Here are a few of many quotes from Thoreau that resonate with me. It was especially meaningful for me several years ago to visit Walden Pond.

Friends... they cherish one another's hopes. They are kind to one another's dreams.

Goodness is the only investment that never fails.

I have learned, that if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.

I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away.

If we will be quiet and ready enough, we shall find compensation in every disappointment.

In wilderness is the preservation of the world.

Live the life you've dreamed.

Most men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with the song still in them.

Never look back unless you are planning to go that way.

Early Morning Blessing

Oh my Beloved Adonai
You are alive for me today.
Seeing the wind caress the branches
Of the trees
I am delivered by Your grace into the infinity of Your existence.

You are alive in me today.
I feel Your presence coursing through my body and
Burning my heart with a golden fire.
Your voice -- such sweet silent flames of raging love
That purify me in blissful splendor but do not consume me.

Oh My Beloved
Oh Ever Faithful One
Open my mouth so that my lips may declare Your praise now and always
Open my heart to Your Love now and forever.

Ronald Bedrick

Thank you, Alchemist. That´s beautiful. I keep feeling inspired by how the same truths can be expressed in so many different ways.

Juliana

I agree. Here is another.

Dear
God,
I
didn't think orange went with purple until I saw the sunset you made on Tuesday night.

That
was really cool.

This quote is "really cool", too. Thank you. I had always felt the same about pink and yellow, until I noticed how often it can be found together in flowers.

After yesterday's disastrous counselling session this really spoke to me today. Jude

Never apologize for showing feeling. When you do so, you apologize for the truth.

"If you can't have the first best thing, take the second best thing and make that the first best thing."

A very dear friend of mine, Charlie, said this.

It's quite eloquent in it's simplicity. A quiet recognition of what can and cannot be accomplished. And how neither one shows success or failure. Charlie reminded me that I may not always get what I want, but that I'll have, always, everything I'll ever need; and that sometimes it's important to recognize the difference.

"Unanswered Prayers" - Garth Brooks

Much love and many blessings,

Quarrel not at all. No man resolved to make the most of himself can spare time for personal contention.

Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any one thing.

I will prepare and one day my chance will come.

If I were two-faced, would I be wearing this one?

It has been my experience that folks with no vices have very few virtues.

It is difficult to make a man miserable while he feels worthy of himself and claims kindred to the great God who made him.

Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power.

Tact is the ability to describe others as they see themselves.

Whatever you are, be a good one.

Thankful one, I like the quote about loving by being able to accept. It is easier to give than to accept a gift. Gracious acceptance of a gift is a gift in itself to the one who gives it.

Thankful One, Jude and Arow, all of your quotes are worth musing on. I especially like the one about friends, who cherish one another´s hopes and are kind to one another´s dreams. It seems to me that this is what makes one of the differences between real friends and chance acquaintances.

Today these words resonate deeply with me:

"May your roots go down deep into the soil of God’s marvellous love. May you have the power to understand as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high and how deep God’s love really is.’" Ephesians 3:17-18

Although we will never be able "understand" that Love, we can become more and more aware of  it/Him/Her, by being mindful of what is given us day by day.

Thank you all for the quotes well worth reading. Arow, I especially like the words of "Unanswered Prayers." T.O. how true--Power is a real test of character. So often, when life circumstances change and situations reverse, the oppressed becomes the oppressor rather than one who works to relieve the oppression. Juliana, if any of us ever began to really understand your Ephesians quote, our competitiveness, need to impress others and need for the approval of others would cease. Psychologically, our supposed greatest needs are to be loved and to love to which Arow's post responds "we already have all that we need" and your quote from Ephesians validates. May all our roots continually go deeper into that soil of Love

I feel guided to post this here today. It is nearly always comforting to have something to help maintain perspective when the mind is occupied with worries.

10 Guidelines from God/ess

Effective Immediately, please be aware that there are changes YOU need to make in YOUR life. These changes need to be completed in order that I may fulfill My promises to you to grant you peace, joy and happiness in this life. I apologize for any inconvenience, but after all that I am doing, this seems very little to ask of you. Please, follow these 10 guidelines

1. QUIT WORRYING:

Life has dealt you a blow and all you do is sit and worry. Have you forgotten that I am here to take all your burdens and carry them for you? Or do you just enjoy fretting over every little thing that comes your way?

2. PUT IT ON THE LIST:

Something needs done or taken care of. Put it on the list. No, not YOUR list. Put it on MY to-do-list. Let ME be the one to take care of the problem. I can't help you until you turn it over to Me. And although My to-do-list is long, I am after all... God. I can take care of anything you put into My hands. In fact, if the truth were ever really known, I take care of a lot of things for you that you never even realize.

3. TRUST ME:

Once you've given your burdens to Me, quit trying to take them back. Trust in Me. Have the faith that I will take care of all your needs, your problems and your trials.
Problems with the kids? Put them on My list.
Problem with finances? Put it on My list.
Problems with your emotional roller coaster? For My sake, put it on My list. I want to help you. All you have to do is ask.

4. LEAVE IT ALONE:

Don't wake up one morning and say, "Well, I'm feeling much stronger now, I think I can handle it from here." Why do you think you are feeling stronger now? It's simple. You gave Me your burdens and I'm taking care of them. I also renew your strength and cover you in my peace. Don't you know that if I give you these problems back, you will be right back where you started? Leave them with Me and forget about them. Just let Me do my job.

5. TALK TO ME:

I want you to forget a lot of things. Forget what was making you crazy.Forget the worry and the fretting because you know I'm in control. But there's one thing I pray you never forget. Please, don't forget to talk to Me - OFTEN! I love YOU! I want to hear your voice. I want you to include Me in on the things going on in your life. I want to hear you talk about your friends and family. Prayer is simply you having a conversation with Me. I want to be your dearest friend.

6. HAVE FAITH:

I see a lot of things from up here that you can't see from where you are. Have faith in Me that I know what I'm doing. Trust Me; you wouldn't want the view from My eyes. I will continue to care for you, watch over you, and meet your needs. You only have to trust Me. Although I have a much bigger task than you, it seems as if you have so much trouble just doing your simple part. How hard can trust be?

7. SHARE:

You were taught to share when you were only two years old. When did you forget? That rule still applies. Share with those who are less fortunate than you. Share your joy with those who need encouragement. Share your laughter with those who haven't heard any in such a long time. Share your tears with those who have forgotten how to cry. Share your faith with those who have none.

8. BE PATIENT:

I managed to fix it so in just one lifetime you could have so many diverse experiences. You grow from a child to an adult, have children, change jobs many times, learn many trades, travel to so many places, meet thousands of people, and experience so much. How can you be so impatient then when it takes Me a little longer than you expect to handle something on My to-do-list? Trust in My timing, for My timing is perfect. Just because I created the entire universe in only six days, everyone thinks I should always rush, rush, rush.

9. BE KIND:

Be kind to others, for I love them just as much as I love you. They may not dress like you, or talk like you, or live the same way you do, but I still love you all. Please try to get along, for My sake. I created each of you different in some way. It would be too boring if you were all identical. Please, know I love each of your differences.

10. LOVE YOURSELF:

As much as I love you, how can you not love yourself? You were created by me for one reason only -- to be loved, and to love in return. I am a God of Love. Love Me. Love your neighbors. But also love yourself. It makes My heart ache when I see you so angry with yourself when things go wrong. You are very precious to me. Don't ever forget...

Thank you, Alchemist.

This, it seems to me, is something that has to be re-read and anew put into practice at regular intervals!

Thank you. I think these guidelines make a lot of sense and deserve to be re-read from time to time as reminders.

This is the five finger prayer.

1. Your thumb is nearest you. So begin your prayers by praying for those closest to you. They are the easiest to remember. To pray for our loved ones is, as C. S. Lewis once said, a "sweet duty."

2. The next finger is the pointing finger. Pray for those who teach, instruct and heal. This includes teachers, doctors, and ministers. They need support and wisdom in pointing others in the right direction. Keep them in your prayers.

3... The next finger is the tallest finger. It reminds us of our leaders. Pray for the president, leaders in business and industry, and administrators. These people shape our nation and guide public opinion. They need God's guidance.

4. The fourth finger is our ring finger. Surprising to many is the fact that this is our weakest finger, as any piano teacher will testify. It should remind us to pray for those who are weak, in trouble or in pain. They need your prayers day and night. You cannot pray too much for them.

5. And lastly comes our little finger - the smallest finger of all which is where we should place ourselves in relation to God and others. As the Bible says, "The least shall be the greatest among you." Your pinkie should remind you to pray for yourself. By the time you have prayed for the other four groups, your own needs will be put into proper perspective and you will be able to pray for yourself more effectively.

I was watching 'SuperNanny' this evening. I truly love this show; there's always a lesson I can learn about being human, how to treat others, or what it means to include 'fun' in mundane chores and the like.

Tonight, a very sing-song voiced mom (she had troubles asserting her right to authority as a parent - she was stuck in the 'get more bees with honey' mindset) stated:

"I'm strong; but sometimes I'm very weak"
(please forgive misquoting if I have, but the idea is there, i'm sure)

I began, immediately, analyzing her inflection. I perceived a tone that conveyed 'being stong' equates to an asset and that 'weak' is an expense to be avoided...

Now, not ten minutes later... I write...

How is it that 'strength' is an asset, anyway? I know a lot of 'strong people' that view themselves as worthless.

How is it that 'weak' is a liability, too? Some of the most independent people I've ever met are at their best only when depended upon and needed by other people.

It is our nature, our human nature, to be both weak and strong - it's part of the reason we all know, in our hearts, that we NEED each other!

It just feels good, when drifting to sleep, that always there is someone I will need and another person that will always need me. The person might change, but the need is absolute; I acquiesce to this.

"I'm strong, but sometimes I am very weak"....

I can't wait to say this to myself and not cringe.

Blessed be, gratefulness.org commrades and dear friends, (, you know who you are)

Much love,
