If you can imagine it, you can achieve it.  If you dream it, you can become it.

I don't know who wrote that, but I love it, because I know it to be true. Especially the "dream it" part. Many of my dreams, the realistic ones, have come true in my life. They include a loving husband, work I love and a chance to maybe make a difference in someone's life. Now, not all my dreams are realistic or altruistic-I would love to win the lottery and have the home of my dreams and it would be wonderful to write the great American novel, we all need a fantasy or two.

My dream for this year is that everyone have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Love ya'll, Lyla

Thank you! Yes, Lyla, there are dreams and then there are dreams. Some come true, others not, but sometimes we get something better than we dared to dream!

Wishing you a joyful season of surprises,
Love,  Edda

Dear Lyla
I love your insipiring quotes both by 2 of my favorite spirits.
I have so many favorite inspiring quotes but tonite surrounded
by words of Jesus at my Grandaughters Christian school is the following
"My Peace I Leave You." I also love how we each come to this place, learn,
share and believe in peace and all possibilities.

I love that quote - I haven't heard it before, but my spiritual teacher (on earth I mean ) taught me a very valuable thing when she said that ALL of our relationships are for the purpose of learning, even the difficult ones. (probably the difficult ones most of all, come to think of it)

We come together in order to teach each other. In other words, "There are no mistakes." and "There is no such thing as Coincidence."

Love Jude

Another thought I have trouble with is the belief that, on some level, we may have chosen all this painful stuff to happen to us.

When in the midst of it all I often say to myself, "why would I choose this??" But later, sometimes years later, I can see why. Or, if I didn't choose it, why it was chosen for me.

I'm just glad that there is so much help out there to help us understand. For instance, I can't begin to know how my Mother coped with her difficult life without any help at all.

As a born loner I have found it a complete revelation in recent years to be able to connect with others and also to help them. I do think introverts are often deep thinkers though.

Blessings, Jude

This is my all time favorite quote - and as a lifetime collector of quotes - it is quite a rarity. Since I have no personal experience of a life of ease, this quote always is a motivational concept.

The unendurable is the beginning of the curve of joy.

I am glad you like the quote. I am Beholding a blessed holiday season for you and all your loved ones. Thank you for lighting a candle. That is a very gracious gesture.

My moods run the gamut, though for some reason the more somber quotes seem to contain the most depth. So I like the quotes you posted but particularly the one from Elie Wiesel. It reminds me of another of my favorites:

The depth of our despair measures what capability and height of claim we have to hope.
~ Thomas Carlyle

Barbara

Thank you. You have touched upon the power inherent in the quotes, which is, they give words to the feelings we share and cannot express ourselves.

I am glad the quote meant so much.

Two of my favorite quotes I heard years ago in an AA meeting-

YOU CAN'T BE HATEFUL AND GRATEFUL AT THE SAME TIME and

I MUST HAVE AN ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE

One of the lasting things I have learned in my life is that gratitude is the easy road. When I am maintaining an attitude of gratitude, then I find I can learn more easily how to deal with what life hands me. When I am walking around, stirring up the you know what, I am in a negative space and am part of the problem instead of being part of the solution. Being part of the problem is like trying to swim upstream in river of molasses, being part of the solution is like swimming downstream in a clear, clean river. I guess it is a little like going with the flow. I just keep putting one foot in front of the other, doing the next right thing-and amazingly-life works out for the best.

Love ya'll, Lyla

Dreams like fantasies may become true, reified, made Real - "to be" is "to do" & to do IS...in posse (the seed, possibility) -> in esse (Essence)..the goal is to actualize, realize, what's asleep, what's latent - to awaken, become conscientised, 'an awakening of consciousness' - to give birth, becoming fulfilled (Integrity versus Despair), before dying...

Thanks to everyone for their quotes. I have one to share with you, too:

" We dream of doing great things, when all the time we are called to brighten one little spot."
(Author unknown)

I am grateful for all quotes which show how much we can do if we only put all our love and energy into our everday chores, however humble they may appear to be.

Thank you Juliana. Your quotes remind me of the saying, something like, "Why go to the Himalayas to find the meaning of life when it was inside your heart all the time."

There's another story which I can't remember fully, but it ends by saying that "the treasure was put inside man's heart because that would be the last place he would look." Can anyone reproduce it for me?

Jude

Jude, I've seen that in one of Peter McWilliams books. And a couple of others too. I'll have a look and see if I can find them.

[EDIT] Is this the one?

While you (most of you on the other side of the Atlantic) are sleeping soundly, I hope, I am starting my day gratefully meditating on your posts. Thank you Jude, Barbara and Solomon.
let me comment on number 4 of your quote., which I find particularly important. When visiting friends in the USA as well as when meeting people from your country over here, I have always been struck by the ease and the frequency with which they utter these words. An American friend, who had just complained about her husband saying that she didn´t love him any more, amazed me by ending her telephone conversation with him by saying "I love you"! In German, we hardly ever use these words, especially with the people closest to us. This is one of the most conspicuous cultural differences which I have noticed.
