The heat and excessive humidity had finally broken. Early morning was clear and cool even with only the fan. Lone Elk Park is only a 20 minute drive away from the city, and there was a real pull inside to go off into the woods. I had slowly driven barely 60 feet into the park when I could go no farther--two large elk, their racks stretching at least three to four feet toward the heavens were standing in the middle of the narrow roadway. This was early morning breakfast, a time to peacefully nibble the grasses along side the road, a time to slow and just "be". Gradually, they moved on to greener pastures and I could slowly move down the narrow winding road and allow the woods to wrap itself around me. Strange, the Bisson area had at least six cars completely stopped and on alternating sides of the road attempting to allow other cars to pass. My appointment wasn't for another 1 1/2 hours but still I needed to move on. There they were, the living road block, a full herd of buffalo meandering back and forth across the narrow road. At least 5 mommies were standing in the middle of the narrow road nursing their little babies while huge daddies slowly walked back and forth guarding their families. The little ones were very young and small with some curlyness still on their coat. Wild turkey flocks strolled in, out, and around the buffalo. A time to be still and allow creation to enfold me and permiate my very being. A grateful heart turns to you, Creator One, filled with the joy of experiencing your created beauty and your spontaneous gift of peace.
