

Hi Everyone,
I am grateful for having been to the dentist!................
I was reading a magazine while I was waiting to go in to see the dentist and read and article about a website called www.freerice.com.
I would ask you all to go on there. There is an online "word game" that you play (it's free), for every word you answer correctly, the site donates 20g of rice to the U N World Food Programme.
As someone who frequently " surfs" the net aimlessly, looking at a whole host of sites,  when I could be doing something far more useful and productive. I think this site is excellent.

Thank you very much for this, Glenys! Joe had posted this link some time ago, but I had not been able to re-locate it. I´ll enjoy going to the site again and forwarding the link to my English-speaking friends.

Love,
Juliana

Thank you, Glenys!
Perhaps it would be a good idea to make a note of this website so one can go to it any time without trying to find the link or depending on thoughtful people like you to post it again!

Have a great weekend,
Love,
Edda

Today I am grateful I took the plunge and booked my coach ticket to go and see my Sister! (been planning it for 2 years!!)
I'm not good with public transport and tend to put journeys off, but, although I'm not looking forward to the journey, I am looking forward to seeing my Sister and her husband, and possibly my Brother and other Sister as well as my daughter and Grandson. Sooooooo.. what's a 4 hour coach journey when I've got all that to look forward to?
I've got all my CDs and walkman ready to keep me distracted on the way. First priority.LOL
I will worry about leaving my animals, especially Blackberry who is unwell and so dependent on me. I've given Chloe special duties to look after him!
So now it's all the palava of getting packed and the 100 and 1 things which need doing even for a short break. I don't know how people cope with holidays abroad!!
And there's Tara preparing to move jobs and countries all in one go!!

Jude

I am grateful for another day of warm sunshine. Tomorrow I will be spending time with niece's 3 lovely children. On thursday they will spend the night here and friday morning we are off to our annual family reunion.

I went to the freerice site and played the game for awhile. I saved it in my favorites so I can go there easily.

Blessings to all. Love, Lynn xo

Dear Lynn,
It takes brains to think of the obvious! I didn't think of saving it to my Favorites.

Have a great time.

Barbara, when your muscles are sore, think of the fact that you are building muscles. And that's a good thing!  That's what I try to remember, when I am moving the ramps for Leon's scooter around so that he can get out onto the sidewalk.  A couple of days ago one ramp came apart, but a young man happened to come by and helped us get the scooter up the step. I am grateful for our trusty handyman who came the same day to reinforce all parts of both ramps. His electric screwdriver made it like child's play in comparison to the painful inserting of screws by hand.

Edda, what a difference a little help makes! I know the feeling. A good handyman is worth his weight in gold!

Barbara, you are doing fine! Not sure I should be an inspiration for you........more the other way round I think. I've got a little flare-up of fibromyalgia today (getting stressed probably the cause!) and one of the cats has an abscess. Good timing, when I'm going to be away!!

I am grateful for the friend who has called to take Chloe to her friend's swimming party. Her Dad, out for the night has overslept and won't be home in time. Grrr!!

Today, I am grateful for a very special time with Paul, one of those "stop thinking times of allowing the gut, heart, and spirit to tell me what to do."
Out of the blue, as Joe and I were leaving to go to the hospital early this morning, I suggested stopping at the good old German bakery. Paul has absolutely no appetite, but when the aroma of the little box of goodies was opened, permission granted to eat, and "cream horn" in handas he lay in bed, for a few brief moments, the little boy surfaced above the cancer, oxygen, shunts and all else, and just laid and enjoyed the full glory of eating the cream horn. For those who do not know what i am referring to, it is a spiral of puff pastry about 6 to 8 inches long with an empty tube like opening all the way through and filled with a very special cream filling all the way down the center of the tube opening. Although he couldn't quite finish all of it, it was so good to see the glimmer of the little boy totally enjoying his very special goodie. What a wonderful gift to be grateful for.

Betty, I just can see Paul enjoying the pastry! And you enjoying seeing him!
It reminds me of a former neighbor who was in intensive care with a pulmonary problem. Her husband told us that the first thing she was willing to eat were some of my Christmas cookies. There must be something about these German/Austrian recipes! A different kind of "soul food"!
