These pictures are exceptional and they remind me of a poem by someone who just passed away recently. His passing went peacefully as he slept as befits his writings.

Enjoy.

A Blessing

By John O’Donahue

May you awaken to the mystery of being here and enter the quiet immensity of your own presence.
May you have joy and peace in the temple of your senses.
May you receive great encouragement when new frontiers beckon.
May you respond to the call of your gift and find the courage to follow its path.
May the flame of anger free you from falsity.
May warmth of heart keep your presence aflame
And may anxiety never linger about you.
May your outer dignity mirror an inner dignity of soul.
May you take time to celebrate the quiet miracles that seek no attention.
May you be consoled in the secret symmetry of your soul.
May you experience each day as a sacred gift woven around the heart of wonder.

Alchemist, thank you for the Blessing you posted. I did not know that John O'Donohue had died. I have listened to a number of his tapes and read in his books. His soothing, gentle voice was a real blessing and will be missed by many.

I was surprised that he was only 52. I had thought he was older than that. He died while on New Year's holiday in France. It was less than two weeks after his last book was published. He wrote often of death as just another adventure. It was more than appropriate that such a peaceful soul should pass peacefully. Here is a slideshow which accompanies his reading of one of his poems discussing death,

Enjoy.

Nancy Reagan, political activist
A woman is like a tea bag. She only knows her strength when put in hot water.

Aristotle, philosopher
If women didn't exist, all the money in the world would have no meaning.

James Thurber, American humorist
I hate women because they always know where things are.

Malcolm de Chazal, Mauritian writer
A woman knows how to keep quiet when she is in the right, whereas a man, when he is in the right, will keep on talking.

Jules Michelet, French historian
Woman is a miracle of divine contradictions.

Freya Stark, author
The great and almost only comfort about being a woman is that one can always pretend to be more stupid than one is and no one is surprised.

Gloria Steinem, American feminist
Someone once asked me why women don't gamble as much as men do and I gave the commonsensical reply that we don't have as much money.
That was a true but incomplete answer. In fact, women's total instinct for gambling is satisfied by marriage.

Gloria Steinem, feminist
[speech at Yale University] Some of us are becoming the men we wanted to marry.

Thank you, Alchemist, for this link with the pictures of John O'Donohue in his landscape, and him reading. I really appreciate it! I will go to SOF to hear the interview with him, time permitting.

Much love,
Edda

Susan B. Anthony, women's activist
Modern invention has banished the spinning wheel, and the same law of progress makes the woman of today a different woman from her grandmother.

Maya Angelou, African American poet
How important it is for us to recognize and celebrate our heroes and she-roes!

Germaine Greer, academician, The Female Eunuch
Is it too much to ask that women be spared the daily struggle for superhuman beauty in order to offer it to the caresses of a sub-humanly ugly mate?

Emily Dickinson, poet
Not knowing when the dawn will come, I open every door.

Martha Graham, American choreographer
Nobody cares if you can't dance well. Just get up and dance. Great dancers are not great because of their technique, they are great because of their passion.

Marian Wright Edelman, American activist, Families in Peril
We must not, in trying to think about how we can make a big difference, ignore the small daily difference we can make which, over time, add up to big differences that we often cannot foresee.

Diane Ackerman, poet
[quoted in Newsweek, September 22, 1986] I don't want to get to the end of my life and find that I lived just the length of it. I want to have lived the width of it as well.

Elizabeth Cady Stanton, activist
[Declaration of Sentiments, First Women's Rights Convention] We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men and women are created equal.

Carrie Chapman Catt, women's rights activist
[in a speech at the Senate] No written law has ever been more binding than unwritten custom supported by popular opinion.

Mary Wollstonecraft, writer, A Vindication of the Rights of Women
Women are systematically degraded by receiving the trivial attentions which men think it manly to pay to the sex, when, in fact, men are insultingly supporting their own superiority.

Margaret Thatcher, British politician
In politics if you want anything said, ask a man. If you want anything done, ask a woman.

Susan Faludi, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, Backlash: The Undeclared War Against American Women
Feminism's agenda is basic: It asks that women not be forced to 'choose' between public justice and private happiness.

Whoopi Goldberg, American actor
[quoted on the Today show] An actress can only play a woman. I'm an actor, I can play anything.

Simone de Beauvoir, French author, The Second Sex
One is not born a woman, one becomes one.

Nadia Boulanger, conductor
[on becoming the first woman to conduct the Boston Symphony Orchestra] I've been a woman for a little over 50 years and have gotten over my initial astonishment. As for conducting an orchestra, that's a job where I don't think sex plays much part.

Alchemist, thank you so much for posting the O'Donohue poem and slide show etc. He is a real favorite and it was sad that he died so young. Such a wealth of wisdom is contained in his writings. Unlike Edda, this is the first time that I have heard his voice. Again, thank you for posting it.

If one can experience the reality of being connected, it is on this website. All the posts of different souls working together to create something new ...

Alchemist,
your first post - the "bitte schon" - made me smile;
the second one - the video with John O´Donohue brought tears to my eyes.
(I am borrowing this statement from one of Thankful One´s posts; you did the same to him).

Edda

You are welcome. I am happy you enjoyed the pictures.

Imenuff

I am glad you had a chance to hear his voice and particularly reciting one of his works.

Juliana

I thought the "bitte schon" might amuse you. By the way, John O'Donohue learned German so he could do his PhD dissertation on Hegel. Ouch! Just thinking about that gives me a headache.

I am glad though that I was able to introduce him to you via one of his lovely works and the slideshow of some of his private moments.

Alchemist
