Here's a wishing well
Here's a penny for
Any thought it is
That makes you smile
Every diamond dream
Everything that brings
Love and happiness
To your life

Here's a rabbit's foot
Take it when you go
So you'll always know
You're safe from harm
Wear your ruby shoes
When you're far away
So you'll always stay
Home in your heart

You will always have a lucky star
That shines because of what you are
Even in the deepest dark
Because your aim is true
And if i could only have one wish
Darling, then it would be this
Love and happiness for you

Here's a spinning wheel
Use it once you've learned
There's a way to turn
The straw to gold
Here's a rosary
Count on every bead
With a prayer to keep
The hope you hold

You will always have a lucky star
That shines because of what you are
Even in the deepest dark
Because your aim is true
And if I could only have one wish
Darling, then it would be this
Love and happiness for you

Thank you for remembering me, Mark Knopfler

This sums it up to me not to fall into the trap of loving conditionally.

Dear Soshin,

That's beautiful, and a little lesson for us all.

A wise friend once said to me "Love with conditions is not love."

This little piece of wisdom had a profound effect on me.   J

Welcome to the forum Soshin,

Please share the wisdom of your faith experience with us often. Personally, I have just finished a 40 day onine retreat on our Sister site--Spirituality and Practice. The retreat was based on the writings of Pema Chodron who is a Buddhist nun in the Tibetan Vajrayana tradition. The materials were excellent and very challenging. Thank you for your beautiful poem and for joining our forum.

Shalom, Imenuff.

Thank you for the warm welcome. This is indeed a good place here to stay.

My first meeting with Brother David was when I read his first book about gratefulness, which he so genuinely makes his practice for his whole life. I fell in love with him immediately. And with the love for a teacher the teacher can serve as something like a bridge, which helped me a lot in darker times.

I was subscribed to the Gratefulnes mailinglist for a long time until I changed my email adress. Something important was missing.

Very recently, in a challenging time for me I came to remember this site, found it well and flourishing, and for the first time with a true forum which adds so much to the helpulness of this site.

Now I am on the mailinglist again and I am looking forward to find little gems in my mailbox, which in itself is something like a miracle.

Please, all, forgive my poor english.... But I am practicing.

My Zen practice left a lot to wish lately, so I am afraid I am able to only share what I am able to be.

Namaste (Nepali for: Greeting the divine in you)

And now I commit myself here and now to make it my practice, as I am seriously lacking love for myself:

To read the poem as if it were written adressing me. And even if I would have no one in the whole world who was loving me (which - and I am very grateful for that - is far from the truth), at least it is me who wishes myself those diamond dreams, giving myself this rabbits foot, and wishing myself the insight how to turn straw to gold.

And the prayer (or whatever you would tell it) to keep the hope I hold.

Namaste, Soshin,

Thank you for the greeting of "Namaste". It has become one of my most favorite greetings for people I know. It is such a very special reminder of who we all are. I had learned it some time back and it is so much more meaningful than just our American way of saying "hello."

Your post reminded me of when I had been in Quebec a while back and the shop keepers apologized to me that they didn't speak English more fluently. We have so much to learn from all of you. So many around the world will apologize to Americans because they don't speak our language perfectly, yet unlike Americans who often expect others to learn our language, the individual apologizing knows and can speak several languages.
Please, Soshin, no apologies are necessary. I would be pleased if I could write in a foreign language just half as well as you write English.

Thank you for your honesty about your Zen practice. It has reminded me to once again revisit the little nuggets of Pema Chodron's writings that were sent to me as a practice for each day. I am so glad that you are back on the mailing list and have chosen to visit our forum.
Please come back often. It is good to know that those practicing Zen struggle as much as we who are Christians struggle with our own practices. Zen has become a special part of my spirituality and has added much to my personal growth.

Namaste, my friend,
