Betty, I feel like I'm not really in a dialogue anymore, so I'll attempt to make a few corrections and then bow out. First, my reference to Microsoft (as I tried to clarify) is not to lionize, but rather to simply point out the futility of demonizing them or anyone else, rather than attempting to work with them. In the same vein, I meant only that it has not been my personal experience that Microsoft crushes poor people. I was only hoping to make a distinction. I fully acknowledge that there are organizations exploiting and holding the poor in poverty, but I think there are opportunities beyond pointing fingers in anger, especially with organizations like the Gates Foundation and simply meant to say that it is my opinion that any percentage is better than nothing as a start. Secondly, any hint of sarcasm you may detect is not intended on my part. I was sincerely trying to speak only for myself...I too have experienced not knowing where the rent would be coming from, but I do not give anywhere close to 10% of my income away. Perhaps that's why I can't bring myself to be overly upset with anyone who does. Thirdly, while I actually share your frustration at obscene CEO salaries, this doesn't feel like a conversation about gratitude and so I'll apologize to the list for my part in distracting the conversation and step away. -- j
