Imenuff -> TODAY, I AM GRATEFUL FOR .......... (7/22/2007 6:31:58 AM)

The heat and excessive humidity had finally broken. Early morning was clear and cool even with only the fan.
Lone Elk Park is only a 20 minute drive away from the city, and there was a real pull inside to go off into the woods. I had slowly driven barely 60 feet into the park when I could go no farther--two large elk, their racks stretching at least three to four feet toward the heavens were standing in the middle of the narrow roadway. This was early morning breakfast, a time to peacefully nibble the grasses along side the road, a time to slow and just "be". Gradually, they moved on to greener pastures and I could slowly move down the narrow winding road and allow the woods to wrap itself around me.

Strange, the Bisson area had at least six cars completely stopped and on alternating sides of the road attempting to allow other cars to pass. My appointment wasn't for another 1 1/2 hours but still I needed to move on.

There they were, the living road block, a full herd of buffalo meandering back and forth across the narrow road. At least 5 mommies were standing in the middle of the narrow road nursing their little babies while huge daddies slowly walked back and forth guarding their families. The little ones were very young and small with some curlyness still on their coat. Wild turkey flocks strolled in, out, and around the buffalo. A time to be still and allow creation to enfold me and permiate my very being. A grateful heart turns to you, Creator One, filled with the joy of experiencing your created beauty and your spontaneous gift of peace.

Today, i am grateful for having a car that works. It might be 20 years old this year, but it's faithful and reliable, and I wouldn't want to part with it. [:)]

Today I'm grateful for the people in my life who loved me and raised me, gave me their time and shared themselves with me.  A very dear uncle has been in the hospital, and he's doing much better and is expected to recover.  But his illness has reminded me once again of the gifts I've received from him and his wife, as well as my parents and grandparents and other aunts and uncles.  Bless them.

Solomon,

I read your post and thought of my husband and his 20 year old van. It, too, is faithful and reliable and though he found one 10 years newer, it's just not the same and so the newer one is for sale and the 20 year old reliable is the one he uses. He , too, is very grateful he is back with his old reliable.[:D]

Welcome to the form, Lori. I hope you find as I have from those posting here that there are always so many things to be grateful for even when problems seem to surround us. Know that your uncle's speedy recovery will be part of my prayer. Your parents and uncle, aunt and family sound like real gift. You are right, often times someone's illness reminds us of how very special they are and how blessed we are to have them. I am sure they feel just as blessed to have you.

Our prayers for your special uncle's healing go out to him.

Today, I am grateful for a car to drive to the grocery store, the money to buy groceries, a refrigerator and pantry to store them in. I am grateful for electricity to see with, to cool the house, to cook with. I am grateful I even have a house. I am grateful for all those who stop and share their reasons for gratitude today.

Today I am grateful that we coped with the till crash at work very well.

arows1faith -> RE: TODAY, I AM GRATEFUL FOR .......... (7/24/2007 3:26:47 PM)

I am grateful for today. Another day to love as though I'd never been hurt. Another day to laugh as though I'd never cried. Another day to dance as if no one was watching. Another day to work as if I did't need the money.

I am grateful for other people. Wonderful 'others' that help me to find new perspectives and unknown patience. Beautiful beings that have taken human form just so I won't feel alone.

I am grateful for today and all the gifts and lessons it is filled with.

Solomon,

Today, after reading your post on "Nature" I am grateful that you seem to have escaped any damage from the floods. The pictures that have been on TV here in the States have shown what seems to be horrible devastation. All those who are suffering from the floods will be included in prayer.

Solomon -> RE: TODAY, I AM GRATEFUL FOR .......... (7/24/2007 5:56:19 PM)

Today I am grateful for all the thing's I've accomplished.

buttington -> RE: TODAY, I AM GRATEFUL FOR .......... (7/24/2007 7:16:59 PM)

Today I am grateful for friends old and new, for a lovely phone conversation with my daughter, and, despite living right next to 2 rivers, have so far escaped the floods. I am also grateful today for a 'conversation' with my local newly-fledged buzzard chick who, whilst being mobbed by seagulls, took time out to come and have a closer look at me! Magic moment.  J

I'm grateful that, after a very long (year and a half) period of time when things at my job were very chaotic, things have finally settled into a nice, relatively calm routine.  That may sound boring to some people, but I love it!![:D]

Imenuff -> RE: TODAY, I AM GRATEFUL FOR .......... (7/25/2007 6:45:47 AM)

The relatively calm routine at work sounds really great. A year and a half is a llllllllooooooonnnnnngggggg time to try to do your best in the midst of chaos. May peace continue in your work place.

Imenuff -> RE: TODAY, I AM GRATEFUL FOR .......... (7/28/2007 11:41:22 AM)

Today,I am grateful for the rains that came early to gently refresh the baked soil. I also pray that Solomon is safe and that all those in England experiencing flooding will be safe and receive the courage and strength they will need to rebuild their lives.

May they be blessed.

Solomon -> RE: TODAY, I AM GRATEFUL FOR .......... (7/28/2007 3:03:03 PM)

Yeah, I'm safe. I had the wisdom to live on the side of a hill. [:D] All the local radio stations are rallying round for people, and asking for donations of food, shelter, etc.

Today I am grateful for seeing butterflies in the garden, even if they wouldn't sit still long enough for me to get a photo.

Imenuff -> RE: TODAY, I AM GRATEFUL FOR .......... (7/30/2007 6:08:49 PM)

Today I am grateful that you are safe, Solomon, and I pray that the butterflies become friends with you and stay still as long as you need them to in order to get a very special photo of them.

Today, I am also most grateful for a reconciliation in my immediate family after a more than two year estrangement. I am also grateful for Soshin once again reminding me of the very special greeting "Namaste.

Solomon -> RE: TODAY, I AM GRATEFUL FOR .......... (7/31/2007 4:28:25 AM)

My mom and dad are often to be seen dashing up the garden with the camera when they see a butterfly, and shouting "which button do I press?" to one another. [:D]

Today I am grateful that I get to see one of my best friends at work.

Soshin -> RE: TODAY, I AM GRATEFUL FOR .......... (8/1/2007 11:02:07 AM)

...staying mostly true to my commitment to embrace myself much more dearly as I used to do which seems to have a fundamental good effect.... Very interesting!.
...and for a wonderful women who teaches me the pro and cons of language barriers... [:D]
...and she also gave me this very interesting link to Pema Chödron's teachings. I got the first email out of a fourty-day online retreat. Even the first one was spot on to what I needed.

Namaste,

Soshin

Hildegard -> RE: TODAY, I AM GRATEFUL FOR .......... (8/1/2007 11:19:26 AM)

I am grateful that someone from my homecountry, Soshin, has found this forum and is planning to start a group in Vienna, spreading the message of gratefulness.
I am also grateful for Pema Chodron whose wisdom, combined with compassion and a sense of humor, has helped so many face the challenges of daily life.

Imenuff -> RE: TODAY, I AM GRATEFUL FOR .......... (8/1/2007 11:20:32 AM)

All those who are new to our forum and so willing to share.

That one of our newer forum members found the Pema Chodron link for the forty-day retreat. My only comment about it is -- truly, the "best" is yet to come. As one who also struggles to embrace myself much more dearly, I found it very consoling to read the Pema emails. It was as though someone other than me had experienced all those "negatives" I can often so easily find about myself, and yet her approach to them is so completely positive.

Namaste--May we each recognize the "Life Force" that exists in each of us and so recognize the connectedness of all humanity.

May you be blessed!
