Dear J,

I am glad you have had much more sunshine. Hopefully, everything will soon dry out and go back as much as possible to normal for all who were so devastatingly affected by the flood.

quote:

Humans are very irrational aren't they?...After all, I eat chickens and turkeys. I suppose I should be willing to kill them if I'm willing to eat them. Ho hum!!

I know I am very irrational in that regard. If I had to kill anything I eat, I would probably starve. Perhaps if I were starving, I wouldn't mind killing the animal to keep from starving. That is a different way of looking at it though, considering predatory animals are killing to keep from starving. Perhaps I will look at Buzzards differently now. Thank you.

Today I am grateful for four fine days spent with my visitors. It has been so rewarding cooking meals for them, showing them the sights of our capital (centuries-old castles...), having good talks, answering their needs and making them comfortable. Nothing gives more happiness than being able to care for others .

I feel grateful for this forum.  A few months ago, when it was really chaotic at work because we were shorthanded and working really long days, I lost touch with joy.  I was too drained to feel joy.  I really started struggling with a bad attitude.  I started taking a meditation class and that helped (more than I expected, and in many ways, but that's for another day). And I started setting more limits about what I was willing to do for the sake of my job and what I wasn't willing to do, and that helped.  I read somewhere about keeping a gratitude journal, which I thought was a great idea, but I never started one.  But this forum helps me do that.  I keep my eyes open every day now for what I feel grateful for.  This has been a wonderful spiritual practice for me.  It has really helped me appreciate the small, everyday things.

Today I am grateful for fresh air. Living close to a refinery, there are mornings when the air is not that fresh. Today is an exception.

Today was a rough day at work.  Mostly I'm grateful for a couple of good friends that I can talk to about it, and that the humidity is going down.  Temps still over 100, but less humidity is good.

Today I am grateful the fever is gone and things are slowly going back to normal. I am also grateful that the weather forecast for Friday is only 93 instead of the 103 to 105 that is has been so far this week!

Namaste to all of you

J1937, I am sure your guests are very grateful for you What a special gift to give them, to open your home for them, show them your beautiful homeland and so totally give of yourself that they might feel so comfortable and welcome. Your post GLOWS with the truth of Assissi's statement "It is in giving that we receive".

Lori, We too are grateful that you are part of this forum. I am sorry that work has been so chaotic lately. It sounds like you were very wise in starting to set limits about what you were willing to do for the sake of your job and what you were not willing to do. Yes, this forum does help to remind one of all there is to be grateful for and your post helps remind me not to overlook all those little everyday that I so often take for granted. Thank you!

Richard, I am pleased that you finally had a morning of fresh air. Thank you for reminding me of yet another thing that I have to be grateful for.

May you all have a very blessed week.

Today I am grateful that my telephone call to my son brought me good news and was answered in a joyous tone.  Perhaps there are mothers like me, who are the worrying type and are reluctant to call, lest their son or daughter might sense the worry behind their words , or worse, there might be bad news. Today, however, my son sounded happy, telling me that he was just on a little tour, taking photographs with a colleague. He is a gifted photographer - one more reason to feel deep gratitude .

I'm really grateful for my friends today, and support I've received from not just friends but from unexpected others as well.  It reminds me that sometimes I expect the worst from others, or at least expect that I won't get the best.  And in those times I can be wrong!

TODAY, I AM GRATEFUL for being allowed to serve as a container.

We shape clay
to birth a vessel,
yet it's the hollow within
that makes it useful.

We chisel doors and windows
to construct a room,
yet it is the inner space
that makes it livable.

Today I am grateful for Richard's wonderfully rich posts that help to open mind and heart! This poem beautifully summarizes yesterday's post on "Being a Container".

Today, I am grateful for the fury. It's stirred up some very interesting things about myself that I kinda only half-knew. Now, I'm much more aware of them, and can start dealing with them.

Thank you, Solomon, for posting this. I´ve always had trouble with people who get furious, as I myself tend to "swallow" any anger. I can see your point, and I´m ready to learn from it, understanding the inherent meaning of an outburst better now.

Today I am grateful that the temperature is finally below triple digits!

Solomon, I am also grateful for your post. It is one that I could not write, at least not yet. It seems that this year so far has been one spent in attempting to stretch and grow in confronting people.

J1937, Like you, I often just "swallow" it which only makes it worse. My prayer has been that I become the woman I was created to be. Considering all the confrontation that has been a part of this year, at times, I really want to walk away from that prayer. Perhaps, one of these times, Solomon, I too will be able to say "Today, I am grateful for the fury."

May you both have a blessed weekend.

I'm also grateful the temp is below triple digits, and that even cooler temps (and maybe rain!) are on the way!

I'm grateful I got a big project finished today.  It had been weighing on me.  And I'm glad it's Friday!

Dear Lori,
I wish I could send you some of our rain!!!!!!!!!!!!

I also wish I could be grateful for it, but this year I can't. I thankfully haven't been affected by the floods here, but my garden has been a total washout  - left now to the slugs and snails.       J

Today I am especially grateful for a wonderful movie I have just watched. It´s French, called "Ensemble, c´est tout" and deals with four very different characters, who finally arrive at establishing good relations. As I have no TV - here in Europe more and more people renounce it - I quite often go to watch  "specials" (not mainstream), which have a message to give. This one can be recommended!
