Tonight I am grateful for all your personal replies, Imenuff. I´m also grateful for baking brownies, the recipe for which - unknown over here in Austria - I found in an English textbook .

Imenuff:  I'm glad your meeting was fruitful and that you were supported.  I think I understand that feeling, and I don't like it either.  When I know something like that must happen, I tend to really fret about it.  The amount of support I have with it makes a huge difference in how I end up feeling about it.  And I'm glad you had support.

One time, ironically just as I was finishing graduate school, I got a fortune cookie that said, "Many ideals are becoming real."    That was the kind of day I had, where the evidence of "ideals becoming real" was all around me.  I'm grateful for that.

Today my daughter and her husband saw their new baby via ultrasound for the first time.  I am grateful that everything is going well with a pregnancy my daughter has prayed for, and I am grateful that I know she and her husband are going to be wonderful parents.

I'm also grateful that the two of them rushed over to our house after work to bring the video of the ultrasound to share with us.  Our baby daughter having a baby of her own.  It's an amazing miracle!

And finally, in a crazy world with so much to be concerned about, I'm thankful to find a forum like this one where people of faith don't have to worry about ridicule and hate.

Thank God for all the many wonderful little (and big) miracles of our lives!

All the best to all of you,
Lolly

Dear Juliana,
You have now found one of the great 'SINS" of anyone in the States attempting to loose weight -- WARM, CHEWY BROWNIES, JUST OUT OF THE OVEN, with a large scoop of vanilla ice cream slowly melting into themPOSITIVELY YUMMY. Enjoy!!

Solomon,
You are right, inights we receive are a very special reason for gratitude! When it is an insight about something negative in my own character it is a real gift. It can help me develop an awareness of that negative trait and I can then become more conscious of it and slowly begin to be free of it.

Lori, dear,
Your post so obviously understood where I was. I don't know about all of you, but I know having those I can count on for prayer support truly helps in those situations. Your fortune cookie sounds like it was a real gift, especially since the end of something like grad school can provide so many mixed feelings of joy(I actually made it through) and fear (now what). Thank you for your understanding.

Dear Lolly, Welcome to the Forum
Congratulations on your new little one. What a very special gift for you and your husband.
quote:

Our baby daughter having a baby of her own. It's an amazing miracle!
Your post reminded me of the song "Sunrise, Sunset" from Fiddler on the roof.

I enjoyed your web page and hope you don't mind that I have copied your quote at the top of the page and posted it to our "Words of Wisdom" section of this forum, since it contains very special words of wisdom.

Please come back often and keep us updated on your new miracle. Your daughter and the little one will be held in prayer for a safe pregnancy and delivery.

Zen,
Thank you for that very special reminder that we are all capable of making the decision to breathe in confidence and exhale doubt. Slowly breathing with awareness can be such a calming force in each of our lives.

NAMASTE to all of you!!. You all are truly a very special gift to my life.

It´s you, Imenuff, who have just made me acquainted with that "sin" - I hadn´t known about the icecream!  Today I am grateful for leaving all "sins" behind and going to a Benedictine monastery, which is now a retreat center, perched high up on a rock, for a week of meditation and meditative hiking.

Juliana,

In some ways I think your retreat sounds Yummy, and in others I think, that sounds hard work! I expect it will be a bit of both.

Today I am grateful for THE most glorious day weatherwise. Blue, blue sky, warm sun and a nice breeze to keep everyone cool. Perfect!   J

J, the retreat I´m going to attend is not hard at all, at least I do not look at it that way. We "sit" in meditation twice a day for 20 minutes, get inspirational talks from our director, who is a Benedictine priest, we walk in silence, sing, and do meditative dances.Years ago I went there every year, so I have some practice. It certainly depends on one´s age, too; young people will probably find it harder, especially if it´s their first time. I´m grateful for all the times I´ve had the chance to take part.

Dear Juliana, I wish I could join you on your retreat. I could use a quiet, meditative week just now! However, I am grateful for my Centering Prayer Group. We meet every Saturday morning and "sit" in silence for 20 minutes. After refreshments we talk about a book we study together or listen to some appropriate tapes. I am truly grateful for this caring, supportive circle of friends.

Dear Juliana,
You are so right about retreats being something one does not look on as "hard". I know mine is scheduled for Advent in Chicago for nine days. Mine is an individual directed retreat--just meeting with the retreat director each day and spending the rest of the time in allowing the Holy One to lead wherever our God chooses. Much of my last one was spent in the middle of winter taking long walks along Lake Michigan and letting God be God and merely following God's lead and that of my director. Retreats are such gifted times in life. Just thinking about it now makes me very grateful that the scheduling worked out with my director.

Juliana, dear, You already know my prayers are with you and the candle is burning and will stay burning until you return.

Dear Edda,
I am sure you really could use the quiet of a retreat right now with all that is going on in your life. Centering prayer groups are a real gift. I am so glad you have that on a weekly basis. May it bring you a little piece of time to care for you and rest in the stillness of the Holy One.

Today I am grateful that we did not lose power during yesterday's severe storms and that our basement did not flood. Caring for my husband would have been made very difficult.

Dear Imenuff,
Thank you for your good wishes! Yes, Saturday mornings are a piece of quiet time for myself (even though my cellular phone is on in case I am needed!).

Dear Edda,

I am very pleased the storms didn't cause you problems.

At the moment we in Britain are having a rest from all the storms with some glorious late-Summer type weather, which I am very grateful for.

Dear Jude, you deserve some fine weather!

This morning, after I posted, I went out and saw some mighty trees splintered and blocking the sidewalk, and not far down the street the power was out (and still is out) and stores and restaurants closed. Now I realize just how fortunate we were! There are more storms predicted for tonight; I hope they will be less damaging, and the ones without power will get it back before their losses are too great!

Solomon:  Congratulations on your dog!  That's definitely something to be grateful for.  I had a dog for 17 years, and he was a wonderful companion.

Today I'm grateful for a conversation I had with a co-worker, who is relatively new to the job (only a few months), in which I discovered many reasons to have a lot of respect for her.  I'm sad to say I had a different perception of her, not a bad one, really, but she's so quiet the things I can appreciate most about her were not very apparent to me.  What a wonderful surprise!

Juliana: I hope you have a wonderful retreat.  I haven't gone on a retreat in years, and your post reminded me that I need one!  Thanks!
